Dante's mom giving the advice to ask any question is such a great outlook. It's always important to ask questions, even if they seem odd. Being inquisitive and asking dumb questions is 1000x better than being confused and not putting your hand up. Teachers need to get better at dealing with the odd questions. I wish I had a teacher who would research my odd question and give me an answer, and inspire inquisitiveness. That's how you instill passion and interest in students, and how some of the greatest minds are formed. Nobody is born knowing everything!
Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're genuinely curious.

The only teacher who would do this was my physics teacher who I still regard as one of my favorite and best teachers. He knew I did jackshit in school and still passed, so he answered my questions and kept me engaged with more challenging work. If it took a long time explaining he told me to stay after the lesson so others would still get the lesson they needed. He made me want to study physics sadly I had to dropout due to crippling disease.

At a certain point (~16 minutes) Dantes acknowledges that his attempts at self-actualisation are futile (its a never-ending pursuit of improvement, you can never actually be the best), and refers to this as an "issue" in terms of reaching his end goals. He mentions this directly after talking about how everything is temporary and constantly changing, which is a motivation to keep improving because otherwise the world would change around him while he would "stay the same". But then, he doesn't seem to acknowledge that his own performance gains are equally temporary and will inevitably decline. Probably more concerningly, He doesn't seem to recognize that not only is this constant pursuit unnecessary to achieve his true end-goals (kids, family, friends - the things that would ideally make him happy), but actually harmful to it - because he feels it's necessary to alienate himself from others (family, relationships, even interactions with those wanting his interactions) in order to succeed in his endless "progression". It's all stemming from a deeply ingrained insecurity that he has at this point far surpassed, but the residual anxiety it left behind still festers enough to produce this worldview of constantly needing to know that IF he were being judged, hes already likely to be his own worst critic.
The basal question - If you can never be the best, and if you have to constantly improve to be the best or else the world will surpass you, when will you ever reach the point that you say "okay, thats enough, now I can stop sacrificing my opportunities for happiness"?

In this case yes, most people wouldn't be on league for 10 hours per day. Lifting is a great way to meet people, same with literally anything other than being on your PC. Secular to hardcore gamers, I agree. But, I ask what is the purpose of self actualization? Where is the benefit if not in the journey itself? If one desires self actualization, yet forgoes everything immediate for these goals, is he truly on the path to self actualization?
Food for thought, extended beyond current context

He seems to have a timeline and goals set up. Hes in his twenties and wants to be in a exteemly convenient position in his early thirties it doesnt matter if hes already surpassed his financial goals at this point its more about starting his other goals when he feels more confortable to do so? Why rush a young man best do things at your own pace and take your goals seriously while youre at it. What do you mean by self-actualizing and what does it have to do with forgoing happiness?

Hopefully he is wise enough when he reaches that stage to recognize everything has an end and the grinding needs to stop so he can cherish life.
What I am mostly curious about is how you would réconciliate the idea that everything is temporary and yet try to improve. Why improve if it will dissipate. Especially if you alienate yourself in the grind, i.e you don't enjoy the process. Because I am sure things are worth doing. And I am also sure they are temporary and will fade away even in my soul. Yet there is this irrepressible and continuous urge to keep doing them (which I think is what some refer to as an instinct).

    • @AwesomeGuy696
      @AwesomeGuy696 3 месяца назад

@@dooday1 So i approach this from the basis of want. Ultimately we have our needs met, but why do we eat the foods we prefer? Simple preference, with this in tow would you rather trend toward stagnancy or would you prefer a little spice here and there? The spice takes form in our wants, built through natural stressors into motivation.
However, when approached with the question "What's the point?" I rely on two answers. One being my religious, now agnostic, background. The second being what you reference, instinct. A large part of me wants to fuck the world with both hands, so even if the universe becomes purely a black hole in another 14 trillion years, I'll be out here lifting weights to entertain simple fantasies.
On the other hand, my spiritual side says this is just another stone in a pond we are unable to conceive. These thoughts derive from questions of consciousness, where it goes upon death, what comprises sentience, alongside an interest in ghosts and potential realms beyond. Meditative practices led me to believe in whatever entities inhabit the spaces between our senses.

I get it now looking back. I didnt understand at first, it seemed like dantes didnt need the therapy cause too self aware. But dantes was so self aware to the point of blindness. Over intellectualizing, too much logics, mind, not being in the feelings. That's what Dr K was trying to get dantes to: Get out of your head go into your heart.

Its a "self defense" mechanism (overthinking and self reflecting) to make it so no one can ever hurt you and you can never hurt yourself because your beliefs are just and and you're being the best person you can possibly be. To be prepared for absolutely anything that comes your way. Its like Ive also spent hours thinking not being able to sleep because I haven't thought through every step I took that day and if it was the right thing and what I can do better to work on myself. Its like after winning any argument or anything going wrong in my life was in some way my fault even if "it wasnt" because I could see the fault in myself and around the situation itself. Its like building new relationships with people on the regular growing up because my family was constantly moving made it possible to see certain parts of other people and myself that in turn made me in to the kind of person who is never perfect because I can see the flaws in myself as-well. Its like a day not working on myself is seeing a loss in myself reminding myself that everything can be lost in a moment and will be lost in a moment if I don't change just like everything in the past was lost in an instant. Its like any version of myself in the past is someone that I hate and every version of me in the future will never be enough and Its like I know exactly how it feels.

