What an incredible reaction. This song is so heartbreaking because it deals in WWII. What an incredible Diva had to go through to survive after having it all. Such a beautiful song. This live version gives it a more emotional element. The original version is more powerful. But, I love the arrangement of this one. This was one of her best concerts because she changed the arrangements of all of her songs to make them more orchestral. Just beautiful.

In my opinion, the best performance of this song was made in the show called OT in 2008. It was brutal, and i don´t know a better performance whith only one person in the scenrio.
The 2007 or 2008 song is about a famous European singer diva in the 1930´s who was adored by her fans, but hell broke loose on the onset of WWII where the nazis invaded Europa, created concentration camps, gas chamber "the final solution" and diva became crazy. At the end of WWII, with an impoverished, destitute Europe, destroyed by the War, the diva arises from the ashes as the Phoenix bird. Mónica is interpreting the diva singer before the onset of WWII, the diva that went crazy during WWII and the diva that rises from the ashes like the Phoenix bird. Mónica uses this as a metaphor for when she spent years fighting with the record company for artistic control. It got to the point where she could no longer deal with the mistreatment of the record company, so she walked away for 6 or 7 years, not producing any music. Six years later, she composed the album "Tarantula" with the first single as "Europa" with full artistic control. Her fans went nuts to see her return, as they are very loyal. We fans know Mónica´s struggles and success and understand the literary devices (metaphor, alliteration, symbolism) she uses in her lyrics and videos to fully admire and adore her work. Mónica is capable of singing Opera, Jazz, Rock, Tango, Classical and other musical genres. I would recommend "Ahora Ahora directo de Luar" and that you read the lyric before hand.

This song talks about the moral and economic decline of Europe and the rise of nationalism in the different countries of Europe that, together with the fascism of Hitler and Mussolini, caused the Second World War. The song also talks about the final solution of the Nazis to exterminate the Jews :( and Mónica Naranjo gets into the role of an imaginary diva but with references to the German diva Marlene Dietrich who was against the Nazi regime and who had to go to the United States where she continued with her career as a singer and actress.! It also seems that Monica plays a bit the role of an opera diva in the style of Maria Callas.!
Monica also uses this song to make an allegory of Europe with her career as a singer who had great success and was loved and considered a diva in many Spanish-speaking countries but later felt mistreated by her record label that did not want to give her artistic freedom. so that she could make the music that she wanted away from the commercial and then Monica decided to retire for 6 years but then she returned to music free of ties with her record label doing what she wanted and better than ever and she was reborn as an artist with this song and with his album "Tarántula"
This song "Europe" leaves us as a warning that what happened in Europe and triggered the second world war could happen again and today the danger of another world war is very real :( but it also leaves the message that Europe will be reborn from his ashes as he did on previous occasions.!

Wow, great background information, thank you! I've always been a fan of female singers with powerful voices - be it opera, blues, gospel, rock or pop. Though, for me, it has to serve the song and it's mood and not just be a vocal excercise. A reason why I never could warm up to Maria Carey (I hope I haven't initiated a s***storm with this...).
Monica Naranjo obviously is in a class of singers who don't have to do that and just let their voices speak (or rather: sing) for themselves!

This version, like all Monica's songs, is magnificent. Although my favorite version is the one from the Stage tour. It is more similar to the original of the Disco and much more rocker

Monica is a diva for all of us. She has got a various range of vocal ranges and touches different musical genres. She is really unique as an artist. I recommend you to listen to her last single entitled 'Toda una mujer' that criticishes the hardship work many models have to undergo when they suffer sexual abuse from their photographers. It is the soundtrack of a documentary that will be released next week on tv about a Spanish photographer who used to assault sexually his clients who where young models.

I think you are right where she is on his. Countries like Greece, Italy,Spain, and others have come close to financial ruin. Countries you thought not possible. Now europe is facing how many people will freeze to death from no heat if winter is harsh this year. They say hundred of thousands. Europe is changing not by choice. She is incredible. She could sing in a metal band easily with that voice.
