Richard is a really smart guy. He has some great insight into what makes music special. Really enjoyed listening to him, his experiences growing up. Makes me want to practice more. Hope to see him make more great music.
This guys put some thought into what he wanted! Really smart customizing on this guitar. Not sure the look is for me, but the sound is undeniably great.
I agree with your assessments of sound and the looks. In case you don't know, Mr. Fortis was classically trained as a guitarist. He's very technically saavy. I've seen interviews with him and he's always speaking in these terms. His amp collection alone is mind boggling.
People we are perhaps seeing one of the the most Brilliant guitar players of our time. Richard is writing his own story on Rock n Roll and leaving his mark well known. Yeah he ended up in one of the greatest already made bands of all time but I'm seriously starting to think he is from another planet.
Can never understand when building a guitar from scratch why you'd want to live with compromises. For example, Leo Fender used string trees so he could make a guitar (cheaper) by using a thin piece of wood for the neck to save money. Had he wanted to spend extra, the headstock angle would have been tilted back (like Gibson) to avoid using string trees. So why when building something from scratch would you want to emulate that budget method? I see Fortus also uses only three bridge saddles instead of 6. This is odd, especially when even George Fullerton said that the early 3 saddle design was impossible to intonate because it was a compromise, yet here we see Fortus using just 3 saddles. I also note that the pole pieces on the pickups are way off (especially on the top e-string) It also only has 21 frets and no access to the trust rod! He has a couple of interesting ideas, but for an expensive custom built guitar, he keeps all the "vintage" budget shortcomings. But as long as he's happy! 😬
Jesus christ he is a humble guy talking about complementing Slash, and about Slash being a legend! I agree, Slash is a real rock n roll legend no doubt, but talking about the level of guitar skills and being a complete guitarist, I would put Fortus far superior to Slash. But thats just my opinion :)
If you haven’t heard Richards work as guitarist and co-composer on the two Love Spit Love Records with Richard Butler (of the Psychedelic Furs) check it out. It was an entirely different sound than what he does with Guns and Roses. I saw him on tour supporting both LSL records and he was flat out awesome. Someone needs to bring those records back in print.
My ears say thank you !
It really does do the tele thing well. Richard seems like a good guy and he is a great player. Thanks for posting this.

AGREED! THIS GUY IS FAR MORE SUPERIOR IN TECHNIQUE.
I guess he's not with Gretsch anymore.
Believe he's with quite a few at the same time. Would be an interesting bit of research!
@@HeartbreakerGuitars Yes it would. Good point.