It's not just a self defense mechanism, he seems to have OCD.
      1) Need for control
      2) Ruminating over thoughts (compulsion)
      3) Violent/degenerate intrusive thoughts (obsession)
      4) Need to get up and walk to talk about certain things (compulsion)
I say this because I have OCD myself. And I'm not just trying to be "just like him fr", as a matter of fact I was convinced he didn't have OCD until he mentioned the rumination and needing to stand up to talk. That's when things clicked.

Drugs and alcohol are fine in moderation, depending on the drug obviously. Don't take Dante's fear of loss of control as a moral lesson, he doesn't do it because it's right or proper, but because they scare him.
If avoiding drugs and alcohol is what is best for you, that's cool, but it should be an active choice made in the pursuit of something, be it your health or something else, not because you're avoiding something.

Loved hearing this and reflecting on myself as well throughout my life. I'm 7 years older than you @Doaenel but I've gotten through the trauma of my early 20's thankfully at this point. One very important thing I'd like to suggest (and this is coming from a nobody, probably much less successful and less controlled stranger on the internet who couldn't even dream of having a conversation with a semi-celebrity) is it's very good to give yourself more experiences. It's kinda like, if the square block doesn't fit in the circle hole then find a block that does you know? Maybe you've never even seen the circle block though. Are you gonna wear a blindfold and not look for it? Or maybe force that square block into the hole till its mangled up enough to go? You can't know what you don't know basically and the only way you will learn is when you place yourself in a different place. I've learned it doesn't even have to be an uncomfortable place either, just something different or new, cuz that brings on more new things and new reflections. It also brings on different drives and excitement and that can change you or make you feel different as well. It can even bring you down a path that becomes the right one to get through the road that we don't want to travel on. For relationships, I think this was what finally got me success there. I marry in February next year and life is now nothing like I thought I'd ever achieve. Also patience is a good thing to have, but infinite patience is not. I honestly think as long as you are comfortable with finances the way they are, or aren't aiming to quit entirely by a set date or set amount of money, then streaming less and shrinking those numbers a bit would do you no harm so that you can take time to feel better and fulfill your own dreams. Don't be a thing for people on the internet, because 99% of us do not matter at the end of the day, and you do. I think you agree that none of us are really the end goal. Everyone has to have some amount of self-importance so that they are able to help others. It doesn't work the other way around unfortunately. Thanks for sharing, I think you've got a lot of guts to be open like that. I've got a completely different perspective on who you are now compared to the online façade that people portray you as. I look forward to watching you some more and even continuing to work on myself vicariously through you.

Dantes says that his ultimate goal is marrying and starting a family, but makes it clear that in his day to day he makes no effort to forward that goal outside of his financial gain. He mentions that one of the positives of streaming for him is being able to lighten up people’s days, but does not once mention his desire to improve a community or any notions of morality. Dantes calls himself insecure, but spends every single day looking at himself in the mirror and thinking about himself and his actions. He thinks that his sigma grindset will make him more desirable to others, but in reality, he will always struggle with relationships bc this narrative he tells himself about desirability is a fallacy. The key to authentic and genuine connections is rooted in the question: focusing on other people, not alienating yourself, not lying to yourself about the addictive nature of gaming, and simply putting yourself out there in the real world, not online, having real human experiences.

Funny thing about me watching this VOD of Dantes talking to Dr. K is that I only knew Dantes from popular memes off the internet.
Now after watching some compilation clips, jumping into a live one night and now watching this. I can confidently say I am a supporter of Dantes and I think he is probably one of the most down to earth people I have came across on the internet.
This whole VOD of him talking about his life and then Dr. K giving him some solutions to his current problems helped me to be more introspective of my own life. And whilst we are not the same person (obviously) and we didn't have similar up bringing and family relationships. I can still relate in some certain aspects. Also on top of that, I have learnt and again allowed myself to be introspective of my own life and take away things from this VOD and overall remined me of this life that I live in and reinforced the "It what it is" mentality to keep carrying on and to learn from past mistakes and improve and to become better overall as a person.
TLDR: Didn't know much about Dantes now I do. Learned a lot from VOD. Great stream of Dantes and Dr. K.

