and one of the most forgotten part in axe making is to round out the inside of the axe, as you can see the split where it hasnt fused, making it a weak point. you can do it by either welding or using table vice, so you could use a hammer and a rounded metal stick made into a semi-chicel to round out the inside
I’ve used a double sided axe before, it was fun but too light to be very effective for chopping wood, and felt super sketchy during overhead swings (because your essentially trying to chop your head, and swerve a different direction at the last second)

Back in the medieval era stuff like this was done as piece work so you buy the value of the piece in one go which means you don't get paid by the hour so any extra unnecesary detail would just add time and ultimately take money out of your childrens mouths.
