Do any of you have a "shoe belief system"? What are some of your beliefs, and what shoes have you found that match them? ...or perhaps you have an interesting shoe store to share? Let's hear them!

Due to my having one arm the shoes that will work for me are limited. A few have Boa and Salomon work as well with their Quicklace system.

That makes sense. ...and I've seen you on the trail, you do quite well!

Thanks for the great video and really interesting to hear your shoe beliefs. I have been an avid wearer of the Inov-8 Roclites for years. Really good for multi surface trail running and general all round use. I also have a pair of the Trailfly ultras which although a very different style with more cushioning I also really enjoy. I had always wondered about getting a pair of the Mudclaws (a bit excessive for my use in reality) but see they seem to have been discontinued and replaced by these Mudtalons. I may have to give them a go! Re top of the foot pain - generally I can just slip into the roclites and they are immediately comfy - but I have had a pair which caused immediate discomfort to the top of my foot as you describe. It was just an issue with the stiffness of the material an improved over time as I broke them in.

Thanks for your feedback on the foot pain. That makes me optimistic. I want to love the Mudtalon Speeds. I've always enjoyed Inov-8's options and how you could essentially dial in exactly what you like. We'll see what the future holds.

Topic was right up my alley! I subscribed. I had the Karnazes North Face years ago. They looked really cool. Red, yellow and black. But, I only ran in them once then they were casual shoes only. Too stiff! I read Chi Running about 12 years ago and follow his philosophy to this day for the most part. I now primarily follow coach Eric Orton from the Born to Run book.
My favorite trail shoes are Inov8 G270 zero drop, Altra Outroad zero drop, and i recently picked up about a dozen pairs of Xero trail shoes while on sale. Xero shoes are promoted by Danny Dreyer, Christopher McDougall, and Eric Orton from your favorite books. I recommend you checkout the "Xero" Low Scramblers, and Mesa Trail II. You can catch a great sale right now. Specifically, i think you'd really like the Low Scramblers. Great video sir

Thanks for subscribing! I'm glad you enjoyed, and could relate, to my journey. I may have to look into the two Zero shoes you mentioned. I looked them up, and they are very intriguing. Ironically, I think I may have met the founder, Steven, years ago at a talk. I just read their origin story, and I'm pretty sure I have met him, back when he was making huaraches. I hadn't followed him after that, so I wasn't aware he was the founder of Zero. Cool!

@TrailAmbitions Steven was on Shark Tank but turned down their offer. I think they did 38 million in revenue last year,so it all worked out for him. I'm confident you'll like their shoes! Good luck sir!

For shorter trail mountain runs (3-4 hours) I use cheap china barefoot shoes. Especially beneficial downhill, Otherwise I use shoes with zero drop from Altra with wide shoe box. Works well for me. Since long time no foot pain or injury. But I changed very cautious to barefoot shoes for many months. Now I swear of it.

I agree with you, changing to barefoot shoes over an extended period of time is definitely the way to go. Thanks for sharing your approach.

How would these drain? Only the upper looks permeable. Curious after running 90% of an ultra with wet feet (Merell Agility Peak 5)

I have not worn them in water, so I don't have first hand experience yet; however, my past experience with the X-Talon models have been exceptional in very wet conditions, so I am expecting these to be the same. The permeable material does extend to the sides of the shoes similar to the X-Talons.

Hi @ikarian3612, I just released a new video where I tested the shoes in water. Please check it out - ruclips.net/video/ZeBAXF2jAn4/видео.htmlsi=q8-l5QfeoFhBY4zK - and I hope it helps answers some questions. Take care...