I think an important thing about the want for control is that you’re never going to be able to control someone else. As doctor K said everyone has their own truths. And the truth is you’re never going to able to use your truths to figure out someone’s true intentions because everyone’s truths are different. So from my point of view I think the most optimal thing to do in a situation out of your control is to not seek control in the those situations. In some moments you will be much more happier just being, than trying to find control in a situation, that’s a constant chase of something that’s not really possible. You just have to be okay with idea of not being to control every aspect, and just being as I said before. And that’s when I truly feel like you can live in the moment

To avoid doing something, all I have to do is ignore the possibility of future regret. On the other hand, doing something requires overcoming an activation energy, which is usually my fear of failure or judgement. Upon reflection, I realize that overcoming fear is really about accepting the possibility of future regret. It follows then that once I have identified something I want to do, I simply need to accept the possibility of regretting my actions instead of ignoring the regret of inaction. It's easier to follow through when viewed in this way because of the realization that the possibility of regret will be there either way. I've allowed avoiding actions to provide the illusion of control in the past. I need to accept that I don't always have control and that's okay. I should ground my identity in the direction I choose to go rather than attaching myself to my starting point.
To continue to do something, discipline and motivation are required. Discipline and motivation are big words, but they're just that: words. Discipline and motivation will come naturally when you reflect on your actions properly. Take drinking alcohol for example. In the moment, what are the benefits? I would say the primary one is reduced awareness of your fears, resulting in a lower activation energy to partake in group actions, which in turn results in short-term fun and easier social acceptance from fellow drinkers. How about the negatives? Well, you're poisoning your body and damaging your liver. Additionally, the positive I mentioned above becomes a negative in the long-term. You learn to ignore your fears and medicate them with alcohol instead of coming to terms with them... it's just another form of avoidance. It's harder, but you can achieve the same social acceptance without alcohol. I should know... I've been sober for 7 months and lost 60 lbs without changing anything else about my social life.
Creating change is hard, and it's scary because choosing to create change in a bad or unoptimized direction is entirely possible. However, nature demonstrates that change is inevitable, so we must adapt or be left behind. In other words, standing still may provide the illusion of safety, but really it just guarantees that life will run you over. Since inaction cannot give you control over your life, the most important thing is to identify which direction you want to move in. I'm still working out the best way to do that, but I believe that trial and error is a good place to start. It's important to remember that just because you've been going one way, it doesn't prevent you from turning around. Additionally, while there might be bad ways to approach life - like inaction or allowing others to manipulate your path for their own benefit - there also may not be a single best path. Nobody has all the answers; we should appreciate diversity, for we paint the picture of human existence together.

Seriously more people should have easy access to psychiatrists, even if you are not necessarily mental ill. But to some point I think everyone is, and everyone carries his shadows around with himself.
Talking all that stuff off of your shoulders with someone who was trained to do so with you, is just such a great thing. Too bad it´s almost impossible to have a psychiatrists if you are not absolutely insane and really need help asap...

I related so much to the sentiment of "you are a slave to being in control". I tried so hard to trim down the high and lows in my life that I basically flatlined. I was a "stoic", just letting everything phase by, but I got so much happier when I told people that I love them, that they hurt me, that I felt vulnerable. I let people come into my life even if they were uncertain variables and I let them change me, even if they hurt me.

  • @lokehoubo9428

I got too much into my own head and started taking notes, putting it in here if anyone is interested 😅
    Your brain is a painting
Your brain is an ever changing painting of abstract colours smashing into each other.
To keep the mind happy keep the painting beautiful, and change the painting by piercing it with an arrow, splash it with water or envelope it in darkness to then keep painting.
The more outside information you get, the more knowledge you acquire the bigger it gets.
Keeping the painting beautiful and intriguing keeps you happy.
The world and the people in it is an infinitely big painting of all thinkable colours, and some colours you can only get from others, some designs you can’t make yourself, so you have to combine and splash colours onto others and let them touch your art and let them see and feel what you have.
You need to remove the blinds around you so others can see your art and add to it, to make it even more beautiful, hopefully. Being strong and in control is not having big blinds and strong blinds, it’s having few blinds but being okay with the paint going onto your canvas and using their paint to improve the art. All paint can be beautiful.
The art can show as an aura where the closer you get the more it effects you, the stronger the force the more you’re pushed.
Colours is not even enough and other art has to be combined like sounds to even further enchance the aura.

I’m an insecure person and I always find ways to rationalize why I’m better than every successful person I see despite having achieved far less in my life. When I see Dantes, this young dude who has accomplished so much and never stops giving everything his all and is so open and vulnerable about how he got here it just paints an undeniable picture of someone who is better than me in every single way. It makes me realize that he’s put in more hours and work into his goals and taken everything more seriously than I ever have. It makes me realize it is obvious that I am worse than him because I have never really worked hard at anything consistently in my life. It makes me want to change and work as hard as I can to achieve what I can with my remaining time in life. His perspective and mindset is like a beacon that makes one want to follow in his footsteps.

No, don't do that. You see his problem is compensating emotional hurt and emptiness with work and achievments. Yes work towards your goals, work hard but let yourself be vulnerable. As the doctor said, there is an alternative universe with fat Dantes who is happy and fullfilled (even though he isn't as successfull). Achieving your goals and working hard won't necessarily fullfill you.
