    I have 2, both in black, gold trim with a two tone nib and one with the silver trim, silver nib. I have been using them and I'm amazed at the buttery, silky smooth writing experience. The #8 nib even has a bit of bounce and a tad of flex. I find myself reaching for these pens instead of some of my others. Pleasant to hold, pleasant to write with and nice to look at. What a bargain! 😊

    Thank you, Aziza (sorry if I got the spelling of your name wrong). I have a couple of the Jinhao x159 fountain pens, which I primarily purchased to give to friends considering writing with a fountain pen. 😊 I also ordered the 3-pen package (one in each of the 3 new colors or black with gold trim). Between the amazing Jinhao 100 Centennial and this pen with a # 8 nib, I am thoroughly impressed by Jinhao’s prices for the degree of quality received. Their nib is tuned extraordinarily well. Like you, I could not believe the writing experience could be as good as it is for the price. As a retired university professor, I cannot afforded to give away many fountain pens, but I have ordered a number of the two models mentioned just so I can spread the love of fountain pens! Thank you for your excellent review! :)

    I own a x159 and like it a lot. Because of its girthy size, I noticed that the pen sort of makes me write a bit larger than I'm used to. I'm a fan of Jinhao pens and my absolute favorite is the 51A. I have been a fountain pen user for the past 40 years now and the 51A has been my go-to-pen for the pasts few months.

    Greetings from Australia.
    Great Video.
    I received my X159 about 3 weeks ago from China. It is the original X with silver trim.
    It is a great writer I am so impressed that I will be buying the full set of new colours with gold trim and two toned nib. I don't have an issue with scratching as my pens are in a cabinet and I work from home.
    Great value only $16Aud with free postage.
    It is a great starter pen and for people on a low budget.

    I've purchased half a dozen of these guys and every one writes like a dream. I tend to flush my pens out before using them for the first time, and each one of them spit a little blue ink, suggesting they were checked and perhaps even tuned before being released into the wild. I also used a mild polishing compound to shine them up and they look very nice afterward. Since the first day I received them I've been saying that, if Jinhao just improved the quality of the plastics a bit, made them a touch more substantial, and improved the polish, the X159 would be a world beater at $20-$30. Add a 14k nib and they would be punching way above their weight at $150. Regardless, at less than $10, they are a huge bargain as they are! Great video and thank you for reviewing this pen!

    Thanks so much for the video, I loved it. Still loved it when my X159 in the black with an EF nib arrived and had hard starts, skipping, and ink starvation. I ordered another in black with an EF nib with hope for better. Not here yet. But I did the 7 downward strokes trick I saw somewhere on the EF, pressing down carefully to spread the tines seven times --did it many times over, probably more like 77 times or more all told. Today I filled the pen, wrote until it was almost empty (as a wrier, no problem doing that) with NO MORE hard starts, skips or starvation. YAY!! Hope it's solved the problems for good. It writes considerably wetter but, thankfully, not that much broader at all, just darker. with consistent ink flow. Haven't seen much on the EF nib, so for those that like EFs it writes very like my Pilot Custom Heritage 92 EF nib as far as line width and wetness go, just not as bouncy. I now love the X159 as much as I expected to !!! Thought I'd post this In case anyone else is having similar problems with a nib or wonders how the EF writes.

    My x159 came with a fine nib that was kind of scratchy. I got a set of five medium Gullor nibs for about $12. The Gullor nibs were better out of the box and with a few passes of mylar abrasive, they are as good as anything I've got.
    Pulling the stock nib was a study in provisional engineering. I can't get the feed to separate from the section, so I used the pliers from my Leatherman tool. Yes. I used pliers on a nib. As best I can tell, the nib survived.
    The replacement Gullor turned out so nice, I got a second x159. Same story, with one variation. The feed didn't fit up against the bottom of the nib. I used hot water from the tap and bent the feed a little.
    Now I've got two x159's that write equally well, starting under their own weight without skips, even though they've been heartlessly mutilated by multitool.

    This pen is absolutely amazing for the price. It writes just as smoothly as pens in the 200 dollar range. The only thing I wish they had kept from the metal version is the cap threading. The metal version is basically 1 turn and the "special resin" version is right at 3 full turns. Not a big deal but something I hope they consider going forward.

    • @ironmic9244

      @@paulmchugh1430 I guess I can agree with it being an alternative, though I'd probably say it's more of a substitute, but I guess alternate can work. Maybe I am just hung up on semantics. Or maybe I'm just flat out against these copycat pens. I see the 1911 KOP as a competitor, and it doesn't irk me so much because I guess while they are copying the 149, Sailor's quality can match that of MB (not saying MB is the greatest pen out there), while Jinhao is just undercutting the market to sell a pen (though it probably isn't). Bad word. Undermining MB is better. Jinhao can built a decent pen for their price, and have their own design, and I'd be totally cool with it. Heck, I might even buy it. But if you undermine someone who has put the work into their product, I am not impressed.

