"October" by Eric Whitacre

- Written in 2000, “October” quickly became a standard of the wind band repertoire. Whitacre comments, “October is my favorite month. Something about the crisp autumn air and the subtle change in light always makes me a little sentimental, and as I started to sketch I felt that same quiet beauty in the writing. The simple, pastoral melodies and subsequent harmonies are inspired by the great English Romantics (Vaughn Williams, Elgar) as I felt that this style was also perfectly suited to capture the natural and pastoral soul of the season.”

Once in a while you hear music that leaves you speechless. This is one of those pieces.....
Absolutely breathtaking oboe playing. The sensitivity and ability of the soloist is very admirable

Amazing Piece. I am playing this in band right now and i am in junior high
What a great piece for band by Eric Whitacre! I've played this great work some time ago (euphonium) but not quite as bright a tempo as the USAF band takes it. I like it a bit brighter. Very well performed! (nice camera work too).

Beautiful! Playing this piece for competition this spring
I was just wondering, if it could be at all possible, for the U S. Air Force Band, to put on an online concerto, in honor of two legendary songwriters and orchestra conductors, namely John Williams and Elmer Bernstein, whose memorable melodies can be heard on hundreds of films.
Thank you.
That's a great idea!
