Because it's a massive DLC pack, it's a full blown EXPANSION. Also, I think they want to keep it balanced with Inklings still being used in the multiplayer. Think about it, if playable Octolings were available as free DLC, EVERYONE would use them and the Inklings would get the shaft. At least for a while.. This will help keep a healthy mix in the battles. To me, it's well worth the 20 bucks. Honestly, what is 20 bucks these days? Not that much... I spend double that just gassing up my car. Also, look at how much FREE content we have gotten and continue to get. The trailer right there begins with all those version 3.0 updates. New stages, new gear, new music, new X rank... Nintendo gives Splatoon so much love and attention. It's hard to complain.

I got a switch last christmas and in my birthday january 6 i got splatoon and like 1 day later switch online and in the same day octo expansion so i finished it but dont have the main one finished

Apparently, the eshop description stated around 80 stages and you’d have to beat the full campaign in order to play as the octoling. Im kind of happy that this is the case in that you have to earn the playable character rather then pay for it.
I mean, you do have to pay for it though. This just means that you have to spend $20 only to not be able to use the thing you spent $20 on in the main mode of the game till you beat a certain requirement.

Well... Almost, they did give what we asked; but at a cost. If you don't know what I'm talking about it is the old-school specials like the Kraken, Inkzooka, and the Inkstrike. (which would be confusing to implement) All-in-all it's great but I grief since there is no Kraken and I mained it back in Splatoon 1.
I think this also confirms Animal Crossing isn't coming this year. Splatoon devs are the same people behind AC and they're giving this game so much love. Not that I'm mad about that though, Splatoon is my favorite Wii U game. Maybe favorite online TPS ever.
I dont have a switch or ever played splatoon but i adore the art design of splatoon and its characters/world. Its so unique and interesting from the first game to the second with the salmonids to now deepsea creatures. Thats freaking amazing character design. Also love how alot of things are going back to the 80's aesthetic
Buy the art books then, they are HUGE and contain so much great artwork and lore. Literally and basically the entire games in book form. Contains all of the clothing, too.
When I saw the subway, what went through my mind was the subway portion of the hub world that is blocked. Maybe that is the entrance to this octoling adventure.

There is a Sunken Scroll in Splatoon 2 that depicts the final battle in Splatoon 1 (I believe it is the second level’s). It clearly shows a female Inkling. Also, ANOTHER Scroll said that Cuttlefish and Agent 3 went off to the coast to investigate something, which was taken as the reason for their absence (until now, that is). I will even go out on a limb and say that’s the “something” they were investigating was this subway.

On the competitive side however, yes it is just the same battles over and over again, but you could say the same about most sports. Personally I find sports boring so I think I know where you're coming from, but I love the challenge and thrill of a good fight with an equally skilled opponent.

Yea, I cannot get wait to get shot by someone standing across the bridge again... I actually am glad they are bringing it back though, I feel like I will be better at the stage, since I no longer main with the octobrush, I main with brellas and dualies, which have decent range. In splatoon 1, I could only do the brush, it was the only thing I did not suck with besides the roller, that had the homing bombs, but the only consistent killing I got was just from sniping people with those bombs. They took out the kraken and they took out the homing bombs (replaced with curling bombs and autobombs, but not as good as the homing bombs were) so I had to get some new strategies involving actually using the main weapon, instead of relying on subs and specials.

I agree with this. Maybe all octolings are his “children” and they are used for domination. Some how, Marina (an octoling), escapes the mind control and fleed to inkopis. Now, agent 8 is now trying to escape as well, but needs the help from captain cuddle fish, off the hook, and the blue sea cucumber to stop DJ Octavio once and for all(also maybe agent 8 is the direct child to DJ Octavio? He/she is different from the regular octolings)
Cecily Luby. I'm thankful they didn't. Releasing Splatoon 3 would only divide the online community, AND it would cost another $60. I like the path Nintendo is choosing for this one. Basically releasing a new game (new single player at least) for only $20 as an addition to the game we already have. It costs only $20 and it keeps the online community INTACT!!

