Kuddos to Ashton for officiating the competition & coaching you both through the events. Loved the video. I think the high jump & pole vault were the most impressive, and the javelin was the most entertaining.
I remember watching Ashton’s London Olympic performance and just being awed. Truly one of the greatest athletes of all time, and measurably so in his case!
please please please can we have more Ashton eaton on the channel, such a nice positive guy. showing those highlights of him back in the day he was an absolute beast in all events, kudos to him
The title "Greatest athlete on earth" was first given to Jim Thorpe at the Stockholm Olympics 1912. When Thorpe received his gold medal in the Decathlon the medal was handed to him by Swedish king Gustaf V. He told Thorpe "You Sir are the greatest athlete on earth" and that's when the saying was made.
That was great Nick. I was a decathlete in jr college. Your pole vault was great for just recently picking it up. Tom’s javelin was by far the most impressive considering he’s never thrown before. Your 1500 was definitely very respectful along with your 400. Great video👍
If you die tonight, do you know where you're going? Did you know that Jesus Christ is THE only way to Heaven and He loves you? Through Him, God offers you a FREE gift - forgiveness. All you need to do is repent, turn away from your sins and evil ways, from now on put your faith completely in Jesus Christ and be obedient to Him. Biblical explanation of the Gospel: God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go there. (Matthew 12:30) ''Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.'' He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteouss, but rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). God gave us free will and since Adam sinned in the garden, sin is the nature of our flesh and we ALL have sinned. (Romans 3:23) The law demands death to those who sin (Romans 6:23). For someone to be justified before holy God they have to be sinless, that's why everyone need Jesus Christ for He lived a sinless life. None of us are good in God’s eyes, because for God good means moral perfection. We all have broken God’s commandments, we all have sinned in our lives so none of us are good. ‘’For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.’’ (James 2:10). Good News is that Jesus Christ lived a perfect, holy, sinless life, Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried and He was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’’ (John 3:16) We aren’t saved based on our good deeds/works, but only by the grace of God through faith. ''For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Jesus said ‘’it is finished’’ (John 19:30) just before He died on the cross, which means He paid the fine for our sins (past, present, future) to be forgiven if we repent and trust in Him. ''What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!'' (Romans 6:15) ''Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out'' (Acts 3:19) Repentance is a turning away from sin and all evil works, and it always results in changed behavior (Luke 3:8). Biblically, a person who repents does not continue willfully in sin. While sorrow from sin is not equivalent to repentance, it is certainly an element of scriptural repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Do not play a hypocrite. ''God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.'' (1 John 1:5-6) If you have repented and have genuine faith in Jesus Christ then you will receive the gift of Holy Spirit and be born-again spiritually. (John 3:3) Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession - to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14) You are born again with the Spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36) ''You will know them by their fruits'' (Matthew 7) If you have been truly born-again with the Holy Spirit and He has regenerated your heart, you will desire righteousness - to do what is good and righteous in God's eyes, to seek God everyday in His Word and prayer, to strengthen your relationship with God. You will no longer desire to willfully continue living in sin but will want to obey God out of your love for Him because of His amazing grace revealed to us through the death and resurrection of His Son. ''Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'' (2 Corinthians 5:17) ''For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.'' (Eph 2:10) You will have a testimony - of what your life had been before and how has it changed now when you have surrendered it to Lord Jesus Christ. As a declaration and affirmation of your faith in Jesus Christ, get baptised in water because He commanded us to do so. In John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.'' ''Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit'' (Matthew 28:19) ''Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.'' (Acts 2:41) ''And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God - through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,'' (1 Peter 3:21) ''We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.'' (Romans 6:4) ''Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.'' (Colossians 2:12) Please get right with God and start your relationship with Jesus Christ today before it’s too late, because there’s not much time left! "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.’’ (Mark 13:32) Get to know Christ through God's Word - Bible. At first I recommend reading Gospel of John and book of Romans. God bless you! Jeremiah 29:13 - ''You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.''
Big surprise of captain Tom winning the decathlon. The javelin throw was first class! We want to see more of him! How much can he deadlift? My guess is about 500 pounds or more.
