We went from Master Books for years LA to Fix it Grammar this year… Wow!!! My kids learned everything I’ve been trying to teach them the last 3 years… all in 10 weeks 😳😳seriously. And they actually like doing it!! So thankful for it…
Yes! IEW is great. I did level B with all of my kids when they were in Jr High. It's the only writing program we used and only the 1 year. Yes they did write for other classes but this was the only official writing class. It prepared my kids so well for college. We used analytical grammar for our grammar program and also only did it during jr high. A lot of people think you need to do grammar and writing every year but not true. Enjoy!
🥰We use Fix It Grammer as well and I just incorporated Essentials in Writing. Easy lessons , they watch a video for each lesson and do on their own. I love it. Writing is something my boys struggle with so it’s helping a ton. (3rd &5th) ❤️
You and I did the exact same thing. Switched to IEW. We did our first lesson today with the Student Structure via videos online. We will take it into next year. I was really happy when I saw this video. I told my husband “oh my gosh! Us too!”
Oh, I LOVE how they have revised the new Fix-it Grammar!!! We (my oldest and I) are currently going through the old version of Fix-it Grammar Nose tree. We really like it because it is simple and painless.
Oh my WE LOVE IEW. I was soooo overwhelmed because I didn't understand it. But once we starred my boys just loved it and I loved that they were writting! (we had done LLFLE for a few years before) and Fix it grammer is there FAVORITE especially the new book layouts they are amazing!
I have been thinking of IEW for a few years now!! Kept putting it off. Have been Thinking of making the change for next year since I have an upcoming 9th grader. More of these videos please as you get further into it!!!
Hey mamas. We use GrammarFlip and night zoo keeper in our home for grammar and writing and my kids LOVE. It! Grammar flip teaches grammar in TWO minute videos and then has some practice questions and writing practice. Night zoo keeper is an online writing/language arts program that my kids beg for more time “playing”. Just wanted to pass these great resources on to you all.
You are going to love IEW!! We are supplementing our TGTB language arts next year with it also bc it’s just so much easier to learn how to write this way!
With your high schooler do you have to worry about high school credits so he can get a diploma? Does your state require like 4 science, 4 history, 4 English, 4 math, x amount of electives, etc. ? My daughter & I decided to repeat 7th grade because she wasn’t even trying because of the bullies in school. I spent 3 months educating myself on what and how to do it. Then ordered, sent back, ordered more, sent some back & ordered again before we found what we liked. And thank you! You helped a lot! We are going to start 8th grade this year. I’m terrified of high school being a new homeschool moma. Thankfully my state is one of the 7 I believe most lenient states in the country. They don’t care what we teach ours. We just have to fill out a one sided form stating we are homeschooling them and it asks what we are going to teach. Some momas put just the grade like 8th grade and that’s it. I do list all the things I’m using. But we aren’t even required to submit an attendance form at all! We are expected to keep up with it but no one ever checks anything. I was shocked at how little they cared. But it is nice to not have to worry. I’m planning on keeping more detailed records for high school and actually gonna require her to do it and I’ll check it if she doesn’t go back. It’s all her choice. I want her to be happy since she has always been in ps up until now. I did tell her when I took her out that there wouldn’t be any going back and it would be a done deal because I wasn’t going to teach common core so she probably wouldn’t be able to test on to the grade level she would want. She was determined and positive she wouldn’t want to go back. But since we’ve gotten her confidence back and she’s doing very well she’s getting bored with me & says she misses her friends. Aka the boys in the class and her girl cousin that’s one grade below her or she’s in her grade now. She’s said if she tests in 9th grade where she’s supposed to be with her twin brother or if she tests in one grade lower with her cousin she wants to go back. I’ve told her she will have to deal with those same girls and they might tease her because she failed a grade. She says she doesn’t care what they say or think. But if she tests in 7th grade that she only went till December in the ps in that grade that she will continue homeschool. She said it’s too embarrassing to look like she failed 2 grades. The man at the superintendents office that does the testing told me they give them a list of words to read. He said she needs to go slow and be sure of it before she says it because once she says it out loud he has to take the first word she says even if she ends up getting it right after. Once they miss 3 words he has to stop and count how many they get right. That will tell him where she should be as far as English goes. If she scores in 8th or 9th he will test her for math based on where she scored. If she scores in 7th that’s the math test she will get. If she scores in math on an 8th grade level then he will test her for reading comprehension. She will get a couple of sentences to a paragraph and have to answer the questions for each. He said most