I'm totally with Lucy on squirrels being my favorite species. After rescuing two babies myself, I have a huge place in my heart for them. I'm so happy this little guy was ok.
Its an invasive american squirrel that's on the pest control list and is set to be exterminated. Funny watching this video and knowing that the squirrel they rescued has a high probability of being shot.
I wonder what the animals think after they wake up from the anaesthetic, having been in a considerable amount of pain when they drift off then waking up feeling better in a warm place. Maybe they realize you've helped them. Maybe....
I dont know how smart squirrels are but im sure they have feelings and get someone helped them but how could they understand that specific person helped him ? He didnt know why and on what he was stuck, he didnt know what tranquilizers are and he didnt know he was at a vet. But they sure have feeling
Well, of course they know. Why do people always think animals are so stupid? They know what just happened to them and how they got to a clinic in a car in a box, etc. They aren't sure of human intent right off the bat - "am I to be dinner or worse...?" - but once the pain subsides and they've been extricated from whatever bad situation, placed in a warm, soft bed with lots of food, they are capable of figuring out they're safe and secure. I should imagine it's a bit like if one of us was trapped somehow and abruptly rescued by aliens. Language barriers and all that, but intent is easy for all species to read and understand.
Have you ever had surgery? I woke up from surgery when I was 7 and the drugs make you all loopy. He probably thinks it was a nightmare and cant really remember anything but getting stuck and freaking out, then somehow magically waking up in a different place. But at the same time he would be used to the human smells by then (noses dont seem to sleep. lol). So consciously or not, it makes them more comfortable with humans I would guess.
Look at it from the squirrel's perspective going into anesthetic: *sees large blue menacing pincers, slowly starts to drift in and out of consciousness, wakes up a few hours later without a bird feeder stuck in his teeth* :D
Thanks its always nice to help someone out. A few years ago I save one and my vet took look at him, It was amazing I had him for 3-4 days before he could be let go any my vet was amazed i could just pick him up and hold him. He seem to know he was in a safe place and i took him back to his home were i had found him. He went up and around a tree looking and must have knew he was home, he came up one last time after a few minutes as to say thanks and then went 50 feet or so up the road and took off deep into the woods. Got a few good photos of him. Life is amazing at times and love and trust comes in all forms of life Thanks for caring
Hey little buddy. This is what human compassion looks like. These women are saints, not to mention they have skills to operate on humans and save lives. It's all about grace under pressure.
Guys, you are simply awesome! Watching this kind of videos help people forget all the hard things in life. Really glad to see good people like you doing this wonderful things. Hats off to you. :)
I know this was posted a few years ago but bless you guys.........The relief I felt when you got him free and saw he was not baldy injured. I can only imagine how happy you guys were. Am so glad the little bugger was ok.........I love squiggles.....They have such big personalities.
This video is 100% the reason my first bird feeder I just got is squirrel friendly. I want them to be able to feed freely without hurting themselves. Actually found a little guy sitting inside it nibbling away (the top can be easily shoved off so no one gets trapped) It is also very large with zero tight spaces. basically just a big wooden box with plastic to see through and a small crack to dispense seed to small birds. My squirrels love it
I live in Ontario Canada and I have been feeding the squirrels in the park across the street for two Winter/Springs now. Last winter the cold and the snowfall set records and they could not reach their food source because the snow was so deep. Then last spring we had a severe wind/lightning/hail storm that did severe damage to several of the mature walnut trees. Some had to be cut down. The end result was that they did not produce walnuts, so again the major source of food was gone. I give them mostly peanuts in the shell and found that I could stick them in the cracks of the old and thick bark, allowing them access to food in the severe cold while avoiding predators. They also get black oil sunflower seeds, cracked corn, suet and oat groats. I never ever give them bread because it only provides empty calories. Like this woman in the video, I adore these little guys and enjoy watching from a distance after I have put out food for them.
Poor little guy! What a horrible, terrifying situation for him. You guys do such amazing work in "small" ways like this...which, of course isn't so small, especially for this little Dude.
it's easy to break things, but fixing them is hard. I like watching these videos and imagining the relief the animals feel once they are out of their misery. Brings me back to when I was a child and put into what felt to me like life or death situations. When I was finally clear nothing felt better; the air smelled different, I felt so free. It's probably what they feel as well :)
Ok I love you guys you guys are the best I love this so much like watching you help animals warms my heart because I wanna be there for animals but I can't but once I took care of a possum and when I grow up I'm gonna be like you guys you have a knew subscribed this is just amazing what you guys do this is great
@@jamesrichardson771 I’m with you. They are not “cute”. They are pests that do considerable damage to homes, gardens and bird feeders. I thought the title meant that a squirrel died. That’s the only reason I watched it.
For the first three to five years after I moved to a new town, we had a very large, very, very male fox squirrel who would hang out at our place whenever he wasn't roving the entire block. He was a delight to see. A few years back, our neighbors had a plump female addicted to their bird feeder. I called her Bertha. She quite obviously had a full drey somewhere, but she never lost that belly.
This moment when it woke up remembered me of my cat waking up after she broke her leg. I was laying next to her all day. She's fine now and I hope that little squirrel, too.
i love him. what a sweet story! poor little guy. mouth wounds hurt...the look on his face when he opened his eyes. he was sure he died and went to squirrel heaven with all those yummy fruits and nuts circling him! wow wee!
Really great to see a channel publicising their work with wildlife and educating the public. Your videos are proving to be a great resource for college wildlife assignments. Quick question though, with the grey squirrel being invasive how did you get around releasing one legally?
Lucky chap probably woke up in the carrier next to those treats thinking he had gone to Heaven! What a sweet story. Bless you all.

Yes.

Must be hell to see all those peanuts you can never eat :/

I just love the joy these people feel when they rescue an animal successfully.
Love that when you say he's a big man you give visual proof!
😂😂
haha I'd have gone and said "sorry mam, we had to put the bird feeder down. The squirrel is fine though"
Unfortunately, the bird feeder just didnt make it

A very well endowed British squirrel, how cute.

Catmunism The least they could have done is to take two nuts in payment for freeing it from that feeder.

I like that the video is not only about rescuing a squirrel, but also teaching us about not feeding peanuts to birds.
Lucy - I've watched all the episodes and, for a vet nurse, you are absolutely amazing. You should have studied to be a vet.
