I will always remember Christmas Morning 1986. My Mom bought me the Cobra Night Raven and I was the happiest kid in the World. I still have it to this day with a few missing pieces. I also have a Complete 1986 Night Raven that I bought a few years ago. I also collect Joe's from 82-86.

My kids play with my Joe and Cobra toys today. And seeing them enjoy them just as I had beings be so much joy.
This was one of my favorite jets when I was younger , I actually owned one , it was great , I hope to find it again 😊
The "MacGuffin Device". What a MacGuffin! As I've gotten older, I've realized some more mature jokes I had not previously. Definitely the writers put those in there for the parents who might be watching with the kids as well.
I Got night raven since its look like SR71, and a little story on my night raven and dad...
back in 89,my father let me have this , just because i going to have Tonsillectomy , Im 100% sure he wont let me bought it in any other days. afterward he wont let me opened until i get back from the hospital..which i think its silly,...turn out he actually freakout and worried about my operation,but he still play it cool in front of me, and he make sure I promise will gives max effort to get recover fast & go home soon to meet him & get the night raven...
until now this is the Cobra toys that i consider as masterpiece toys,thanks to my dad ..

I Got most of one in really good condition for christmas (2023) finished the restoration in about 3 weeks! definitely on of my favorite pieces.
Yesterday, I went to a toy show and finally got a Night Raven! I have wanted one since 1986 . But I never got one till now. My brother and I had a large collection of 1980s joes and we still have them , I recently started replacing the black o rings in the over 100 figures we have and this rekindled my desire for a night raven. It is bittersweet to have it. On one hand it brings me back to the joyous happy times of the 1980s then I look up and see the bitter hellscape that exists in the world of 2024.😢 At least I finally have my Night Raven after 38 years of waiting!😊

I had it when I was a child. It`s so cool!
Great toy and memories with my Dad. Clint Eastwood Fire Fox Movie was one of his favorites. After playing with these, we would hang these in the basement. I sold my collection to a collector. Products WERE PLAYED WITH and I will never forget those great times with great toys.

Stumbled onto this today. I am looking at my Night Raven from afar and thinking it is time to replace some parts and get her to former glory. Best 80's toy I had among EVERY action figure/series. Built like a Sherman tank!
Got one of these for Christmas. Fond memories.
I got one of these for my birthday in the 7th grade. Was playing in the driveway with it and went inside to get a drink. When I came out side heard a car driving away fast and it was stolen. Was a sad day. Got to play with it for about 4 hours though.
Just won 1 off ebay in a auction. Had 1 as a child. Im happy to be able to have them memories in my hands again. Can't wait to take ownership of it. Complete with blueprints.
My all time favorite toy vehicle growing up and still today. A beautiful piece of plastic art. It was a terror for the Joes to behold. I remember as a child using a death star gunner [as Clint Eastwood ] to steal the night raven from cobra base. Great times. Thank you Mr Mercy

I love this review. I still have my childhood night raven, and for some lucky reason, it was stored for over 30 years in the original box! I love this plane so much, last year I bought another one. Each plane has three of the stratovipers manning it! Life is good! Yo Joe!

Still have this one. Super awesome review/video. This was to become the last vehicle that I purchased or that anyone purchased when I was a kid as I was going to be going into Middle School and it just wasn't cool to be playing with toys anymore, plus the G.I. Joe line to me was starting to "jump the shark" a bit on where it was going. Especially with Cobra and the whole Bug thing. Anywho,
Like the DragonFly, Snowcat, & Rattler, I love how the stickers were geared toward the vehicles, Like the DragonFly, Snowcat, & Rattler, The Night Raven sticker was very cool.

One thing , I think you forgot to open the engines for repairs of the night raven , it’s located at the top , and the front of the both turbines .
I owned this toy as a kid. It was easily the biggest toy that I ever owned and always loved to play with it. I wish I still had mine from that time period.
I never saw one as a kid but was surprised how big it was even as a fully grown adult! :D

Got one loose, its awesome. also got a reissue Ratler to replace my childhood Ratler. fantastic toy line miss it dearly.you never knew what crazy, awesome contraption they were going to come out with next. some are ridiculous, some are freaking awesome, like the Night Raven! hmmm you are making me want to watch my GI Joe cartoon dvds!!!

