- During the summer of 1986, my good friend Alan travelled around the UK, armed with a hefty VHS camera, recording the railway scene. I'm delighted to be able to bring you the results. In Part 14, Alan spends an evening on an overbridge just south of the yet to be electrified Doncaster Station in South Yorkshire. An unidentified Class 47 heads north with a Freightliner working, passing a freshly outshopped class 50 in undercoat, awaiting its shiny new Network South East livery. A Railfreight grey Class 47 heads onto the Rotherham line with an interesting rake of engineer's cement mixer wagons and a Class 31 follows on the breakdown train. A class 31 heads south hauling just two Mark 1 coaches. Although I can't be sure, there's a good chance this is a DMU substitution on the 2033 service to Lincoln. A 31/4 heads towards Rotherham with a South Trans Pennine service from Hull or Cleethorpes to Liverpool via Sheffield, Stockport and Manchester Picadilly. A class 56 heads empty MGR hoppers northwards before a class 253 IC125 HST accelerates away fro the town with a service for London Kings Cross. I'd love to hear your thoughts about this video. It’s been fabulous seeing how well received Alan’s films have been, especially since he wasn’t sure anyone would be too interested in them. The cement mixer train is part of the electrification scheme underway and would be bound for the elctrification part of Hexthorpe Sidings (a short distance away). The "breakdown train) hauled by the class 31 is not actually a breakdown train but an engineers train. Firstly, the crane would not have the lifting ability for the potential weights in an incident. Furthermore, a breakdown train would consist of a small number of support carriages for crew mess accommodation and storage of equipment. Also, the first wagon in the consist looks to be a viaduct inspection wagon.
At that time in history it was the Cleethorpes services that were loco-hauled.

I remember going into Doncaster works to look at the last Deltic I was missing from list, 55003, saddened me to see 6/7 of them lined up for scrap 🤬
I couldn't agree more. That line of unloved Deltics, filthy and missing their nameplates, was an extremely sad sight for every enthusiast who saw it.

Great footage,spent many happy hours on this bridge taking pictures,couldnt afford a camcorder then!happy days.doni works did not have the painting plan for the nse livery and 50035 returned in primer.