@@ari7gam77 put some respect on Tom's speed too; running 12 seconds for 100m and 60 seconds for 400m is impressive , especially considering he probably weighs over 220 lbs
@@Netsfan24 yes... impressive... being a decathlete myself, in a former life and now a masters, that is amazing . 400m, 100m, the javelin, shot, high jump and pole vault, all incredible .... disc, long jump, 1500m, hurdles... not so much! haha great show though!!!
The decathlon is a true test of overall athletic skill, with ten events judging everything from short sprints to discus. I love your channel Nick, and I hope that you continue to lighten up my day! :) Oh, and can you come to the east coast? I want to run with you
Everyone, I hope you never forget the memories that you have made in the past year. We are already almost half way through 2022, and no matter what happens in your life, I want you know that there is always someone out there who wants you. U R Loved, never forget that. 🥰
This really makes you appreciate how incredible world class times/distances/heights are when two very fit men don't even come close. Love the channel Nick !
Ashton Eaton, is such a legend. And Tom performed really well. He's using more range of motion, using his hips and his full body on his throws. 5:37 for 1500m is actually VERY fast. Thanks again Bison for putting this together. really enjoyed it!!
Thanks for the awesome video Nick! and having Tom as your opponent for such a video was the best decision.. He really is an amazing all around athlete and for him to do this in his 40's is even more impressive
I started track this season, I’m a freshman. I throw and do pole vault. I throw 81’ at discus and 39’ 10” is shot put. I jumped 11’ 6” this season in pole vault. I went to my state qualifiers this season for pole vault was ranked 10th and took 6th.
Train hard! If you really like those events stick with them and excel, but don't be afraid to try other events as well. I started my Freshman year running the 200 and 400 and doing long jump. I randomly tried hurdles my sophomore year and found out I was a natural at it. I turned into my team's "swiss army knife" and gave my coach a lot of options for matchups depending on which team we were going against. Plus, all track and field events are really fun to do! Don't ever stop doing pole vault though. That is so damn fun to do!
Nick's hurdles and long jump are hilarious 😂. Captain Tom's javelin was amazing. And I love Ashton Eaton always saying how good you guys are doing. He seems like such a great guy
That was so much fun to watch!!! Man!, Tom is a great all round athlete! I liked watching you two compete. So nice to see Ashton Eaton again. He was a true beast during his career and we were so privileged to see him dominate Thanks for the video Nick!
I was already a fan of Ashton but, now after seeing how encouraging, kind, and enthusiastic he is, I'm twice as much a fan! I think it would be a lot of fun to try a decathlon!
Damn man, I want you and the Cap'n to train a full year on decathlon and see where y'all get. Absolutely epic. And Ashton is such a great person and coach, amazing energy, support, and personality.
Captain Tom = The Ultimate Everyday Badass!! I ran track at a high-level and the fact that at his age he is putting together 60sec 400s and a 6min mi (equivalent) during a 10 event day is ridiculous.
So did I and Im having a hard time believing that they did this in 1 day and survived. but i guess thats where youth comes in. I do masters track now, as a 60 year old , and specialize in the sprints and vault..... but man, that would be brutal if you had to do all 10 in a day.
Bro you and your videos are such a blessing to this world. With so many things going on in our world these days, it feels great to finish out my day watching a new video! So sick you got Ashton in a video!! Some of my favorite olympians!
Hey Nick!! I love your videos and I wanted to let you know that you have inspired me as a young teenager to stay fit and live life to the fullest running track and cross country. I live in Oregon and have watched your vids for a couple years. Keep up the good work, you're inspiring a lot of young athletes. My PR an the 3k improved by 9 minutes because of your amazing inspiration
I was so excited when I saw that Ashton Eaton was in the video. He’s literally one of my favourite athletes and he’s no longer in the public eye much anymore since he retired so it’s cool to finally se him again. Especially in a head to head style RUclips video like this.
