Hey! So nice to see somebody do happy with the lesson. I currently do not have an in depth reggae course. Its a course that should be made but unfortunately this takes a lot of time. I'm working on a funk course right now (which took me a few months) and after this I have some other courses lined up. The plan is to make a style guide for every genre, including reggae, but I do not know when ill get around to it. Hopefully between now and next summer, but thats sort of the timelines were talking about. :-) if the quest for groove grows i can at some point do this full time, which would make producing courses a lot faster! Sorty to dissapoint at the moment. Ill do my best to keep making as much good content as i can with the time that i have.
I think if you're just getting started there are already lots of courses that will really help you grow and lay a foundation for any genre including reggae. I recommend doing the beginner course first, then grooving & improving and then you can do something like "building fills" or my funk course for that matter. I suspect that after that, you could actually just watch a regular reggae drum lesson and then copy some of the stuff in there. By then you know your way around the pads so it should not be too crazy hard actually.
You've almost got it. Your groove and amount of swing is spot on, as well as your "broken triplet" on the hi hat. Things to improve on : the 4 isn't the typical spot for the cymbal, it's actually on the 3 or the "one drop". Also, the 1 IS played on the hi hat, it's just played very quietly, or is simply the closing of the hi hat. Also your roll is far off from reggae, you're playing it like multiple triplets when it reality it's really just a roll of 3 (sometimes 4) notes, the 3rd (or 4th) note landing on the 3. Hope my constructive criticism is helpful. Cheers
Nice to meet you. I am a beginner in finger drumming. I learned a lot from this video. More reggae rhythm pattern videos, please! I want to study! thank you.
Hey welcome! At the moment I'm working on my complete finger drumming curriculum at questforgroove.com I think this is the best way to learn all the basics (and more). Highly recommended!
Really nicely done . I came up with an idea that many times people use sampled drums in jungle/drum'n'bass music that is taken from The Winstons - Amen brother . This rythm is populary named amen break . It would be really nice to play it by myself ,and not only paste the sample and loop it . Great work man . Thanks for the videos :)
Just bought new MK3...loved it as midi pads are incredible in Logic Pro X...but now comes on. Not responsive...does not work for me...very frustrating and Native is not much help...do U help with tech support? I would pay U. Thnx
I dont really do tech support simply because my knowledge of problems and solutions is very limited. But, am I correct in reading that the device does not turn on anymore? Because what I did when that happened to me (because it did) was reinstall the maschine mk3 drivers on my computer and then it worked again.
Awesome video. Hey I wanna learn to jam my guitar live and loop my guitar and drum pad loops, How can I loop live ?? What gear do I need to do this ?? Please help
For most people a laptop with ableton live is the best way to go for live looping. There are devices available for those who do not want to use laptops, but it will not be easy to build a looping rig for multiple instruments like that. I use my laptop for everything so I dont know that much about other solutions!
Sweet. Keep them coming please. I've be an practicing all day with your videos. Can you make a New soul mix so we can practice to with more advanced drum patterns?
Right now I cant because akai will not send me a review unit and the device is not yet for sale where I live. I am working on some general advice videos about purchasing pad controllers that might help anyway, but I cant say much specifically about the mpc one.
Hey thank you for the very detailed explanation ,but im wondering how can i count the triplets ,i can swing but its kinda hard maintaining the counting when i triplet .. any advice ?
I think the best thing to do is just snap your fingers on a slow count of 1, 2, 3, 4 and then you just say out loud: One-trip-let-Two-trip-let-Three-trip-let-Four-trip-let. And you do that for like 1 minute or so. And then you stop, and you do it again tomorrow and the day after. I think before the end of the week you'll start to feel that triplet feel and it will be easier to play it on the pads. In many cases first getting it right in your head by just using your voice is the best way to go instead of instantly trying to play things. Also, the nice thing about this way of practicing is that you can do it anywhere, even without a pad controller :-)
That's great to hear! If you liked this video there should be more stuff on the channel that you'll enjoy and I'm doing a new one every thursday at the moment. Welcome aboard!
So, I’m ambidextrous but my predominant hand is the left hand, how would you recommend me to set up the pads? Im having issues to hitting the pads in this position.. I’m also a new user of the Maschine and Id like to start the proper way! Thank you for all your videos, they are easy to follow 🍻✌️
I recommend mirroring the layout so that your left hand drives the beat! On my website i actually make a lefty version of every lesson that van be enabled in your account settings. Then all the videos and diagrams flip to leftie version :-) on youtube thats not possible but I try to make it happen where it matters most!
Awesome man, big thanx!!! Wanna ask you a question. I have noticed many times that there here very subtle difference between 2 same sounds (like rimshots or hats) (hope you understand what i mean) How to make this subtle difference? The trick in few cents of pitch, or maybe something other?
This is done by the VI. I think he uses Addictive Drums but many drum softwares do this. Its a combination of "round robin" and multi sampling. In other words the software varies the sample for you. As well as that it can be achieved by hitting the pads harder or softer with the correct settings on pads.
You will have to slowly develop your sense of rhythm before your drumming will sound good BUT the good news is that I actually teach people step by step how to develop their timing and groove and sense of rhythm. If you are patient and you put in the work I'm convinced you can learn!
I don't think I understand. This is just live playing. I use the controller as a midi input device into my DAW into the Addictive Drums 2 plugin and just record the midi.
@@TheQuestforGroove could u sequence this on a daw and let us see Are play back the live sound trough midi in a daw sequencer and let us see the midi patterns
