FAQ:
1. Why did we make it?
We built it for fun, the original thoughts when this project started was just because we want to have an ideal laptop that we can use for ourselves; upgradable, repairable; these models are known for its high repairability rate and its parts are cheap, so they're easy to maintain for everyday use for a repair shop like us. We also create it just to test our soldering skills and manufacturing precision.
2. Can I edit 4K after upgrading to NVMe SSD?
The short answer is NO, it requires a lot of criteria for a machine to be able to edit 4K(CPU single thread performance, GPU performance, Disk speed, etc.) Adding NVMe drive only improve the Read/Write speed of files into and out of the Mac, but not adding RAW processing power.
3. So why bother upgrading it to NVMe and all these hassles?
What we are showing here proves that these methods of extracting PCIe lanes are possible, and we can apply the same concept to all newer expensive and sophisticated Macs. Would you start this project with a 2000USD Machine? of course not. And it's really interesting to see what these old machines can still do after upgrading it with new hardwares.
4. Will this modification beats the M1 Macs?
Yes, and no. Depends on your perspective. Overall performance - in some areas yes, but overall of course not. Longevity and maintenance - nailed it!
Stay tuned for more interesting projects for your Mac! Hope you guys enjoyed this video, and thanks for watching!

Not only do you get NVMe to work, but you also get 3 SSD's to work on a computer that doesn't even come with one stock. Amazing work!
Membanggakan 🇲🇾 Malaysia sungguh lah korang ni.... boleh Boot dari NVME lagi tu
Terima kasih banyak tuan
@@iBoffRCC mcmana nk contact korg? Kedai di mana ye? Berminat nak send for upgrade!
Menunggu iBoff RCC buka cabang di Indonesia (Surabaya/Jogjakarta) 😊
Awesome mod guys! Truly epic to see these kinds of things happening, especially on the other side of the world! My uttermost respect. I was wondering if this mod removes DisplayPort capabilities too, or does it only affect the Thunderbolt interface?
You can see at 8:39, the miniDP still works, only Thunderbolt functions are gone. Thanks for watching!
Jadi logikanya pada laptop lainnya pun bisa dilakukan cara yang sama untuk mendapatkan fitur tambahan dengan mod semacam ini ya?
Keren kalian, baru ketemu channel kaya gini.
Jaya selalu iBoff!!!
ya betul, jika laptop tersebut ada firmware support dengan NVMe drive, cara yang sama boleh dilakukan.
Terima kasih! Salam serumpun.
@@iBoffRCC mau dong di modif seperti itu
Hey there Boff, I was wondering if you still have a couple of those kits available? I would like to purchase one if possible? Your site is either partially broken or it could be just me but I do want to purchase your kit that you demonstrate here in this video for my 13 inch macbook pro.
If there's a reason why you can't I understand and I won't hold it against you man, you're awesome either way with these cool hardware mods. :)
I'm looking for them too :) @iBoffRCC
Great video may I ask a question if I buy an NVMe to SATA adapter is the Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD will be compatible with my MacBook pro mid 2012 ?
It's heroic mod.
How did he get a hold of the motherboard schematic?
can you just put a raid 5 nvme?
Nice upgrade
How much would it cost for me to get my 2012 Macbook Pro 13-inch modified by you?
I would like the NVMe port, a gpu upgrade, a CPU upgrade, and to be able to put in 32 GB of RAM.
hi, unfortunately, for this model is only able max 16GB and install the NVMe mod by us
@@iBoffRCC thank you for responding. which model is the best model to modify for the best upgrades?
HI. I have the same macbook model, I use it to edit videos in full HD format. I make some videos with my iphone xs max. unfortunately in many cases it goes jerky, it is not fluid. my pc is equipped with a 250gb ssd and 4 gb ram and ventura OS. Can I solve something with this modification or do I have to change the graphics card? what do you suggest me? Thank you
Whats the max ssd that can go in that macbook pro? I see that there are two sata ssds, can we not use the sata startech raid adapter that fits the m.2 so that there are 2ssd in one sata and 2 in another and another m.2 totalling up to 5 ssds. Would it work or would it just kill the mac let me know please.
Pero si jala a la velocidad de los nvme ?
