  • Tales of the Yoruba people are bigger than Africa. Yes, you're right. In this episode, I'm looking for the real and accurate history of Alaafin Oropontoniyun, the Alaafin of the ancient Oyo kingdoms. The first and only female Alaafin of Oyo. We talk about how the Yorubas have expanded their empire to (Kingdom of Dahomey) Cotonou, Benin Republic, where we just returned, and how the Yorubas have a large population and influence in Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana.
Orompoto was the first female Alaafin in the old Oyo Empire. She controlled an empire that encompassed what is now western and north-central Nigeria. When her father died, her brother, Prince Eguguoju, succeeded him as the next in line to the throne. He died in his youth, though, without a male heir. Prince Ajiboyede and Prince Tella, her younger brothers, were too young to inherit the throne at the time. As a result, Orompoto would step down as regent and ascend to the throne. The council of chiefs objected to this decision because the kingdom had never had a female monarch before.
I hear there is a Yoruba agitation going on, and many people have been saying that Yorubas have powers. I'd like to know whether this is real and if the Yoruba nation would be able to stand up to the government with our power. The Ajuda, Ayuda, Yahuda, aka Yoruba established New Lagos in West Africa, which was named after Lagos Portugal. Go pull up the 1747 Map of West Africa and you will find the Kingdom of Judah. Yoruba is not a fulani word. It's not in fufude and arab doesn't have the word o in their language so yoruba didn't originate from the arab but they are among the first to write about Yoruba and what was written down was yaruba because they don't have o.
It's a long story but i shaKe head for we the young yoruba when i see yoruba sons or daughters write from their well of ignorance.

So we were referred to as the Aku people but it didn't stick. Out of names that were given to us only Yoruba stick because our brothers accepted the name after they were captured as slaves to distinguish themselves.
And Ajayi crowther popularise it by naming it's first written bible works, the bible of the Yoruba.
It was the baatonu that was calling their trade partners from Oyo the name, Yorubu(1 person) or Yoruba(2 or more) but our slaves brother were the first to declare themselves Yoruba after being called by the baatonu for years because back home they were just Omo alade and they need no reason to distinguish themselves among their people but the scenario required it at that point.

Ile-Ife is the head of all Yoruba (Omoluabi) that is why you have Oranmiyan stool of office in Ile-Ife till today. The problem is the name Yoruba, that name was from Fulani trader with Oyo region. The meaning of Yoruba is slamming people, untrusted that where Oyo empire come about. You are totally wrong if you don’t know the history please ask, Oduduwa meet people in ile ife which means his not the first person there and they have their own language which is different from Yoruba. Oranmiyan who is the son of Oduduwa the founder of Oyo later came back to ife to become king did you ever know this ? And that’s why you have his staff there . Ooni is a chief priest of Oduduwa who became arole when all of Oduduwa sons are not around to be king when their father pass. That’s why OYO language is the Yoruba language me and you are speaking today. Ooni means ooni ji ri orisa which is abore, while Alaafin means the owner of the throne . In Yoruba land meaning of the names are very important.

If Oranmiyan left ILE-iFE establish Oyo and when he came back to Ile-Ife what happened? . He returned to be the king over the whole Yorubaland including Oyo. The meaning of Ile-Ife is land of expansion meaning the whole Yorubaland is an extension of Ile-Ife. Then how can an extended land becomes the head of the main land. Oranmiyan returns and become the King in ile ife because he his a rightful owner of the throne and he wasn’t called ooni when he was the king in ile ife after he has established and ruled as first Alaafin Oyo . After he died there was no direct son of Oduduwa who is ready to be king then and they asked the chief priest to be the king instead and that’s why it’s been called according to his title ooni ji ri orisa now turned to ooni of ife . Meaning Oyo throne is the rightful and head of the Yoruba obas that’s why after Oranmiyan when his son Sango was ruling and established Oyo empire that rules over all Yoruba land and beyond the ooni can’t talk then . Go and study the history of OYO Empire please. Alafia is the head of Yoruba obas

That is the state in which we have found ourselves, and I am confident that we are wiser than we think we are, and we will be out of this mess in no time. According to history, this isn't the first time the Fulani have come after us.

I would like to disagree with you sir the Yorubas are not slaves they have never been the yoruba's knew understood science and other things which have merely came to limelight a few years ago for instance the yoruba's knew aliens existed the was what prompted the concept of Egungun they thought knew could speak with this Etraterestrials through Egungun and seek their knowledge although some Egungun were for the purpose of speaking with the dead
even when the Yorubas were taken as slaves to Portugal they changed the architecture of that place till today.. the Yoruba were architects too

@@abinibihub in the true sense of it the word Yoruba was coined from the word yariba which was used to refer to the people from Oyo by the northerners of the kokawa kingdom as they both had much contact during the time of oranmiyan as he was the first notable figure to lead a trade expenditure to that kingdom so Yoruba is Oyo and Oyo is Yoruba..

Yorubas are not slave under Fulani! We defeated fulanis several times when they tried invading our lands! The so called Nigeria is limiting us, hence we can’t exercise our power under the umbrella of one Nigeria!
