Most urban kiwis actually sound like her, but people tend to expect that we all sound like the South Islanders they met at all the tourist hotspots in the South Island, or like Rhys Darby who sports a rural farmboy twang despite growing up in Auckland. So yes, her accent is mild in the strictest sense, but it only appears remarkable because the rarer extremes have received more exposure.

I'm usually more partial to a subtle Southern American accents or certain East Coast accents (as long as they aren't absurdly thick). I also enjoy some InterContinental accents as well. I grew up primarily in the American Southeast so many accents from the Westcoast, parts of the North, and Midwest sound too effeminate and/or corny to my Southern ears. Certain overly posh English accents give a similar impression. Scottish accents (the ones I can actually understand) are easily in my top 3 favorite accents. I like accents that sound like they could win a fist fight if need be, but they're too sensible and intelligent to be goaded into one. I want an accent that sounds like he knows how to use power tools, but he also likes to read. Everyone has their quirks. Haha!
