8:58 Given that 2022 marks the centenary of the BBC and 2023 marks the 70th anniversary of the first BBC ident, there is a chance we could see these idents again. Great episode, Adam! Nice to see the old Ident Review font again! By the way, if you go to the idents page on the History of the BBC website, you can see a clip of some in-vision continuity for BBC TV from the early 1950s. It includes the earliest surviving weather forecast from the BBC archive, a Bat's Wings clock and even a musical version of the Bat's Wings!
Great as always, Martyn! This episode was interesting, yet it's brilliant indeed. Those monochrome idents from the 1950s to 60s era of BBC Television/BBC 1 are interesting to look at. My favourite ident for BBC 1 would probably be the 1966 ident (being The Watch Strap one).
The globe #2 looks like a washing machine, and in the second watch strap variant the globe looks like the moon with the lack of border. Thanks for a look at some history 👍🏻
It’s episode 91 now. This actually makes me scared, because Adam ended TSCU after 100 episodes. I certainly hope TIR sticks around, and he doesn’t move to Doctor Who content full time.
It'd be interesting if a modern version of one of the globe idents was made with the logo laid out similarly to now. BBC on the top of the screen, and One on the bottom of the screen as there's plenty of room to allow for that.
Hmm just looked at the present BBC branding and it looks really similar to what was used on the watch strap idents. The BBC lettering with the gaps between! How much money was spent by the BBC to come up with the 2022 idents? Who thinks the BEEB should be made to reuse their older idents instead of shelling out millions on expensive re-branding. Just re-shoot the mechanical models in 1080P as a training exercise for inexperienced camera operators as a way of teaching new tech ....job done.

Golden opportunity right there
I agree with Adam Martyn. The 1966 version was the best of the monochrome times.
The first ident I think is amazing and with infamous Quatermass 2 announcement, just makes jt foreboding yet beautiful
Couldn't agree more Lyndsey! A wonderful design!
Have you heard the lullaby like medely that accompanied it, it makes it even more beautiful!
Thank you adam!
Some of the mechanical machines used to create some old idents are displayed by the lifts in Old Broadcasting House.

I agree.
This video was brilliant. I love these old idents. Honestly I really like the second watch strap ident, it feels really ominous, I love it
Never expected another Ident Review so early! Thank you Adam!!
It would have come out later, but due to delivery delays on the new NOW albums, it took the slot!
@@AdamMartyn I understand, still a great surprise, thank you!
Must not forget that the batwing was made by abram games, who also did posters during ww2
And also many advertisements of the day, truly a talented designer!
@@AdamMartyn the bat wings are to me a comin factor of bbc 1953
So interesting looking at these idents. Way before my time, but Adam Martyn is so good at describing them.
Great video, and I really like your modern recreation of the idents at the end!
Another great video and with educational content on the BBC
And oh yes, people HATED the bat wings I remember..
When I saw the ident from 1963 was almost expecting the original DOCTOR WHO theme to start
The Map ident is probably a blueprint for the Computer Originated World (C.O.W) ident
I love the batwing!

Washing machine. LOL.
Glad to see this back again. Any plans on doing a review on the Sombre Idents from BBC and ITV?
The Sombre idents? Which ones do you mean? 🤔 drop me a link to them and I'll check them out!

I really enjoyed this. It was like a pocket of history 🥰 Also, I'd love to see the BBC bring these idents back in a new way!
I would love that too! Fingers crossed the BBC do for their 100th birthday next year!
That intro song rocks!
Thanks Laura! Got that great 80s/90s throwback vibe!
@@AdamMartyn OMG you're right! That awesome synthpop vibe to start off a great show like The Ident Review! That's the content I subbed for!
I liked BBC 1 Since 1997-2002 2005-2011 & 2013-present

The Ident Review may take another break after Episode 100 but I wouldn't get worried about it ending for good just yet 😊

Do a ident review for the citv idents from 2006
Drop me a link to them and I'll check them out!

Yay, another episode. 😊
That's weird. I could've sworn you would do E4 2013 idents.
