It's amazing that despite how much tragedy has happened to Alice in Chains over the years that the remaining members and new members have managed to move on and create excellent music. Of course it's different without Layne Staely and Mike Starr, but gotta admit, they still sound good.
I heard "Black Gives Way To Blue". was to Layne. There were a lot of different artist's that made songs for Layne after he passed. He had a hauntingly beautiful voice that touched my soul.R.I.P Layne.AIC forever!!
Really. I have an old lady who lives nearby who has cancer (mostly overcome now). Her days should be spent in pain and misery, rolling in bed in pure agony. But that doesn't happen. She actually has had the chance to live a normal, painless life, with a shot at dignity. Because she uses morphine daily. It's all the same substance, since heroin is converted back to morphine once it enters your body. There's only *two* options here: either the old lady should be a wreck by now (like Layne), or Layne should be alive and livin well (like the old lady). Since a substance doesn't know morality, it should be having the *same* effect in 2 human bodies. I leave it to you to try to understand what went wrong, what *really* destroyed Layne... We can see that it wasn't the substance itself. So, what was it? Think hard. Think smart. You'll get it.
Alice In Chains closed out ROCKUSA in Oshkosh, WI last year with Jerry singing. Let me just say it was loud like the old days...and just pure orgasmic fucking awesomeness!! Long Live AIC!!!
I don't understand why people give a shit how many people disliked a video. Do you need these 5 other people to agree with you in order to enjoy what you are hearing? I would still find this song pleasing to my ears even if there were 1 million people who disliked it.
man Duval has a few lines in this just like how Layne had few lines in heavens beside you it's mostly jerry in both songs so there really isn't much of a difference bands sounds change all the time just enjoy this normally like you never heard aic before i mean jerry is the one who wrote and writes most of the songs while Layne is amazing and irreplaceable just don't let his absence ruin the experience of aic new music to it after all a lot of those songs are a tribute to layne and it's great it's to me on the same level as old aic stuff
Well, IMHO, Alice in Chains made quite a recovery after so many years retired. There are a lot of bands who came back from their graves interested only in money, and worrying not a bit about music quality.
I loved Layne and Jerry's interplay in songs live and how they'd be really in-tune to each other's voices and singing so that they could do them interwoven together, but for some reason, I love this song because it, to me, shows Jerry's voice away from being behind Layne's.

I think this whole album is about Layne, and how the band suffered without him, and finally came to terms with his death and the events that led up to it. Jerry Cantrell will never replace Layne, but he has a similar vocal style. You can feel the pain in his voice, as you could feel when Layne sang with the band.
Dr. Junaid Ahangar right, so we make many choices in our life. Good choices, bad choices, choices with little noticeable effect. I think it’s based on Laynes addiction. In the beginning it was a nice high and a good feeling. No one plans for an addiction to overcome them and ultimately end their life.
It means "lower " the the kingdom of God is the first is last. And the last is first. You need to be a servant to be the greatest. Low humbleness. Most people won't choose to be servants and humbleness. They want to be the best and everything easy
I don't mean to be picky,I love Jerry but I would argue that in some way Layne didn't chose the path that brought him lower. In this life, perhaps. I know that we obviously would all love for him to still be around, but I think he more than leveled up in the next life. So in a way he actually didn't go lower. But, Jerry I respect Jerry's take on the situation
I always liked diferent things a lot and then when i had someone "normal" watch it or listen with me it wasn't as good. I think i am over that now though, it doesnt seem to matter i know what i like now! :-) and this is A.O.K.!
Wow people are dumb....thinking Layne Staley is singing this. The reason this song sounds like the original AIC is because Layne Staley didnt sing alone. Jerry Cantrell did co-vocals with him and still sings along with William Duvall who replaced Layne Staley. Staley was a great singer but Cantrells voice overpowered his, thats why it still sounds similar.

Jimmy David I’m pretty sure heroine and morphine are different and there’s also a difference between a prescription and addiction/abuse
Wrong. Sold his soul. Super human angel DEMON.

Rest in peace Layne, we'll see you there.

Jerry wrote it.

the best songwriting of my generation.....it's like Jerry and Lane saw IT before it was here
