If my dad was a professional hitman, I'd always put out the trash on time.
Always.

having family as a hitman creates a weakness, therefore no hitman would willingly make family.
If my dad was Brian Milles I'd never go to Paris.
Joey Cusack's brother should have just let Joey live his life as Tom. He ended up losing his life because he couldn't just let his brother live a normal peaceful life.
I could not agree more, especially being a close family member. However, had his brother not initiated the move, we wouldn't have had the movie :)
It goes deeper than that. Both in the comic and well, actual real life, bouncing out of any organized crime especially after pulling the things that he did, which I wont get into here as its more or less in the comic than the movie wouldn't leave his "family" much of a choice. You can't demand retribution when you don't know where the person is at. Once he was found, other figures within the organized crime world would demand THEY, meaning the family Joey was connected to do something to "fix" or payback what was done before Joey left or there would be consequences for this particular "Family" On the flip-side, the head of that Irish Family being his own brother couldn't let him stay alive for the past transgressions or it would make his family look "weak" as well. Its just a huge minefield all these people need to navigate over the actions of one man.
Its not unheard of family members killing their own blood on orders OR to stem a war.
@@JaymeSplendid Huh, so it's an adaption of a comic? That makes a lot of sense as to why his family still lives. In an original Hollywood script one of the kids and/or wife would've died.
You guys watch the movie there were consequences to the brother if he let Tom live there’s a reason why he kept himself hidden all these years cause he was wanted by the mob
Hello Kevin please tell me why did you write this comment?
I forgot how amazing this film is. Viggo Mortensen is such an underrated actor man

"I learned it from watching you, Daf!".
Jack the son said this: "No in this family we shoot them."
Jack shoots mobster thus saves Tom/Joey.
Jack the son was not a hypocrite, unlike his dad Tom/Joey.
This is a truly great film, very unexpected when first seen and don't know the plot. Very, very underrated. Awesome!
Indeed. That's how i stumbled upon it. Back when I use to pirate movies via torrents, i gave a shrug and downloaded it. Quite the unexpected gem.
I've seen this movie about 3 times already. I think it came out around 2005. Just like a fine wine ; it gets better with age.
FUN FACT! The guy that plays the crazy serial killer Billy (Greg Bryk) is also the actor and character model for Farcry 5's main antagonist Joseph Seed. This is such an underrated movie by the way
I knew I recognised him from somewhere
Looks just like him
oh that's why he looks familiar...

Is that you Dhar Mann?
I read the comic this is based on. It is really good. Then I heard that Cronenberg turned it into a movie and it was a perfect fit. The comic has a heavy body-horror moment in it that was simply MADE for Cronenberg (the king of body-horror)... then I watched the film and they actually removed that whole part of the plot. Really weird. But I'm not complaining. Instead , Cronenberg went way deeper with the psychological element of it all. It's a brilliant film.
Oooohhhhhh, theres a comic?
I'll have to check out the comic. This movie and another Cronenberg- Mortenson pairing, Eastern Promises are incredible.
Is it the moment in the diner when the thug's face is half shot off? That was in certain versions....
If eddie thought that was bad just imagine how she'd react when she finds out that tom isn't joey but royalty in a distant fairy tail land.
SARAH screams after having a nightmare..
"His father" and "his brother"