questions have 2 right answers. So it’s harder to miss them. If she scores on an 8th grade level that’s where he will recommend she goes. If she scores 9th grade on all that’s where she goes. And 7th. But if she scores on a 6th or below he won’t test her on math or comprehension because she’s already completed those grades and she will just go back to 7th grade. They have levels they can’t go below once they’ve completed that grade. They are 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th & 9th. If they are pulled out to homeschool and return they are tested but can’t be put back into a grade lower than what they have passed. It’s like once they hit those grades they can’t be put any lower than those grades. I have no idea why they do it that way but I know one thing he said is they don’t want to discourage a child so much so that they give up and feel discouraged. So 7th grade is as low as she can go. I pray she stays home with me. I feel like in my heart she will do so much better and learn so much more at home. She has always just barely passed each year and I’ve been a nervous wreck along with her teachers. I’ve been to so many teachers meetings with me & the teachers trying to keep her going throughout the years. She was convinced before she started 5th grade it was going to be too hard and she would never pass so she never even tried! It took me & the teacher dragging her thru that year. It was awful! But she had gone from the elementary building to the transition building where they have just the 5th & 6th grade and they change classes for the first time just 4 times a day. The main subjects. She doesn’t handle change well at all. And high school is a huge change! I just pray God leads us thru this. I’m so worried about her!
I absolutely LOVE this video!! We used Fix It Grammar for the first time this year with my 8th grader and we LOVED it..so to the point and get it done!! I just ordered and received the Structure and Style for next year for my oldest and Bible Heroes for my 3rd and 4th grader next year!! I’m so beyond excited!! I feel like this will improve writing skills without it being redundant and boring!! AND I also felt like I could sit in with my oldest and the video lessons and pass on that knowledge to my youngest two doing the Bible Heroes. ☺️
The updated fix it grammar 💗💗💗 I used to count and tell my daughter how many of each there were, this will save so much time!! Thank you for sharing (I know I'm way behind on videos, I was taking a break from RUclips but now I'm catching up!>
@@SimplyLivingIt Miss E (my 11 year old) is doing Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales (I'm teaching her) right now! And Fix It Grammar 3. She's doing GREAT! Next year she will take a class in town with a former teacher, and do US History Writing Lessons or Medieval. I'll combine her and my 9 year old on Fix It Grammar level 2. But I'm trying to decide what to do for my 9 year old.... combine him with my almost 7 year old next year, or do Style and Structure 1A on his own with video lessons.
Yep going to need flip Throughs of all of those. I had already to cited to do that IEW writing through geography which I believe is similar to the Bible heroes. But a friend of mine just started fix it grammar and loves it and I think my son would really benefit from this
Thanks! Are you Using this as your Only LA? Can’t quite get a grasp if it is mostly creative type writing or does grammar, handwriting (which would just come with writing) …all the things. Seems pricey to not be a miracle product haha
I’m glad you’re liking this! We’ve tried a couple of different things the last few years for language arts, and I’ve been thinking about doing IEW with my kids next year. We used Fix It this year and I am loving it. Simple way to learn grammar and isn’t overwhelming.
We are using fix it grammar and loving it!! Very excited to see how your 3rd grader like IEW bc we are thinking of doing it too but haven’t made the jump yet. We need writing help and a good foundation.
I'm not even done with this video and I have a window open putting fix it grammar in my cart now. A friend recently highly recommended the IEW phonetic zoo to me, and I didn't realize it was part of an incremental program. I've stalled out with first Master Books and then GBLA for all of my kids. Like you, I prefer to have my kids in the same type of program. LOVE the video aspect. THANK YOU for sharing.
Thank you, thank you for this video. I have 2 girls who are in 8th and 7th grade. I am looking for a curriculum for when they enter 8th and 9th grade. You have convinced me! Love your videos
Love Fix It Grammar!! I recommend it to everyone! My daughter was so far behind when we first started it and she gained so much from this! And my youngest tested 6 grade levels higher in grammar and sentence structure after using it for one year. No joke - he was in 3rd grade and tested at a 9th grade level! My kids tried the 3 week trial of structure & style and didnt care for it though unfortunately. 😕
I'm really excited to try this writing curriculum. I showed my boys a sample video and they are excited to try it too! My boys are 11 and 9. They hate writing so much. I hope this will help. We are going to try doing it all together. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Looking at the same course for my 6th grade boy next fall. Andrew Pudewa seems like he knows how to keep kids interest and teach boys well! We did a sample lesson and my son was laughing while doing an outline...winner!
