And he has to deal with laughter that varies in length, which he can't talk over, so he has to speed up when laughter lasts longer, and slow it down when a laugh doesn't arrive...
The only thing I'd quibble with is the 'one of...' He was arguably the best. There's a still a lot of great comedy around today. But nothing is coming within a country mile of this.
steve FromEngland, now there are 20 Phuckwits looking/wanting something for zero instead appreciating true genius when they see or hear it! Cheers mate, John, Australia.
No. No mistake; the thumbs down are from the hairy legs brigade most certainly offended by the comments on the horse race. Can we include them in the cancel list ? (The Hairy Legs Brigade, not the comments. 😂).
Must have been so difficult to edit back then, all with physical film manually making copies and cutting the copies to desired length and attached them to the rest of the stream.
Comedy genius! As always it’s brilliant timing and such passion! These qualities is why they were all class and comedy successes we should show this to the next generation 👏👏👏👏✅✅
As I get older, I appreciate the two of them more and more - although a child at the time, I did not think them particularly funny when they were on television!
0:30 - Ronnie here made up to look quite a bit like the wonderful Dickie Davies, the anchor of ITV's World of Sport back then, the ITV rival of the BBC Grandstand.
Easy enough to do nowadays but back then that would have meant splicing together bits of film footage or video tape and working everything out with Ronnie Barker's perfect comic timing. I don't know if they were the first to do this (Monty Python/Gilliam ?) but Barker was well ahead of his time....
This was one time when the Ronnie Barker had to discuss writing this type of sketch with the BBC production team, as he could only work out this sketch if he knew what clips he can use to commentate over. So there had to be working together between the BBC film department and Ronnie Barker just to produce this 4 minute routine for one of their shows. Amazing.
@@johnking5174 I wonder if getting the wrestling clips was a problem. I think it was only shown on ITV at the time. It looks like they got some old black and white footage from somewhere.
I remember doing a similar sketch at school - from a romantic comedy to all-in wrestling to the boat race - "darling, I love you" - they're on the floor now - In out in out . I wonder if this will be removed.
Moose immediately after saying they’re off he said coming fast on the inside lol. Being that every word is purposefully written and how clever these guys were I’m sure he meant what I think he meant.
Ronnie Barker done an identical sketch using ITV sports coverage with Christopher Timothy playing the production assistant 3 years EARLIER in 1970 on his show, Hark at Barker.
His delivery never fails to impress me, never faltered or tripped over a line. An absolute genius.
Never falled or triptered
And he has to deal with laughter that varies in length, which he can't talk over, so he has to speed up when laughter lasts longer, and slow it down when a laugh doesn't arrive...
You will never - ever - get comedy like this again. Fantastic stuff.
Pure genius, an not a slip u in place. His timing an concentration was amazing.
Nice to c Sally (Tiswas) as his feed.
Ronnie Barker - one of the most talented comedians of all time. And he remained so humble to the end.
Absolutely true. A true gentleman.
The only thing I'd quibble with is the 'one of...' He was arguably the best. There's a still a lot of great comedy around today. But nothing is coming within a country mile of this.
Sally James, two of the most.. yes well you know..
Interestingly though Ronnie B never viewed himself as a comedian but rather a comedy actor
Even in 2023, it's still hilarious, some sketches never get old, they get funnier.
They transcend time, if done rite...
Absolutely brilliant.
How fortunate we all are to have had Ronnie Barker in our lifetime. I love finding a video of the 2R I haven't seen before.
Been a Two Ronnies fan all my life - how am I only seeing this gem now?!
It's amazing how they came out with such comical innuendos
A true Genius of a Man.....May he rest in peace 🙏
What a performance .. sheer genius
Bloody hell........we miss you Barker!!!!!
Just brilliant! What has happened to us as a society?
I may be able to get into watching sports if were to ever become like this.
I wish all sports commentaries were like this XD
+John Hallman Me too.
"She's wearing those frilly lace panties we've all become so familiar with. And they're off! THEY'RE OFF!"
You can't beat that. Absolute classic...What do the 3 thumbs down want for their money?
steve FromEngland, now there are 20 Phuckwits looking/wanting something for zero instead appreciating true genius when they see or hear it!
Cheers mate, John, Australia.
it was a forward somersault not backwards
the 3 thumbs down probably want them off
Have pity. Perhaps they were laughing so loud they hit the thumbs down button by mistake.... if not...what were they thinking?
No. No mistake; the thumbs down are from the hairy legs brigade most certainly offended by the comments on the horse race.
Can we include them in the cancel list ? (The Hairy Legs Brigade, not the comments. 😂).
i haven't cried with laughter soo much!!!!!!!
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Must have been so difficult to edit back then, all with physical film manually making copies and cutting the copies to desired length and attached them to the rest of the stream.
This exactly what I was thinking about while watching the sketch 😅
The 2 RR’s were the best of the best, absolutely brilliant.
Wonderful writing & performance - so good to see this again.
This is one of the funniest 2 Ronnie's sketches I've seen.
"Wonderful little woman, this Mrs King, formerly known of course as...the Queen!"
😂🤣
"... wearing those frilly lace panties... they're off, they're off!"
I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry.
I’m in stitches, that’s the funniest line ever 🤣
Never seen this. Bloody marvelous!
Comedy genius! As always it’s brilliant timing and such passion!