Update , After looking at the board again , i wonder if i could trim it down slightly to fit above the Sata SSD while keeping the Disc Drive intact
Makes me wonder if this or something similar on the mid-2012 15” MacBook Pro
This works with MacBook pro retina 15" mid 2012?
@@Lugo_Fraga_Moraes unfortunately not
Salam boss. Ada buat servis upgrade camni ke? Ada MBP mid-2012 non-Retina ni hehe
Wassalam ada saja tuan
I wonder why it only has a 16GB limit for RAM
Por el procesador y porque es ddr3
Hi, regarding the A1286, when doing this modification (NevBolt2), is the dGpu (nvidia) disabled?
Soooooo I have a question and an idea , I’m currently looking to upgrade a nice 2012 MacBook Pro with a BlueRay Drive for a use with a Film collection , but I also wanna connect up a Nvme Drive to run the OS on due to speed and use a regular SSD for general storage
So hears my Question is it possible to have Both ? Connect up thinner board with the Nvme Drive but still have a room to keep a BluRay Drive ? Possibly tucked away on the board in a nook ?:3
Honestly that would be completely ideal , but I’m not knowledgeable enough to know how to do that yet xD
Hey ho, I build my both MacBooks Pro 13“ mid2012 and MacBook Pro 17“ (!) whit
16GB RAM
1TB SSD (SATA)
BluRay (Panasonic UJ267)
and the „normal“ Speed and Works on the MacBooks are really fast enough for this old hardware.
Monterey and BluRays runs great, so you don’t need this M2.nvme-Mod.
This is some deep shit. I’d love to be able to do this to my laptop.
could it be possible to just upgrade it to thunderbolt 3??
I WANT TO UPGRADE A MOD. I want 2017 or 2015 macbook pro i7 logic board install in 2012 macbook pro with 32 gb ram ddr4 one nvme slot and 2 sata ssd slots and gpu upgrade. how much will be the cost?
please tell me the name of background music please
For sale to market place Shoope link? Please
brilliant👍
Crazy worker
Would replacing the thunderbolt 2 chip with Mac mini also? I know they already have nvme available but on the 2014 it’s quite slow.
for mac mini 2014, the thunderbolt chip is responsible for external display via mini DP ports. I dont know if thats really worth to do or not.
What about the 2015 MacBook Pro i7 16 gb ram can it be possible to make it up to 32? Go 🤔
thats what we are trying hard but no avail. there is a good explanation to that, and hopefully we can make video about it one day
Now combine this with dosdude1's quad core i7 CPU upgrade and you've got yourself the world's fastest A1278!
I just saw your comment and i tought the exact same thing thats funnyy haha i have like 4 MBPs and and i willndo both projects on 2 of them and see what happend from there
You have Catalina on it too? Dayum
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thats a super computer.
this is nuts
What can be done for the 2011 17 inch model that has the dreaded gpu issue . Does it solve that problem ?
you can either disable the gpu using software, or use an x-gpu to get pcie slot out and disable the gpu that way
Nvme cannot install MBR. Can windows solve this problem
replace NVMe what is performance and maxspeed this read nvme right? or must custom coding
it can reach 2500write, 2900read depends on SSD brand and size
Could you also put a video card in that PCIe slot?
yea, check the channel they have done it.
Doesn't it only support SATA III ?
Great mod guys
Amazing job!
Thank you! and thank you for purchasing one! :)
la kalamita sul cacciavite e top
Can a PCIE connector be place on this kit? like the X-GPU project?
yes it can, but for now we will only releasing the DB Board without the X-GPU port(PCIe x4). we still need to add small details to the final revision.
they should make a modification for the macbook air 2008 so the ssd is updated and not the zif leg that it has
Where can i get the mc OS? What is the recomended OS if i only upgrade the ram (16gb) and change the hard drive to sata ssd?
Bisa saya dapat contact dan harganya?
waste money intel i5 A1278 MacBook Pro not cappable to handle 8000mb read/write speed of memory it's maximum 3000mb/s so be aware.and dont waste money..
lmao
8 gb/s only for PCIE 4.0
Это на каком языке? Вроде Инглиш, но хуже акцента не придумать.
What a waste of a 970 Evo