My daughter hates studying, she and I are extremely frustrated with learning English, her learning style is kinesthetic. We already have several resumes and unfortunately we have not made progress. I will go deeper in knowing this curriculum which you mention in your video. Thank you for sharing your opinion and experience.
We are going to try IEW structure and style for my third grader, will be 4th grade next year. She just has a really tough time writing a correct sentence let alone a paragraph or essay. I hope this helps!
We are looking into IEW for my 7th grader--she's needing a little bit more help then what our current curriculum is doing so fingers crossed! 🤞🤞 If it works for her, I may switch the rest of my kids.... So excited to see how it works for you all! Keep us updated!
I have looked at IEW before and saw so many reviews that it was crazy overwhelming, so I haven't jumped on board yet. I am curious what language arts curriculum you are replacing with this? And do you continue to do the language arts and writing projects with GR? We use GR also, but have been adding on Easy Peasy language arts and reading. I can't decide if I love it for my older boys, and I think I would like to have a more in depth. And videos sound AMAZING! My oldest 2 are similar in age to your older two, so I appreciate your insight!
So, are you still going to incorporate TGTB and MB? We just switched my teens from TGTB to writing strands, everyone is SO loving the shorter lessons and learning grammar when needed through the exercises. I have looked at IEW but I was always concerned the length of the videos would scare my teens off.
Hi Jamie I hope you are able to answer my question! ☺️ Is S&S 100 percent able to be done by the child or is parent involvement needed? Also is S&S similar to Writing Strands from MB? Thanks friend for all your insight!
Hey there! So far, S&S has been independent for my boys. Again, we are 2 weeks in so that may change?! I will keep you all updated as I can. So far, they have done it one their own. My 3rd grader, he does require help which is to be expected! ❤️
I have been torn with what to do with my two almost sixth graders. They are not strong writers. One is using tgtb and an outschool iew class. and the other has been using eiw. I was thinking about trying the new fix it grammar and iew writing for both of them next year. If I recall correctly, iew covers vocab, spelling, and grammar. Do you feel iew and fix it is a full language arts curriculum? We read a ton of books with our together subjects with Layers of Learning.
VERY interested in everyone’s thoughts on where to start my 8th grader in the Fix It Grammar. I have a 3rd grader and an 8th grader. I’ve heard it’s more of a level number and not grade and needs to be completed in order…
@@annemorph, I think if you read on the website it says that you can start at level 3 for older kids. (It might be level 2, but I’m almost positive it’s level 3 if you’re talking about someone with grammar lessons say in 7th or 8th grade type of deal.)
Love this sneak peak! It makes IEW seem doable! And love the encouragement of independence and accountability. Will you be using IEW and Gather ‘Round at the same time? We’re currently using CLE and Gather ‘Round but sometimes it seems like too much. And I know I can totally just skip things, but then I get in my own head and want to complete everything - especially since we paid for it lol. But I know that it isn’t about finishing every problem or page.
Did you have to take a training course or a how to teach iew course before starting? I looked into IEW a few months ago and as a new homeschooling mama it looked so overwhelming and I had no idea where to start. When I ask for help someone mentioned having to take a course to be certified to teach it to your kids. That made me even more nervous. I loved writing in school but all 4 of my kids seem to hate it and have no interest in learning about the writing process. 💔 I really want to find something that will change that.
No! I did not have to take a course! They do have a video for the younger grades they mention having you watch but I didn't and I don't plan on watching it! In the early stages of homeschooling I would have probably been overwhelmed by all this too! Well, I was! By everything, actually! But now, it fits! It works! It is time! Take a deep breath mama! ❤️🤗 Know that there are a million options out there and YOU GET TO CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT TO USE! Please don't ever feel pressed by anything I share. These are simply decisions we have made for our home. You will find your groove. ❤️🤗🤗
@@SimplyLivingIt Thank you. I don't plan on adding anything else this school year because I decided early on this year I wanted to take slow, get to know my kiddos learning styles and get to know my teaching styles. I also have been working on figuring out the areas my kids are struggling in. However I will continue to do research on IEW because if it works for us I believe my oldest 2 would benefit from it greatly.
There’s a seminar Andrew Pudewa does that goes over the program and how to teach it but is not a “you must take this” certification or anything. The Structure and Style program has DVDs that you can have your students watch themselves. The theme-based writing books use the same system but assume you have previously done a Stricture and Style course.
