  • RustMo1 Solar Farm was South Africa's first solar farm inaugurated on 28 May 2013. Building a solar farm is a lengthy and complex process.

because the algorithm doesn't reward information it rewards things that are shareable and clickbait

I love it we can finally stop using oil to make electricity and instead get it from something that does not pollute our world.

Sorry but much of the world's farmlands are *far* from beacons of environmentalism.
Agricultural farms will more than likely deteriorate the land much harder than a solar farm would. Agricultural farms are major sources of pesticide & fertilizer run off, animal waste runoff including methane. Constant churning of the soil erodes top soil decreasing micro biodiversity as well as releases CO₂ that have been captured from dead plants and foliage.
      From The World Wildlife Fund:
"When agriculture fields replace natural vegetation, topsoil is exposed and can dry out. The diversity and quantity of microorganisms that help to keep the soil fertile can decrease, and nutrients may wash out. Soil can be blown away by the winds or washed away by rains."
From The National Family Farm Coalition:
"Due to intensive farming practices, nearly half of all productive topsoil has disappeared in the last 150 years. In the US, topsoil is eroding 10 times more rapidly than it can be replaced. Fertilizers, with voluminous untreated animal waste from factory farms, are polluting ground and surface water across the country."
Contrast this with the land on the acreage of solar panels will enjoy a *much* more peaceful life for the *decades* that a solar farm is in operation. Solar farms can be replenished indefinitely with new and better solar panels so can actually exist indefinitely. Solar farms require practically zero material inputs and outputs. They exist in a practically "passive state" over the land with their sealed solid-state electronics. They can be dry brush cleaned _without water_ robotically or by human crews or a combination.
Even so, there is the concept of "agrivoltaics" where solar panels are _purposefully_ placed over farming land. This saves on water with shade and allows many plants to actually grow _more abundantly_ and with _more quality_ due to less heat stress from excessive sun. Plants get stressed out by too much sunlight and will pull more water from the soil in an effort cool itself off and ward off sun tissue damage which wastes water.
