The fact all these players have been around for years shows how very little choice there is now for 4K players. The big electronics manufacturers have either stopped making them completely or stopped introducing new models.
I’ve owned a Panasonic DP-UB820 combined with an LG OLED and a Ymaha and Soavo 7.1 HT for a couple of years now, amazing sound and picture quality is superb!
@KaleI311superman9 I feel you, often if I can't view a movie on a streamer I'll buy bootleg copy and if I like it I'll buy whatever physical medium choice available be it a DVD, Blu-ray, and/or 4k Blu-ray. There were some cases I had no choice but to get regular DVDs but I found them still enjoyable. 👍
Good to se the Panasoic DP-UB820 in top slot. Yes i would like a 9000 but they are way overpriced and the difference in picture quality is not that much.
I've got the Sony 700 - plays. SACD so that's that. even thou I'd guess my ability to notice any difference in the sound is - zero SACD v. standard. Only thing I'd change - It should have ' basic' play controls to back up remote, I've never found remotes reliable.

4k blu ray is like laserdisc all over again, pretty niche in the market as was laserdisc with vhs. Quality beats streaming same as LD looked way better than beta max/vhs. I would like for it to stick around for as long as LD did. If authored correctly, 4kuhd is reference material as 35mm film is like 4k-6k res. IMAX 70mm is the holy grail though at like 18k res equiv. Nolan’s movies look amazing on 4kuhd because of all the imax footage. It does seem kinda retro to be into disc players in ‘23, I dig it though.
My Panasonic UB9000 has been extremely glitchy out of the box and has already been sent in for service after only 8 months. It is still glitchy after "repair"
The best one is mid-range? Nothing else can compete at such an affordable price? It's still $400 or something while all of the others other than the #2 can be gotten for $250 or less. Granted, this one seems to be the best one for playing the triple layer discs and has the HDR optimizer... which is mainly useful for the TV's that can't reach high luminance levels. It's kinda sad that the best 4K blu-ray players are already 3-4+ years old. Heck, anything that was released in the past year or so that can compete is extremely expensive. Just like the big daddy version of the #1 here, they are only useful for an extremely niche market that can use those features... and 4K blu-ray is already a very niche market to begin with.
The AVS Forum guys were clear... since the long time reference player Oppo something or other, which costed at least $1500 and up for the high end home theater guys isn't around any more that #2 Panasonic was the new reference level player. The #1 UB-820 has the same picture and audio quality but without the all metal case and lots of features most people would never use, and it was $500 instead of $1,100. The prices have dropped a bit. That's why I bought the 820. Only home theater people are buying discs now as more people stream. The market is realigning. I have home theater and live in rural area with crap DSL, so I want disc when my crappy Internet goes out.
Panasonic has good colors, but the picture isn't sharp as ps5.... I don't know why... but, all dedicated 4k blu ray players have good colors, but not as sharp of a picture as ps5... so weird
@@mustafahussain3972 I don't have to Sony one, but did a lot of research and generally the difference between 4K movies that have Dolby Vision there's pretty much no difference. The main advantages of the UB820 lie elsewhere: > More stable for playing triple layer 4K blu-rays. The non-Panasonic players often tend to have issues with them (but not always and not for everyone) and there are still people who do have issues with them even with the Panasonic players. > Best at upscaling DVD's and regular Blu-rays > Has an HDR optimizer for movies that don't have Dolby Vision. Granted, it's sorta redundant if you do have a TV that's capable of very high brightness like 1500+ nits. Personally, I went with the Panasonic one. It was €200 more expensive, but I didn't want to end up with a 4K blu-ray player that wasn't able to play some of the movies I bought.

Yes blu-ray came out in 2006 and 4k blu-ray came out in ,I think, 2016. Physical media is the best. You own your discs. Also streaming and physical media can live side by side. We should have the choice.@jenvogue5005

If you can't hear a difference between CD and SACD, you must have a very mediocre stereo system.