I hope you get to answer me. I am sold i have been researching IEW for 2 years and we are ready to start. Can i ask why did you start with level B? Did your wise mamas say level A was not worth it? Please let me know i have no wise mamas around me. Thanks
So many questions. Hahaha - I have a 10yo, 7yo, and 5yo that are being homeschooled. I’ve been interested in fix it grammar, but not sure where to start with levels
Love your excitement and enthusiasm. We recently started IEW Poetry Memorization and I’ve been so impressed. My youngest is only just starting 2nd grade but now curious to check out what else IEW has to offer.
Thank you for this, I'm actually very interested in both of these. I am definitely getting Fix it Grammar. I'm assuming when you order you look for the new edition?
I keep going back and forth for next year. All of my homeschool friends use this. What are you doing for the Reading/English portion? IEW is just language arts correct?
You could look into “novel studies” to cover a lot of the other pieces you will want to fill in for. Progeny Press is a really decent and highly recommended (non-secular, but it wouldn’t be difficult to just skip the religious based portions to make it secular), and there are loads of other truly secular ones you can find online.
@@SimplyLivingIt so still doing tgtb as well? My third grader is doing tgtb currently but I want to move into fix it grammar and maybe try a trial if there is one for IEW. Not sure what book/level to start him at though
I am so curious how the Bible Heroes level goes for you. I’m seriously considering but it does look so overwhelming at first glance. I have such a hard time getting my first grader to write anything down on paper for anything. I’m sure it’s one of those curriculums that once you get the hang of it it goes really smoothly. But I’m so nervous to jump in and have it be another thing we don’t even make it halfway through before we push it aside.
Just wanted to say, we did IEW Bible Heroes this year with my 6 and 7 year old and they loooooooved it. I did get the videos to watch of Andrew Pudewa discussing the first 3 steps (which is all that you will encounter in the Bible Heroes) and it helped me have way more confidence. I bet you could figure it out well enough without it, but I think it helped me to watch his first three videos. I highly recommend trying Bible Heroes!
I've been looking at fix it grammar right now we use grammar galaxy which my son loves but there is very little writing and not a lot of review....been looking at bju english 🤔 but wanna do fix it grammar so bad 🤣 I need about 10 language arts subjects and math and just loop them 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We will be adding IEW for the first time to our 11th year. I'm always adding new things too. We will do Fix it Grammar and Structure and Style. I want to do it together with my 10 and 11 year old. How do you do it together?
We went from Master Books for years LA to Fix it Grammar this year… Wow!!! My kids learned everything I’ve been trying to teach them the last 3 years… all in 10 weeks 😳😳seriously. And they actually like doing it!! So thankful for it…

That's so great to hear, friend! You're probably the first place I ever heard about Fix It! ❤️🤗
We are going to try IEW structure and style for my third grader, will be 4th grade next year. She just has a really tough time writing a correct sentence let alone a paragraph or essay. I hope this helps!
Love the new fix it grammar. We started the level 1 when it came out.
Yes!!! The updated versions are AMAZING!
My 3rd grader is going to do Bible heroes this year also! I’m exited about it :)
Will love to hear your thoughts in the future! That Bible heroes intrigued me!
Can't wait to share more!!!! 🤗
Love that your starting new curriculum halfway through the year and not stressed or bothered by that!! Love that!
❤️❤️❤️
Have you tried My Father’s World? What do you think about it! Would really appreciate your input. Thanks 😊
I have and I loved everything we used. For me personally, it was just too much to add with what we already were set on using.
We are looking into IEW for my 7th grader--she's needing a little bit more help then what our current curriculum is doing so fingers crossed! 🤞🤞 If it works for her, I may switch the rest of my kids.... So excited to see how it works for you all! Keep us updated!
I will keep you updated, friend!
We love IEW & Fix It Grammar 🤗🥰
We made it only a few weeks and now it on the shelf. It just wasn’t easy for me to implement in our busy schedule.
I’m planning on using IEW when mine is older. Excited for you all 🙌
❤️❤️❤️
YES! IEW is the absolute best!
So, are you still going to incorporate TGTB and MB? We just switched my teens from TGTB to writing strands, everyone is SO loving the shorter lessons and learning grammar when needed through the exercises. I have looked at IEW but I was always concerned the length of the videos would scare my teens off.