My 18 year old HS Senior just did his first Decathlon over Father's Day weekend and managed 3956 points with HS level throwing weights and hurdles. He was representing the 800m crew as well. Loved watching you two do it.
As a masters decathlete this was so much fun to watch. I love that you had Ashton Eaton guiding you. My hat goes off to the Captain Tom for an impressive performance!!
Its so cool to see ashton talk about the decatholn as a junior natonal decathlete its so amazing to see people do thigs like this and endure the pain us decathletes do
WOW!!! THIS WAS GREAT!! YOU ALL have inspired me to get off my arse, and get with it! Starting now,,,, full fledged get back in shape time... I use to be a pretty good athlete... now at my age, I want to be "pretty ok" again!! TY guys!
The greatest event it Track and Field! Finally! I've been waiting for this video for years. And it features Ashton Eaton, the greatest athlete ever! Ashton seems like a super cool guy. Seeing him get genuinely excited when Nick or Tom did well in an event was great.
This was a joy to watch. Nick you're doing such an incredible job marketing track and field. That being said, I now know I can throw a javelin better than an Olympian :D
It’s funny.. I went in to the urgent care today and met Tom, I had an injury related to track and he said he had just done some track stuff recently… I asked and he said it was with Nick symmonds so here I am watching the video 😂😂
Wow this was without a doubt my favorite video you've made. Always wanted to see you try a dec and to have america's greatest athlete Ashton Eaton in it made this whole video 100x better. Good stuff Nick and congrats to Captain Tom
Yo, you guys finally did my event. I'm 20 years old, and I compete in Australia. My best in the Decathlon is 6702, and that was my first decathlon using open specifications. So glad you guys are trying it out! I'll have to race you guys if you come to australia
Matt Brody, from one 5’10” white guy to another, you’re a complete badass, bro. You had TERRIBLE genetics for the 800. That’s a compliment, of course. You got where you got from sheer toughness, dedication, and attitude. What you did in the 2012 Olympics was superhuman. Those guys at the front had 300% better genetics (for running) and you were only a second behind the world record. Watching the first 200 meters, it’s like oh shit, you’re going to get embarrassed. Those Africans have legs that are six inches longer while having less upper body mass to carry!! They run like gazelles compared to guys like us. But you reminded three guys - with far less heart - at the end that it ain’t over til it’s over. They quit at 798 meters in an 800 meter race.
One of your best vids yet Nick! So fun to watch. You have to try to get Ashton to do a Dec with you now. Even out of his top shape, it would be fun to see the numbers he can throw together. And see if you can improve yours!
Hey Nick great vid! You should make a video on your second channel about all the sub 4 high schoolers this past week, it’s incredible! (There’s like 4 of them!)
I met you and Aston back in 2015 at the ATC classic @ Emory in Atlanta . You two were total class acts & great athletes! Anyways Nick I was thinking of a challenge video for you. Trying doing the 100,000 steps challenge in one day.
The story of this video is Captain Tom. Holy crap. Age 42 and just rolls over a former Olympian. I had no idea how talented this guy was. How did he get so good at everything? Probably a scratch golfer.
Tom is one of those good all rounders, you get quite a few of them. Whereas nick was elite at one thing and trained to the detriment of all other things, you don’t get many of those hence why he’s a two tie Olympian. Best way to train for 99% of people is the all rounder approach and Tom is a seriously fit/strong dude especially as he’s not a spring chicken.
@@johnhalliday719 actually nick is just as well-rounded, he scored almost a perfect score 598/600 on the ACFT which was a lot higher than what Captain Tom scored, and over 120 points higher than the average score for men. And the ACFT is weighted to more heavily in favor of strength over endurance.
I have actually raced Ashton to a Frisbee during a party. I think it was a family reunion for my brother. If Ashton sees this comment it was at that place were a guy had those planes
Great challenege, aweosme to see Ashton Eaton on the channel he was really uplifting. Nick I knoiw you are doing more explosive training now but what was your 5k pb back in the day, I am interested in your endurance?