    Best quality of this pen is right out of the package into ink and on to paper, no issues just flows nicely.

    and writing with high, high end pens, you did a fair review. I own 5 of the X159s and enjoy writing with that
    #8 nib. I don't try to compare a $9.00 X159 with a $800-$1,200 MB 149. That would be unrealistic, for a
    $9.00 pen cannot be made out of the same quality materials as the MB 149. My (5) X159s are: Burgundy,
    black, blue, white & olive green.

    On a materials convo, the #8 steel nib provides more flexibility, since the geometry of it allows to do so. Polywatch can take out the scuffs from the acrylic, inexpensive, so the pen checks off all the boxes.

    Are all your X159s performing this smooth and wet? I'm new to fountain pens. So far, I only have a Kakuno Medium nib, and I really like it. I tried ordering this pen in Green color Fine nib from ebay. I've seen a bunch of videos and comments, and it seems like half the people are blown away, and the other half are underwhelmed. I think it comes down to whether you receive a well tuned nib or out of tune nib. I read one comment on Inkuiring Minds review, that it's performing better than their actual Montblanc. Another one person said they ordered 3 of them, and one performs great, one is okay, and the other is bad.

    Love the review. I don't think anyone who can afford the 149 is going to decide to buy one of these as an alternative, if anything it could be a gateway drug to the more expensive Montblanc. Many people started with inexpensive pens and eventually reached to something more when a special occasion or desire finally gave way.

    I’m experimenting how to make it eye-droppable. Sure you have to push some silicone plug down in the barrel to isolate the metal ring area… maybe some PTFE tape to seal the threads… for a 10 bucks pen I would not take so much care to the metal parts in the grip section…

    They actually do come in 8 colors- white, 2 shades of green, coffee, orange, blue, wine, and black. They are on Etsy, now, so I suppose they’ll eventually be carried by more established vendors. Ahora tengo mis tres plumas x159 y todas ellas tienen mas rayones que mi Montblanc 146 que tengo hace 37 años y que también uso en forma habitual. Al ritmo que van, estimo que en menos de 1 año van a parecer MUY VIEJAS y MALTRATADAS. Hay que decir lo bueno y lo malo y esto de la falta de resistencia a los rayones es malo.

    The cigar shape has always been the most common in fountain pens, the Jinhao is actually similar to many fountain pens even made today. Montblancs are plastic, they're garbage. You pay hundreds of $ more than they are worth for the supposedly "luxury" brand, but plastic is not luxury, gold plating is not luxury, machine made gold nibs are not luxury. A gold nib costs a manufacturer the same as a steel one. The costs in an industry are human labor and the most valuable thing is the fame that the brand may have. If you want a plastic pen dont pay hundreds of $ for it because that only shows that you are a fool who has fallen into the trap of marketing.

    I don't get it. If they can copy this, they can create their own design. Even the 1911 has distinguishable features. While the 1911 does look like a Meisterstuck, the shape is not the same, while here the shape looks exactly alike, but at least one can definitely see some differences. The new Moonman P136, looks just like the 146 with the exception of the capband and rings. I mean come on, they can't even change the number system. 149>>>>X159????????, 146>>>>>>P136??????

    • @notsimar
      @notsimar 2 года назад +2

      You could argue this design is pretty universal, and the lack of trim rings around the cap band makes it different from the 149.

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 2 года назад

      @@notsimar How did the design become universal? The cigar shape is not MB's invention, but the reason the design has become universal, could be because the design has been copied universally. Who is the originator of the design? I believe it was MB. I mentioned the cap band and rings, and yes, that can distinguish it, but that does not change the fact. Of course it's a different pen, I never said it was. I commented that if they can copy this pen, not to mention all the other they copy, they can create their own design.

    • @notsimar
      @notsimar 2 года назад +1

      @@ironmic9244 the fact is that it’s a cc filler and not a piston. It fills a market segment that mb and others ignore. Conflating Jinhao with Moonman is a weak argument to make. This pen is an improvement on what MB offers with the 149 for those that want cc fillers so they can change inks quickly.

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 2 года назад

      @@notsimar What is your point? I find it funny how I bring up the design of the pen, and you're making it seem like I am saying they are the same pen.

    • @notsimar
      @notsimar 2 года назад +1

      @@ironmic9244 The pens are not dimensionally identical. The design differs as the tapers on the 149 are different (finial, piston knob, section and barrel), the cap diameter is larger on the 149, the center band is larger on the 149. In reality, the X159 is better in some aspects than the 149 because it doesn't suffer the same cap wobble issues and finally offers a #8 cc pen at a more affordable price point.
