At around 10:30am on June 24th 2023, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office received a call from a distressed teen stating that her mother was trying to kill her brothers & sisters.
Police were patrolling close by to the scene on Bluestem Court in Albion, Michigan & arrived just moments after the call was placed.
When they arrived, 35 year old Jessica Edward-Ricks was spotted allegedly drowning her 2 year old daughter after stabbing her twice.

With people suffering from mental health issues it's not so clear cut and should depend on the evaluation of doctors to determine to what degree she actuall was responsible and should be punished for.
It's comparable to you causing harm to someone while sleepwalking. It might not have been your intention to do harm, possibly not even in your dream since you imagined tnat something else was happening.
The question is then, should you be held responsible for something that you never counsiously intended to happen and that you deeply reget once you're counscious again?

@@mikespicer4827eryone is commenting about free will. Which is true: everyone has choices they can make. But to make it more understandable, let’s ask a question: how would YOU want God to intervene? And if god always intervened, how would you feel if god reached down and forced every choice you made? How would you feel if you never could have control of your own life? If you want god to always come down and stop sin, you have to be okay with your life being effected as well.
God gave humans free will so we would have the choice to do good, and to freely chose to love and obey him. Without choice, love isn’t really love. We aren’t God’s A.I. We aren’t programmed to only do as we should- …but we should want to do the right thing.
(And you’” might be looking at it too black and white. God could be in the clearheaded call of the older sister. He could have been in the cop’s quick decision making and guided CPR. He could have been in the gentle guiding of the officer to be in the area at the right time. That evil mother made horrible choices, but it took 5+people making good choices to save the baby’s life. The restraint of that officer to not just put a bullet in her head when she was driving the baby was unreal and the fact he left her in there and took care of the baby first is amazing a lot of officers would have wanted the correct number of back up would have wanted to give commands to stop and come out etc these 2 officers and especially the one who’s body cane was shown aren’t just police officers they are hero’s and real men they understood the assignment F the mom we gotta save this baby we can deal with her later we don’t care what she does or what weapons she may have

i know people are hurting each other every minute of every day..one person being hit as a dom abuse victim, 2 teen boys fighting & one stabs the other, someone gets shot during a robbery etc... violence is everywhere. but to actually see the officer pull that baby out of the tub, hear his voice crack, hear him give cpr, hear that baby start to breathe & cry...that was like a punch to the gut to think that every minute someone somewhere is being brutalized by another human. its freaking sickening