Hey Nick, I run long distance in track and run cross country and im a big fan of you and your videos any good tips for this coming season? (I’m in 7th grade this is my mom’s account, I’m actually 12 in middle school) Love your channel, keep making amazing videos!
I know it's pathetic, but there's something so thrilling knowing my long ago terrible high school/college years track & field results are better than Nick's current ability.. lol.. I really wish there was some 'decathlon' club I could join where I could do all the events and keep testing my improvement in all of them.. it's such a fun bunch of stuff to do..

Damn man, I want you and the Cap'n to train a full year on decathlon and see where y'all get. Absolutely epic. And Ashton is such a great person and coach, amazing energy, support, and personality.
Ashton was amazing here, hope to see him again.
Thank you for this message William!! And congrats on the HUGE improvement!!!!
Very Proud of you brother!!! *HUGS* hahaha
I was so excited when I saw that Ashton Eaton was in the video. He’s literally one of my favourite athletes and he’s no longer in the public eye much anymore since he retired so it’s cool to finally se him again. Especially in a head to head style RUclips video like this.
Your a really high morale guy Nick. Good job on bringing happiness into so many peoples lives.
Do you love Nick?
@@johnreidy2804 absolutely
@@danielcharlton5159 He is a very entertaining fellow with a warm smile and a kind heart.
Oh no I think I love his channel too! LOL
My 18 year old HS Senior just did his first Decathlon over Father's Day weekend and managed 3956 points with HS level throwing weights and hurdles. He was representing the 800m crew as well. Loved watching you two do it.
"well rounded, not superior" Tom is humble.
As a masters decathlete this was so much fun to watch. I love that you had Ashton Eaton guiding you. My hat goes off to the Captain Tom for an impressive performance!!
Aston Eaton was so incredibly positive and warm. You can't just put on an act and be like that. Awesome to see.
I love this friendship built between Nick and Captain Tom 👍🏽
This is my favorite video you've made...definitely!
Thank you!! It was a REALLY hard one to edit.
I had never heard of Ashton Eaton and he just was so positive. So encouraging it made me smile. Hopefully he has a RUclips channel I can watch.
These videos keep getting better and better. Keep it up, Nick!
Ty. Great content and so cool that Ashton Eaton was able to make it. I saw his 45sec 400m run on tv and I was like what on earth just happened :D
Thank you so much for putting all the measurements in the metric system!
That's how the Olympics are
Its so cool to see ashton talk about the decatholn as a junior natonal decathlete its so amazing to see people do thigs like this and endure the pain us decathletes do
Decathlon looks so fun, if only I could do high jump/had like 10kg more muscle so I could throw decently
One of your best feel good videos. Ashton was truly such a great guest. And that Barbell gear really looked good on Nick.
A 45m javelin throw having never touched a javelin is no joke
WOW!!! THIS WAS GREAT!! YOU ALL have inspired me to get off my arse, and get with it!
Starting now,,,, full fledged get back in shape time...
I use to be a pretty good athlete... now at my age, I want to be "pretty ok" again!! TY guys!
Wow, mad respect for Tom and his performance!!!
The greatest event it Track and Field! Finally! I've been waiting for this video for years. And it features Ashton Eaton, the greatest athlete ever!
Ashton seems like a super cool guy. Seeing him get genuinely excited when Nick or Tom did well in an event was great.
At least Nick is the most consistent...at fouls? Great effort and awesome video guys!! 🤣🤣🤣
Such a great video...so good to see Ashton and get some education about the sport. And it all looked like so much fun.
This was a joy to watch. Nick you're doing such an incredible job marketing track and field. That being said, I now know I can throw a javelin better than an Olympian :D
Best video of Nick Symmonds
It’s funny.. I went in to the urgent care today and met Tom, I had an injury related to track and he said he had just done some track stuff recently… I asked and he said it was with Nick symmonds so here I am watching the video 😂😂
Need some jumpers at NSTC high jump
Amazing video! I love how this channel takes Track & Field and puts it in a very entertaining format that anyone can enjoy. congrats!
I love your videos Nick! Thx for giving me motivation to run!
Thanks for watching!!