This looks way better than the newer one from Rise Of Cobra. I like how the pilot can sit upright rather than lay down.
I had this vehicle along with Conquest X-30.
Man, I wanted this as a kid. Never broke down to get one...yet. But I did pick up that one version from the live action movie. I was in Target looking at Transformers and walked down the isle, knowing if there's a movie, then there are probably toys. Yup there it was on the bottom shelf. First glance I thought reissue, but noticed a bunch of changes and it's style. Added it to my cart, wasn't going to miss a chance to have at least a version of the Nightraven.
Never had one as a kid myself and just got this one not too long ago. Luckily it's still just as cool and HUGE even for a full grown adult. :D
I loved playing with the night raven in the pool. It sank very slowly so I'd have it crash land in the water and have the crew to to abandon the craft before it sank.
The same with the Cobra Hydrofoil.
Dude I'm so getting that bad boy of a jet for my birthday and pulse I like the sleek and Swift types and that night raven is my type of jet.
I had the night raven. Acquired it after my neighbors threw it out in the trash. It was just sitting there on my walk home from school.
Nice and can you compare the 1986 vs 2009 Version. For the 2009 Night Raven it requires the pilot to speak in Scottish Gaelic for weapon firing and ejection
My goodness, could they make toys back then! I remember 9 year old me salivating for this thing at Kay-Bee Toys when I was about 9bor 10 years old knowing I would never be able to buy it
The Lockheed Blackbird was the X-Men jet back in the 1980's. If Marvel Secret Wars line had more than just Wolverine and Magneto I probably would've tried to get this as an X-Men vehicle. I wonder if they would've even fit?

Nice video! The Night Raven is in my opinion one of the most elegant and best designed planes for any 3.25” figure line. The only thing that comes close (again-IMO) is the Star Wars Bwing fighter.
Yup, she's a beauty. It was cool how Joe vehicles didn't have to be exact replicas of real life vehicles.

Great video of the Cobra Night Raven. I got one for myself just recently and it is one awesome toy. Do you have the Cobra Condor and the G.I. Joe Stealth jets ? I think those are the last decent size jets that Hasbro made before they designed canoes with wings, LOL. Awesome video Michael. Thumbs up.

I had the Raven when I was a kid!
I had the G.I.Joe big jet and the Dragon fly helicopter which is also The Marines Cobra attack helicopter.
I always was a van for the night Raven. The one you have here is one for him later in the run. You can tell that by the type of system that uses to deploy the landing gear with the tab in the back. The original night Raven had a flat piece on the very back that slid straight back and board to deploy the landing gear. It was extremely hard to use. My personal night Raven is like yours with the tab between the back raining here. As I said that was a change that was made later in the run of the toy.

Michael Mercy The phantom text 19 was another one with weak raining here. The sheer weight of the plane it displayed on it’s raining here would work the leaning gear.
the drone i know can fit a figure, but i'm currently watching the gi joe series and just finished the first 50 and i don't recall them saying the drone from the raven was a robot or actually was driven by a person; like the toy does. you know showing the destroyed vehicle deploy a parachute showing that trademark corporate safe warfare.
I love my night ravens. I use one customized as x-men blackbird. wonder what happened to the drone, I had it but... ah well. fine without it on that one. excellent dialogue on your vids!

Nice, I have the version with a straight lever for the landing gear and also a loose shuttle which actually have two tabs underneath that helps to balance it when placed directly on a table. I am not sure if the J-hook version you have is the first release or a second release because the straight lever I have is prone to landing gear "collaps" when placed on a surface so I could imagine that they would update it eventually. Same goes for the shuttle with tabs :)

Waaaaaiiiiit a minute... My night raven landing gear lever just moves forward and backward. There's no notch like on yours. Straight slot. Nothing fancy.

Not a bad likeness to the SR-71 variant of the M21 and D21 which was a modified version of the A-12. Really wish we had these in the UK when I was younger, I don't ever remeber seeing G.I. JOE when I was a kid and I was born in 81 so I guess it must of showed up over here at some point. I would of gone nuts for these. Trying to restrain myself and not build up a costly Ebay bill now!!!!
GI Joe was released in the UK as "Action Force." Guess they didn't think "A real American hero" would have sold as well overseas. :D

See back then my attention was driven towards Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant "Hero" Turtles and He-Man, I completely missed out on the whole G.I. JOE thing. Oh well my sun was born a week ago, maybe when he gets a bit older I can use him as an excuse to get a load of stuff!

There was the movie version but that one fell short of the original. It was only a 1 seater and no drone.

You know....back in about 1985, I made a design for a black Cobra jet exactly like this. It even had the small scout jet on the back. I was 9 years old and I called it the Nightingale.
I mailed those designs in to Hasbro...
