- Was this one of the best teams ever? Paul Konerko, Mark Buehrle, AJ Pierzynski and more talk about the challenges of winning a World Series and the legacy of their team in ‘05 Forever, presented by @Rate_Official
In order to end 88 years without a World Series title in Chicago, general manager Ken Williams spent the offseason overhauling the roster, trading for speedy outfielder Scott Podsednik, and signing veteran outfielder Jermaine Dye and Japanese second baseman Tadahito Iguchi. During the season, manager Ozzie Guillén guided the White Sox to an American League-best 99 wins. Although Cleveland came within 1.5 games in September, the Sox ultimately went wire-to-wire and clinched the AL Central title on September 29.
Their first matchup in the playoffs: the defending champion Boston Red Sox, who had broken their own championship drought the previous season. Orlando “El Duque” Hernández, who signed with Chicago in the offseason, helped secure the three-game sweep after escaping a bases-loaded, no-out situation in Game 3 of the ALDS.
The ALCS saw history. At a pivotal moment, AJ Pierzynski struck out, but with the ball hitting the dirt, he ran to first base. It was ruled a dropped third strike and Pierzynski was awarded first base. The White Sox rallied in that inning to win the game. It was a controversial call that many believe led to replay review in baseball.
In the same series, Mark Buehrle, José Contreras, Jon Garland and Freddy García threw four straight complete games, a feat that has not been accomplished since, as the White Sox advanced to the World Series.
“We will never see that again.” - Joe Buck, World Series Broadcaster.
The White Sox entered the World Series against the National League Houston Astros. The 2005 team faced Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte and Hall of Famers Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio.
A Paul Konerko grand slam, unlikely home runs from Scott Podsednik and Geoff Blum, Juan Uribe diving into the stands and Bobby Jenks closing out the four-game sweep - these are the moments fans remember forever. Hear the first-hand account and watch behind-the-scenes footage of the team that accomplished it all. ‘05 Forever, a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the 2005 World Series team, drops this summer.

I'm 57 and have been a White Sox fan my entire life, my amazing grandpa made sure of that. He was my hero. When the Sox won it all in '05 I literally cried, I cried because they won, but I mostly cried for my grandpa who loved his White Sox and never got to see them win a World Series. But I know he was up there in heaven stomping and hollering and clapping!
Yall need to make this into a full length movie. I would buy it because that was the happiest year of my life.
Hell yeah. I was like 18 when this happened and just moved to Virginia from Ohio. My mother was sick for years with cancer and I was gone. She ended up passing In July and it was like she was sending me something to be happy about. Like a life raft at the lowest point and I will never forget that feeling.
One of my favorite baseball teams of all time
Definitely one of the best team I have ever seen, perfect combination of pitching and power
20 years wow I feel like 5 years old.
Even as a Cub fan, I was rooting so hard for them. Great team. And people forget Frank was on that team. They lost Hurt and still did it!
Same here, but as a Sox fan I was rooting for you guys in 16
As a Cardinals fan yall are eqaily ny favorite Chicago team and I pray yall stay there forever
Back when being a Sox fan was fun
I was 17 years old, just into the time of life where cynicism starts to take hold. I didn't think they could get it, nevertheless win so convincingly.
It might be greedy, but 2020 and '21 felt like we were on the way again. I want one more.
I was 6 when they won and didn't get into MLB until 06 so I've only seen them win 3 playoff games. With what we have to deal with I wouldn't say your being greedy at all.
what a time to be alive
I wish the 05’ White Sox were more recognizable, they were amazing
Apparently Jerry, living bloodsucking vampire, is looking forward to the glory days of 2105
I'll never forget when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005!!!! I was 17 back then!!!!!
I hope that the White Sox get in on the World Series this year
05 forever.... will be the last championship we see forever!!
Forever.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When is this coming out? They didn't say an actual day just 2025. I was in my prime (20) when they shocked the world. I remember the media had their usual favorites and since the beginning talked down on the Sox and the Sox wire to wire just kept winning. What are we tied with the Yankees best playoff record in modern era only 1 loss. It was meant to be. Man I remember I didn't come home for like 3 days just partied it up
This will be helpful in a couple of years to the people of Nashville in getting to know the history of their new baseball team.
What's with the Nashville crap? they're not spending any public money for a new ballpark
No way mlb let's the white sox leave Chicago, but there r other teams that can move there- tampa, miami
2005 Season Is The Best In White Sox History
85 Bears
This was the most enjoyable championship win
Love documentaries like this.
As an Angels fan, I might have to skip this.
I still cant believe the white sox won a ws,
can one of you become a manager please? Any of you guys will do!
Ok great! But every morning I wake up and don’t have a notification on my phone that Jerry has sold the white Sox, it’s just another bad day. Jerry please sell the team! You obviously can’t compete in today’s game with payroll. Thank you for 2005. But please please please just walk away.
And for 20 years following this season Jerry kept trying to recapture the same lightning in a bottle that lead to a miracle run in 05, only to end up becoming the worst team in baseball. Sell the team Jerry.
The fucking CHICAGO MEDIA ignores this team. It's always Chubs Chubs Chubs...I mean wtf wants to worship a team considered "the lovable losers"?
In fairness Jerry doesn't help them standout. Plus the Cubs kept Wrigley. Even as a Cub fan, I still tear up at Guaranteed whatever. There's no soul there. I miss old Comiskey so badly. It was a magical place to see a ballgame. Chicago's version of Tiger Stadium. It's never been the same for me. But I did root for that 2005 team. They deserved it. The fans earned that win.
Lmfao
@@naturallawman2965them changing it to guaranteed rate was a piss poor move. Atleast the Cell had a little history with the 05 team.
When this coming out????
@ I know not a release date in the trailer or in description it’ll come out and I’ll see it a month later probs. Total shit
Always the past.
"connected forever" and hardly any of them showed up for sox fest on the 20th anniversary of the championship
So is the way they apologize for sucking and making terrible moves for 20 years. Like hey remember when....... SELL THE TEAM!
Ill watch 05 replays on youtube. Sell the team jerry. Not getting my money.
Sell The Team
Absolutely robbed the Angels with some of the worst umpiring we’ve ever seen known to date