“And they’re off!” Brilliant!
What a brilliant piece... So smartly done
"....and Billie Jean King goes on to meet...the Hooded Strangler!"
That was pure genius. Very, very beautifully put together.
I remember watching this show on sunday nights.they followed Dr.who then Dave Allen.no tv like this anymore.
The man was a complete genius so funny he only had to look at the camera. The best ever comedian when he retired there was a vacuum on the TV.
Utterly brilliant. A bygone era and lexical skill of the likes we'll never see again.
Incredible! So many sketches I haven't seen before and each one a delight. Thanks for upload.
That is bloody hilarious. That is what i call REAL comedy
Absolute genius.
That was insane, but that was fantastic.😂😂😂
0:30 - Ronnie here made up to look quite a bit like the wonderful Dickie Davies, the anchor of ITV's World of Sport back then, the ITV rival of the BBC Grandstand.
How? Just how the heck did he do it. OMG! Totally totally amazing!
Glad got plenty of these of VHS & DVD. Not this classic though! (Cheers ;-))
PURE GENIUS. Massive well done. Well before the technology of today too
RIP to you both.

Jason Note
And it's a goodnight from me and a goodnight from him.
Love
Brilliant - how he could time all that so perfectly.
This is 😂awesome.
So many of the 2 ronnie's sketches were like this....mastermind comes to mind
Imagine sitting down to watch the football and seeing this.
Brilliant
This is brilliant commentary and being able to improvise from sport to sport.
+Bluesdirections It was probably rehearsed but made to seem like an improvisation. Nonetheless it's still really well made.
It wasn't improvisation, it was scripted, albeit quite beautifully.
Drive Easy Ronnie was known to be able to do this sort of stuff in one take, so that wonderful intensity comes from his undoubtedly huge skill
Brilliant! And damn, Lillee had a beautiful action...
Partly why Lillie was so devastating! He looked so gracefull , yet often the ball arrived around 100 miles an hour!
Brilliant! They are so clever. This is so funny.❤❤❤😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sally James... ooohhh.... nurse! The screens! And quickly!
Genius. I've not seen this one before, maybe his best.
Blimey that's Sally James at the start.
God I'm in tears haha, on the throne as well!
I'm wiping away tears of laughter!

@@postscript67 Not really a problem if the clips were around 2 or 3 years old, as the older the clips, the easy for them to use.
The world best commentator

"Myra was trained by the great Peggy Spencer, and ridden by..." 😂
Typical Ronnie Barker writing.
Amazing improvisation.
Priceless.
I got tears watching.
brilliant stuff Ronnie Barber is one of the comedy greats RIP
BARKER!
Brilliant! Good goal by Chivers. 40 yarder.
Here we see her wearing those frilly lace panties........and they´re off !! Genius !!!!!
Moose immediately after saying they’re off he said coming fast on the inside lol. Being that every word is purposefully written and how clever these guys were I’m sure he meant what I think he meant.
kipperrd kipperrd Z
Brilliant, good clean fun!
Next new addition of the Oxford dictionary under Comedy: meaning, must read The two Ronnies.
Amazing
Wow, how good was that!!
aBSOLUTE CLASSIC!
omg..i get addicted to this ronnies fella
I can see this happening in real life and people piecing together the puzzle like this
Absolutely well done!!
Funny just saw Kane score against Wolves and saw this. 21.8.2022
That was seriously clever. Amazing.
Genius, utter genius.
Laughed out loud!!
So so funny...nearly wet myself laughing!!

Lovely stuff.
Hilarious!🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
omg that was amazing!
Ha ha literally made me wet myself. "Billie Jean King known formely of course as the Queen."😅😅
"Its number 14, no its number 17". 😅😅
Incredible sketch
sooooo clever
Rip to you both
Now I'm imagining someone doing sports commentary on a RUclips poop
Magnificent
Hysterical!
they are sooo good
A pre-TISWAS SallyJames at the start of the sketch. She appeared in several small-parts roles in Two Ronnies episodes at this time.
Incredibly clever.
He had a talent for commentary too it would seem
Brilliant- who else but RB could pull this off?
They're playing Calvinball.
Couldn't have been Calvinball. You spotted the rules.
Sally James.
This would test the Walker-King
I can't help but wonder how confused would the radio listeners be if this happen..
3:06 "frilly lace panties..AND THEY'RE OFF"🤣🤣

Ronnie Barker-Pure Genius!!
Brrilliant :)