Would love “a week of writing” next school year once you have settled into it!
We may just have to do that! Thank you for the request! 🤗
This looks great! Thank you!!
We love IEW.
Hi!!! When did you start back?? I've been missing these.
Hey beautiful! I came back about 2 months ago. I took about 3 months off! 🤗 It was SO good! 🙌
@@SimplyLivingIt Love it! I gotta play catch up then. Happy to have ya back!!! 😁
I plan on using the same curriculum for my eighth and sixth grader next year:)
That's awesome!!
Do you add any other components for language arts? Like literature/reading or vocabulary and spelling?
Hey there! It has vocabulary built in but we do Wordly Wise and Evan Mor spelling and love both!
VERY interested in everyone’s thoughts on where to start my 8th grader in the Fix It Grammar. I have a 3rd grader and an 8th grader. I’ve heard it’s more of a level number and not grade and needs to be completed in order…
I'm curious about this too. I usually like to start at the beginning of a program, but have older kids.
Also wondering this! I'm looking at it for next year, and will have an 8th grader.
Yes, we will use both!!!!
We Love IEW! ❤
I hope you get to answer me. I am sold i have been researching IEW for 2 years and we are ready to start. Can i ask why did you start with level B? Did your wise mamas say level A was not worth it? Please let me know i have no wise mamas around me. Thanks
Hey friend! I went with level B because of the ages of my kiddos! If they were younger, I would have gone down a level! ❤️🤗
I feel like you may have mentioned Brave Writer previously… are you going to use that as well?
I sure have! For this season, no. Now that I am prepping for high school(🤪😭), that is my main focus.
So many questions. Hahaha - I have a 10yo, 7yo, and 5yo that are being homeschooled. I’ve been interested in fix it grammar, but not sure where to start with levels
When in doubt, start at book 1! That's what we did. ❤️
Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it, but can you please tell me what writing curriculum you are switching from? ❤️
Writing Strands from MB
Love your excitement and enthusiasm. We recently started IEW Poetry Memorization and I’ve been so impressed. My youngest is only just starting 2nd grade but now curious to check out what else IEW has to offer.
Thank you for this, I'm actually very interested in both of these. I am definitely getting Fix it Grammar. I'm assuming when you order you look for the new edition?
Yes!!!
@@SimplyLivingIt Thank you 😊
I enjoy your channel!! Been thinking about starting a channel but on the fence about it any advice? Thanks
Go for it, girl!
Will you still be using TGTB for your 3rd grade along with IEW?
Hey there! I haven't decided and finalized all the things for my 3rd grader yet. But, I will share when I do!❤️
I keep going back and forth for next year. All of my homeschool friends use this. What are you doing for the Reading/English portion? IEW is just language arts correct?
Hi friend! I haven't decided on every subject yet. One thing at a time! 😊
So does this completely replace your language arts? Or is this just a writing componenet to add to your language arts curriculum.?
For us, it will complete it!
@@SimplyLivingIt so still doing tgtb as well? My third grader is doing tgtb currently but I want to move into fix it grammar and maybe try a trial if there is one for IEW. Not sure what book/level to start him at though
The new Fix it Grammar looks like my ideal. It was good, and they kind of made it perfect.
YES!!!!
I understand your feeling! I sure do! Been there, mama! I just had to take the leap and do it!
“We all just need to have coffee and talk about it.” ☕️ YES, girl!! 🙌🏼
RIGHT???!!!!! 😃❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've been looking at fix it grammar right now we use grammar galaxy which my son loves but there is very little writing and not a lot of review....been looking at bju english 🤔 but wanna do fix it grammar so bad 🤣 I need about 10 language arts subjects and math and just loop them 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
We will be adding IEW for the first time to our 11th year. I'm always adding new things too. We will do Fix it Grammar and Structure and Style.
I want to do it together with my 10 and 11 year old. How do you do it together?
Doing it together, they are just doing the same lesson at the same time. They watch the video together and fill out their own workbooks!
Wow I’m a subscriber and your videos have not been coming up. So odd, gotta catch up.
Oh that's so weird! I'm sorry!!!! What a bummer!
So there's only a video once a week? Idk why I thought it was with every lesson. That's honestly what has been turning me off to IEW.
So far they have a video Monday and a shorter one on Tuesday.
They never taught like IEW in public school. Lol
SO TRUE!😂
@@SimplyLivingIt I remember thinking why don't they teach this isln schools? Lol
