Runcorn Town Centre is a dump, it's been left to rot by the council, every vacant shop filled with some kinda fast food outlet. There's a few little gems dotted about which are being let down by their surroundings. You look at Stockton Heath centre, not too different in size yet full of nice little shops, pubs and eateries.
I walked on top of the canal from Castlefields to Windmill Hill in 82 when the big freeze was on, i also used to canoe to Warrington on it, with Castlefields youth centre in 83' & also swim down in from the barge to home just by Astmoor Bridge, as with everything in life Runcorn is what you make it.
I grew up in Runcorn but I now live in Liverpool. It’s such a shame the way the town has gone now. I was there recently and it’s a shadow of it’s former self. Runcorn is so deprived and needs real investment. The Old Town needs to be made over and the shopping city should be knocked down made into a new shopping centre. I hope Runcorn sees brighter days.
I am optimistic about it all. But the council that have shown interest is the same council that has since built yet another housing estate where the marina would have been

Excellent video and interesting history. Just moved into Murdishaw, Runcorn less than 2 minutes from canal and Preston Brook Marina.
Ha ha ha. Just noticed me & my Daughter walking along the canal bank!
Thanks for posting 👍

Is there any news on if the canal has any plans to re open?
The future is by trying to recreate the past...
