      He definitely isn't a HOF player, but he could've been if the league had let him be himself. Also Hubie Brown basically forced him to play conventionally, which took away his greatness.

    Instead of embracing his awesome game and showmanship, many didn't want to accept him and instead wanted to change him. Then they spent the next era looking for something they already had and was gone. He had soul to his game and he wasn't just flash, he was a winner. He also helped put Sacramento on the map. He became the scapegoat for the team, but America didn't embrace him because he was "White Chocolate". Now the NBA is a crap fest of overrated stars, who would barely be all stars just 10 years prior. After Lebron leaves, this league is gonna stink to high heaven. Miss you J Dub.

    • @jdilla4591
      @jdilla4591 7 лет назад +17

      lmao relax I agree with your point on j will but give these stars credit. the NBA hasn't had talent like this since the mid to late 80s. Even the bad teams have young players that are gonna be elite as they get older. I remember when people said the 2000s were weak but now praising the era. Gotta respect the past but also realize the game is only getting better.

    • @Paul.Burrell
      @Paul.Burrell 7 лет назад +9

      Jonas Joseph Naw, I disagree the talent crop is real wack. The new era of superstars today would just be all stars 15 years ago. Some wouldn't even be all stars. Kyle Lowry was a bench player in the last era. I like some of these guys a bit, but guys like Jimmy Butler are not superstars at all. He is a role player type. He's an Aaron McKie at best. He's not even a Michael Finley. Steph can ball, but most of these other guys aren't even fundamentally sound. They rely too much on their athleticism. Even guys like Porzingis. He's not a star player. Yeah he can do a bit of everything, but does nothing very well. The league is begging to try to make stars out of guys who aren't. Imagine Draymond Green trying to guard Hakeem Olajuwan. He's get so smoked it would be laughable. But in this era he can guard these wack centers.

    • @jdilla4591
      @jdilla4591 7 лет назад +11

      +Paul Burrell LMFAOOO jimmy butler is a Aaron mckie ??? yeah man nothing is wrong with nostalgia but danm bro. I consider myself a bball historian. Love 80s/90s and obviously was a teenager in the 2000s so I know the game but your just caught up in the old era. Your telling me Anthony Davis, LeBron, KD, Curry, Demarcus, Chris Paul, Karl Anthony Towns, Giannis, Westbrook, Harden, Kahwi, Aldridge, Blake, Kyle Lowry, Derozen, Marc Gasol, Hayward, Jabari, Melo, Porzingis, Klay Thompson, Isaiah Thomas, Kyrie, Love, Damian Lliard, Andre Drummond, Embid, Kemba Walker and sooooooo much more players wouldn't be superstars/high level allstars players ? dude come on now I gotta question if you truly love the game if you think not. and stop talking about the 2000s like there wasn't the same rules that today players play with lmao these guys all played against guys from the earlier era and did the same things there doing now. smh its funny cuz 10 Years are gonna go by and your gonna realized you missed out alot of great players.

    • @Paul.Burrell
      @Paul.Burrell 7 лет назад +5

      Most of the dudes on your list played in the previous era. Alot of these dudes were in the league when Kobe was in his prime still, even Westbrook and Harden. Hayward is a star in this era, but he's a role player at best. He's not even close to a Jamal Mashburn. Towns and the others are solid. Anthony Davis can ball, so can a few others, but this era overall is very weak. The list you just created has guys from a previous era, even Aldridge. He was ballin when Brandon Roy was in the league and considered a possible rising star. He wasn't an all star in those days because the league was full of good PFs. I'm a big basketball fan, but you can't honestly tell me this upcoming era isn't weak. The guys in college are even pretty weak. There really isn't a crop of stars even in college that are sure to be NBA stars. The truth is, somebody is going to be the best of a bad bunch, and those are the stars of this current league. Anybody on that list playing in 2010 can't really be truly considered to be from this era. Of the guys on that list who were, only the HOF caliber guys were all stars. Marc Gasol was on a championship team, and was considered a crap player who was thrown in for his brother. He is solid, but name one HOF center in the league now. The only one is Dwight, and even he may not get in because of the media hate. Pau was way better in the league than Marc has been even in Memphis. Kawhi is good. Most of the others are just better than the other weak guys like Kyle and Derozan. They are not all stars at all. Baron Davis was better than pretty much every guard in this league right now. Only Chris Paul and Curry are better. Lebron, Melo, Paul, etc don't count at all in this current era. They are aging and on their way out.

    • @jdilla4591
      @jdilla4591 7 лет назад +4

      +Paul Burrell Disagree with you 1000%. Of course Aldridge didn't make an all star he was a young player getting better every year & this upcoming draft is one of the best drafts in 10 years, what do you mean there is no young talent? & Jamal Mashburn way better the Hayward ??? Dude your just stuck on nostalgia you have to admit it. It seems like you don't even keep up with the NBA. We've never had this much good shooting in any era before, defensive schemes have improved mightily from the illegal defense days. Players are so versatile now that you can't even box them into a position anymore. Look at the top 5 sf & pg positions. LeBron KD Kahwi Giannis Paul George & so many more. Curry Westbrook CP3 Wall Thomas & so many more. Those positions have never been this stacked with great to elite talent. Plus you still got SG like Harden Klay Derozen Cj and more. the Center position is coming back With cousins Embid Myles Turner Towns Whiteside Gasol Jordan Jokic Drummond and more. pf position isn't as good as it was in the 2000s but still solid. and there is so many young players who are gonna be stars. You don't have to like it but you gotta respect it. I can watch old school basketball & love it but still recognize that the game is in great hands. Still got some 2000s stars mixed in with stars now and a boat load of future talent.

    He'd be a way better fit for today's game where coaches just let the guards go through mistakes and not punish them for turnovers. I mean just look at guys like Harden and Westbrook getting double digit turnovers on a nightly basis while shooting 40% and under. In the 90s and early 2ks, coaches were all trying to slow it down and call plays every time down. They tried to neuter white chocolate and his stats took a major hit. You have to let guys like this just play. Easy 8 and 10 player today.

      He didn't have a consistent three-point shot, so I don't see him fitting today's pace-and-space game with its emphasis on point guards who can draw fouls and shoot from outside. See also: Ricky Rubio. You could maybe put Rondo in this category, but Rondo could do other things (steals and rebounds).
      That said, Williams was one of the most watchable and memorable players of that era. Did things with the ball that even now seem magical. I hope these videos get handed down, so to speak and some kid somewhere is spending hours throwing behind-the-back passes at a gym wall like Williams did.

    A youtube era player before youtube really existed. Try to imagine him in today's point guard dominated era. Still marvel the way he faked out the entire league. Flashy player in Sac, traded to Memphis where he grew and matured almost in secret, and then in Miami everyone thought he was just going to be a flashy assist machine again and he faked them all out and started racing to the rim. Incredible player.

    I know Jason’s stats don’t compare to a lot of hall of famers, but we should really ask ourselves- what is the reason for the hall of fame? To honor those who made a contribution to the game. Jason Williams definitely made a contribution to basketball- in a time when we were all trying copy moves from Street ball, he brought excitement and awe to the NBA. I would vote him to the hall in a heartbeat if given the opportunity. He was our times’ Pistol Pete. Thanks for the great games and moves Jason!!!