Wow this was without a doubt my favorite video you've made. Always wanted to see you try a dec and to have america's greatest athlete Ashton Eaton in it made this whole video 100x better. Good stuff Nick and congrats to Captain Tom
Nick reminds me of the sibling who gets more love and care because he’s younger while Tom is the older sibling who does perfect and gets nothing
Kudos to Nick for doing this with what was obviously NO preparation. It's pretty obvious that he's never participated in a throwing sport in his life.
Yo, you guys finally did my event. I'm 20 years old, and I compete in Australia. My best in the Decathlon is 6702, and that was my first decathlon using open specifications. So glad you guys are trying it out! I'll have to race you guys if you come to australia
That’s solid, dude!
Agreed Nick!! Ashton is amazing , running against him was always fun
Hey nick, when is the track classic for this year gonna start? I love watching all the races
Next week!!!!

(Nick's pinned comment)
Getting behind in the Decathlon points - The only way to get Nick to actually run fast and not just sit and kick.
(There’s like 4 of them!)
great idea!!
Great Video! Your comps against the Cap'n are always great. Congratulations Tom!
I met you and Aston back in 2015 at the ATC classic @ Emory in Atlanta . You two were total class acts & great athletes! Anyways Nick I was thinking of a challenge video for you. Trying doing the 100,000 steps challenge in one day.
This was so much fun to watch! My best decathlon was 5642 and it was just a fun experience. Glad to see you jump over to the multis!
Tom is a beast for a gray haired old man
Nick you and your crusade are incredible. Thank you for your videos. I constantly enjoy watching them.
Huge respect for Captain Tom! Awesome athlete
This was so much fun to watch and man what an athlete Tom is…super impressive.
@@queencool710Nick’s been doing a lot of power lifting lately.
You guys are such good sports! Also wow, Ashton is SO FRIENDLY, I would love to see him in future videos! LOVE THIS CHANNEL.
Ashton Eaton is DA MAN, time for more collabs with him, so you can beat an olympic champion in some track and field event like 110m hurdles, hahaha!
Yes, Ashton!!! I miss watching this man compete. Awesome video, Nick! 👏🏽✌🏽
Tom need to be getting into some 40+ usatf dec and jav comps that man will clean house
SERIOUSLY!!!!
Absolutely loved this
Loved your positive attitude towards learning and getting better 💪🏽👏🏽
I have actually raced Ashton to a Frisbee during a party. I think it was a family reunion for my brother. If Ashton sees this comment it was at that place were a guy had those planes
Tom was incredible. Nick is great in creating content
Great challenege, aweosme to see Ashton Eaton on the channel he was really uplifting.
Nick I knoiw you are doing more explosive training now but what was your 5k pb back in the day, I am interested in your endurance?
I never really raced 5K. In my prime I would have been in the low 14 min range
Love seeing a new face and new music keep it up nick!
decathlon pro's are actual peak athletes
Ashton Eaton just seems like a lovely human. Awesome to see someone so absurdly talented also just be a good dude.
ashton seems like such a good guy
he really is!!
The "What are thooose" What are Thooose" had me rolling
Hey Nick, I run long distance in track and run cross country and im a big fan of you and your videos any good tips for this coming season? (I’m in 7th grade this is my mom’s account, I’m actually 12 in middle school) Love your channel, keep making amazing videos!
Carb up the night before a run!
@@pepsico815 how?
@@pepsico815 it is actually sounds against that in order to carb properly you need to starve yourself of carbs for about 24 hours before carb loading
For middle school track, carb loading isn’t going to do as much as just training hard
You’re not running distances in middle school that carb loading will help. Don’t worry about that
I love how Ashton is excited at every attempt amazing !
Keep in mind all this was done in about 2.5 hours. I can't imagine doing the 1 hour decathlon
NICK! THIS WAS THE DUEL THE PEOPLE WANTED! Capt. Tom v Nick will be remembered for ages! Hahaha. Congrats on the Barbell sponsorship.
I was sold with Tom's knee mobility in the long jump.
wish there was a triple jump one
