      Was it hard to get it to shift up or down occasionally? This is what I'm going through right now. About 1/3 or 1/4 of the time it won't shift and I have to slow down and eventually it will shift.

      Not trying to roast you but saying you've never had to adjust it doesn't mean anything... unless youve actually been able to loosen the nut and check to make sure that you have one quarter turn of free play you don't know if you've had to adjust it. 99% chance it's not adjusted in the ideal range. You can unseize it with the double nut trick and I highly recommend doing it your machine will shift better

    Good short quick vid that's to the point and explains everything. I have a 2016 Honda 420 Rancher with the manual foot shifter and have had issues with it shifting properly especially during Winter when I use it to plow my driveway. It's been very stiff and hard to shift with the bigger tires so this vid should fix that issue. The only other issue I have is that I lost my left leg above the knee this past Winter and would love to find a manual hand shifter kit whcih would make it easier to shift instead of using my left hand whcih is dangerous. Thanks for the clutch tip.

    Is this the same for a 05 Honda Rancher ES? I adjusted my clutch exactly like this based off a different video and now when I put the bike in reverse it pulled on its own. To my recollection it’s never done this before. When riding it shifts smoothly through all 5 gears with no issues. I went to adjust again and it’s still doing it. I let it out about 3 full rotations and it still does it? I also gave it a full tube up oil change and new spark plug using all OEM parts.

    Question - when I try to break the nut loose the screw turns too. I turned it about a full turn and stopped because I don’t want to break something. If I keep backing the nut out (which is also backing out the screw) will it eventually bottom out and hopefully I can break the nut loose from the screw at that point?

    • @MudPuppyOffroad

  • @SteveTrafton

    Great vid, thank you. What you did was decrease free play, you turned counter clockwise, correct? If you had not enough freeplay, you would turn to the right. My question, if you turn clockwise, will the set screw also meet resistance and then just 1/4 turn CCW?? Many thanks.

    • @MudPuppyOffroad
      @MudPuppyOffroad  11 месяцев назад +2

      I wouldn't think about it as clockwise or counterclockwise because those words are stamped on the case so you can't mess it up. You should look at them. Per the manual, you turn all the way to the decrease arrow direction until resistance is felt. Then 1/4 turn in the opposite direction. After turning all the way to decrease, there is zero free play. If you left it in this condition, the clutches would eventually start to slip and wear out prematurely.

    • @strafto04
      @strafto04 11 месяцев назад

      Ok, so regardless of either too much or too little freeplay, process is done as you describe. I think that’s right…? Just got the machine, all I have is the owner’s manual currently. Thank you for your time!
