  • This is our Sun Conure that we got 9/25/14. He is 8 months old. The previous owner got him when he was 3 months old and for the next 5 months, he didn’t have much human interaction and spent most of his time in a tiny cage inside a garage with other caged birds (finches, parakeets, cockatiels). We are in the process of re-homing and re-training him. This video is from his first 5 days with us.

    My Sun Conure moves his head the same way. It's so cute. He tries to talk but it's such a whisper we can't hear what he is saying. I have had him for 3 years now and still can't hear what he is saying.

    I had been told you should not mix different types of birds together that goes for Sun Conures...They should be caged separate....Good luck in Re-Training....

    • @jacquelyn515
      @jacquelyn515 7 лет назад

      Sun Conures sorry should be with other Sun Conures only not with a cockatiel or any other bird in the same cage...Regardless of how much love they have for each other...Were talking about birds not dogs....

    Late comment but, How was he now flying out the cage door while Its open? my sun conure (I've been with my conure for 1 week now) just goes crazy and flies to my ceiling fan (turned off) he eats off my finger but not my palm and looks very hesitant, I'm trying to be really slow and I don't and can't really clip his wings (that or I have to take him to a vet) So was Sunset hand fed or tamed while he was with his old owners?
    ****any advice will be thanked****

    Dowel perches? Not a good idea. First off, dowel perches are harmful to your birds feet they cause painfully sores. Have you ever seen a perfectly straight tree branch in the wild? No. So it shouldn't be in your birds cage or should I say habitat. Natural perches on the other hand will keep your parrots feet in top condition. Also conures and cockatiels should definitely not be in one single cage, they are to deferent, it does not matter if they like each other or not, it matters about being safe and healthy.. Look at there feet, your conures feet are bigger than your teils, meaning they must have different size perches to fit there feet. Perches to birds are like shoes for people, they can cause discomfort if there to big(much like your dowel perch) and can be uncomfortable if to small. You must also provide a verity of different texture perches aswell, imagine you sticking to the same pair of shoes for the rest of your life...

      kimuseni I have a cage that has 2 dowel perches and I added 2 natural tree branch perches and every time my birds are in the cage, I find them on the dowel perches. They obviously prefer that one over the natural tree branch types. I also have a sun conure and a cockatiel in the same cage and they love each other! I can't separate them!

    I've had my sun conure from the 31st of august, he still seems very scared. He would try to bite anyone who'd get close to him. He does not let me try to touch him or anything. I don't know how to tame him. Any ideas? according to his former owner he was 3 months, however he looks quite older.

      Just like any other animals, you can’t mix them up right away especially if one has lived in that cage by himself for a long time. It’s like their space being invaded. They need time to get along. And maybe put them in separate cages but close to each other.

    What size cage is that? The bird breeder told me no less than 18x18 (I think it's 31" tall) but an online cage store told me no less than the 20x22x34" tall. Significant price difference..

    my friend had a conure they coulden't handle that bites constantly. But likes me and I ignore the bites their more like decenet nips...they wanted me to pay 700 for him since thats what they paid to have the cage ect. I was like...seriously i come over almost everyday to see him...you are to afraid to work with or handle him. And U want me to pay that much for a old bird...I didn't buy the bird. I would pay like 100. or 150....but not that much. Hes an aggressive unwanted bird I don't have that much....I bought my conure from a breeder. But I still feel sorry for little kevin..

    • @strangehappenings8682
      @strangehappenings8682 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah. I just loved the little guy. I found a breeder. The wife wanted me to have him the husband was like well if you take all his stuff and pay us 700.00 for it all and him. I was like.....nope...I'll give ya 50.00 for the bird. He was a 13 year old untamed not handled parrot. They were afraid of his nips....so stupid and sad. I love my little bird. But I would have rescued little Kevin happily.

      I got my Sun Conure for 350 I think. 600 usually is the regular price for them I think, between 500 and 600. I also got a Red Lored Amazon for 550. So the price sounds a little off to me for the Conure. Although I'm a regular amd friends with the owner of the pet store. How old is your Conure now? I've noticed mine getting a little more aggressive but I think it's because it's mating season.

    Hello I am a fellow bird enthusiast and I was wondering because I have a cockatiel and we are going to get a sun Conure and I was wondering how do you train them to be like that with each other and how do you introduce them to each other for them to act like that with each other and be nice

    • @JesusRodriguez-yi4kh
      @JesusRodriguez-yi4kh 8 лет назад

      +kimuseni we did get a sun conure but I didn't want to take the chance of our sun conure(mango) biting or injuring my cockatiel so they live in separate cages in one cage we have my cockatiel and my brothers parakeet . In the other cage we have a sun and green cheek

    I need help.. I have a cockatiel who lives with a yellowsided conure. The cockatiel is really shy and introverted, he comes out of his cage to watch the us but doesn't spend time with us. He likes to be alone and when seperated from his cage he freaks out and flys away. I'm worried about him, our conure gets so much attention from us because he is sweet. Our cockatiel was not like this when he was a baby... I don't know what to do, I feel bad for him and feel that it is best if I give him away but I have had him since he was a baby.. Any advice?

    • @sania2931
      @sania2931 8 лет назад

      He does not have his own cage, he has been sharing a cage with my conure since they were babies. When I spend time with my cockatiel he tends to fly away and get himself hurt so I'm not sure what I can do..

    • @jackystar5099
      @jackystar5099 6 лет назад

      Marlene MCohen has great tips and taming birds. The only thing I can say is try to slowly hand feed him treats he loves and leave the cage open so je feels like he can come out when he wants.

  • @RayPaganJr
    @RayPaganJr 5 лет назад +1

    If you keep the perch that is in this cage your birds will suffer and loose their ability to grip. They are too big for both cockatiel and your conure. Also get another cage for the conure. As the conure gets older, he will take out his aggression on the cockatiel.