Once a man leaves a way of life. You never eant to bring him back in... expetially if his family, the only thing at this point in his life he cares about, is on the line. He will make you see the errors of your ways from the business end of a gun.
No lies detected!! As the age old saying goes: don't start none, won't be none.
I just turned 30, but get mistaken for 22-24 all the time. When someone asks my secret to youthful looks, I tell them it's a simple 4-step process:
1. Drink water.
2. Moisturize.
3. I leave folk alone.*
4. I MIND MY GODDAMN BUSINESS!!**
*It's simple really: unbothered people don't bother people.
** This is is perhaps the easiest thing in the world to do. It baffles how many people take this simple task more difficult than necessary. I mind the business that pays me, and don't get stressed about what the next is/isn't doing. That's time, energy & resources that could be devoted to bettering myself. By doing that I cheat myself out the best possible life I could be living. And I've done enough of that, so now I owe myself plus interest.
Yup like John wick 😂 they should have just left my man’s alone but nah they always gotta start something
Im not normally a grammar or spelling corrector, but its "especially"
i support this dad, in case this film was real.
Is it based on a true story?
@@MA-ug2ox no
Seriously this is a cult classic! Smfh
No this was all real Ten could you not see that it was all happening "live"?
It’s based off a graphic novel from DC comics (Yk Batman and Superman and all)
"Why don't you ask Tom how come he's so good at killing people?". A classic line if ever there was one.
Love this movie. You never know what a man was before
Dont get it. Bullies get physical on your son, and he punishes his son? My dad told me he would keep buying me as many lunchboxes as I need because I kept denting them after getting into 3 fights with three morons who thought that physically hitting me ment I wasnt going to use my lunchbox on them.
I mean, a previously extremely violent but repentant man who wishes to keep his family as far away from that violence as possible tries to enforce nonviolent behavior with his son?
@@MyLiverismyEnemy Indeed. A man with a history of violence might well be terrified that his son might follow in his footsteps.
You watch Andrew Tate videos too huh
@The_Chambers Hahaha I was wondering if anyone else noticed 🤣
Probably because he didn’t want to draw any attention to the family
Remind anyone of John Wick? When a man walks away you better let him stay free or suffer the wrath of the woken beast.
The computer really messed up several words! It's actually made me laugh.
Some people just can't leave well enough alone.
This is one of those hidden gems. I don't think it got much promotion, but when i gave a shrug and decided to watch, i was happy.
@8:05 - as the dad I would have been like "yes, preferably when no one is looking!" or "we don't hit people in public, we take them, torture, and kill them like Dexter", then son be like "who's Dexter", father - "oh snap there I go breaking the 4th wall again..."🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Joey Cusack also had another brother, John Cusack. John Cusack saved a lot of lifes on an Ark by getting the hydraulic unstuck.
Lmao that's Joan Cussack the other brother 😂
John Wick - What if...? (John managed to have a family, similar to "no body" but different.).

@@jordanhopkins2635 like all things in life, tranquility must operate under the rule of polarity.
Come & go. Give & take. Up & down. Yin & Yang.
I'll admit, some days are more difficult to keep my tranquil state than others.
I find it much harder for outside influences to disturb my peace. Conversely, (there's that polarity again) should I temporarily be disturbed I find it much easier to center myself and still the waters that trouble me.
Thank you for your words of encouragement.
Peace & Prosperity to you. 💜
Tranquility in this world is very hard to keep at a stable level but once you understand the balance of peace and destruction you tend to find your balance of both when necessary . my yin and yang ☯️🙏🏾 like the old saying goes gotta keep on keeping on. Good or bad everything works out in the great spirits vision .
@@JujuToobootie unfortunately not everyone has that balance within their waters and their peace is easily disturbed with the slightest movement of negativity. Hope most people can find that calm resolution in do time like us but who know what the future holds . Ya know
@@jordanhopkins2635 THIS!! A thousand times.
If we could all find the tranquility within ourselves, perhaps "destruction" could be a thing of the past.
Although I will say there's an inherant beauty in destruction. After something is destroyed, there lies a blank canvas for us to create whatever it is we see fit. Endless possibilities.
Plus we couldn't really do away with one without disposing of the other.
We have to have both in order to begin to understand both things in their entirety. Without the possibility of destruction, beauty would begin to lose its luster. And without the hope to create something better in the wake of destruction we'd be trapped in an endless cycle of despair.
I always tell people that I don't think we should fear the darkness. Because in the dark is where Light shines the brightest.
The kid also gave him a plate to eat dinner in the very end

Had this movie on dvd watch it faithfully
Living in a small town/rural area where people tend to be armed (any police are 30 minutes away) if a group of mobsters showed up it would more than likely end up like Coffeeville with the Dalton Gang or the small town in Minnesota that completely shot up the James Gang.
i have never heard of this movie so thanks for the recap. This is in my list of must watches. thanks
Great movie. Great director great actors. Underrated and almost as good as it could be. Eastern Promises is also great.