JessLiNess Well, not only is this post apocalyptic after the death if humanity, you are being hired by a shady guy you only know from phone calls to attack and steal Salmonid eggs from their mothers, you talk to people and "order" stuff from them (of which they will steal), you go underground to stop enemy forces that even though they have uber advanced technology, live in the scums of the world... Need I go on? Otherwise this is an absolutely amazing game.
I like that rather than just give players the ability to play as an Octoling from the start or via a micro-transaction that unlocks it, they have to earn it. Gives a good sense of accomplishment!
The octoling skin is clearly intended to be a way of saying 'I did this hard thing!' It's a status symbol. Now that said, I think if Splatoon 3 came out, Octoling skins should be there from the start. No reason to remove things the previous game had, none at all. But you shouldn't give everyone a reward because not everyone is interested in the challenge that will lead to the reward. That's the point of a reward. It's rewarding behavior which might be difficult or not immediately in your interest.

I dont have a switch or ever played splatoon but i adore the art design of splatoon and its characters/world. Its so unique and interesting from the first game to the second with the salmonids to now deepsea creatures. Thats freaking amazing character design. Also love how alot of things are going back to the 80's aesthetic
Buy the art books then, they are HUGE and contain so much great artwork and lore. Literally and basically the entire games in book form. Contains all of the clothing, too.

There is a Sunken Scroll in Splatoon 2 that depicts the final battle in Splatoon 1 (I believe it is the second level’s). It clearly shows a female Inkling. Also, ANOTHER Scroll said that Cuttlefish and Agent 3 went off to the coast to investigate something, which was taken as the reason for their absence (until now, that is). I will even go out on a limb and say that’s the “something” they were investigating was this subway.

On the competitive side however, yes it is just the same battles over and over again, but you could say the same about most sports. Personally I find sports boring so I think I know where you're coming from, but I love the challenge and thrill of a good fight with an equally skilled opponent.

Yea, I cannot get wait to get shot by someone standing across the bridge again... I actually am glad they are bringing it back though, I feel like I will be better at the stage, since I no longer main with the octobrush, I main with brellas and dualies, which have decent range. In splatoon 1, I could only do the brush, it was the only thing I did not suck with besides the roller, that had the homing bombs, but the only consistent killing I got was just from sniping people with those bombs. They took out the kraken and they took out the homing bombs (replaced with curling bombs and autobombs, but not as good as the homing bombs were) so I had to get some new strategies involving actually using the main weapon, instead of relying on subs and specials.

I agree with this. Maybe all octolings are his “children” and they are used for domination. Some how, Marina (an octoling), escapes the mind control and fleed to inkopis. Now, agent 8 is now trying to escape as well, but needs the help from captain cuddle fish, off the hook, and the blue sea cucumber to stop DJ Octavio once and for all(also maybe agent 8 is the direct child to DJ Octavio? He/she is different from the regular octolings)

Cecily Luby. I'm thankful they didn't. Releasing Splatoon 3 would only divide the online community, AND it would cost another $60. I like the path Nintendo is choosing for this one. Basically releasing a new game (new single player at least) for only $20 as an addition to the game we already have. It costs only $20 and it keeps the online community INTACT!!

Need I go on?

I like that rather than just give players the ability to play as an Octoling from the start or via a micro-transaction that unlocks it, they have to earn it. Gives a good sense of accomplishment!
The octoling skin is clearly intended to be a way of saying 'I did this hard thing!' It's a status symbol.
Now that said, I think if Splatoon 3 came out, Octoling skins should be there from the start. No reason to remove things the previous game had, none at all. But you shouldn't give everyone a reward because not everyone is interested in the challenge that will lead to the reward. That's the point of a reward. It's rewarding behavior which might be difficult or not immediately in your interest.
