I stayed in the AC hotel last year and spent time on the walking path along the waterfront. What a great addition. Big fan of the titanic 84 years edit!
As a 30-year resident of Clark County and Vancouver, I agree with StTaylor10 for the most part. Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars have been poured into subsidizing commercial developers so that they could build what amounts to an overpriced mall for tourists next to the river which is too expensive for the majority of Clark County residents to patronize. Its not for us. Meanwhile, the rest of the downtown business community (the actual revenue and tax generators), and especially uptown, are treated by the city as if they don't exist. Not to fear though - soon the monstrous 7-story I5 bridge replacement will plunge Clark County into a decade long existence as a giant construction zone and eventually tower over the waterfront, blocking the view of Mt. Hood from the waterfront, bringing Tri-Met's Fentanyl train over from Portland and tearing a swathe of destruction through the city's oldest and not-coincidentally lowest income neighborhoods from the river to Hazel Dell in order to make room for widening of I5. "Progress" is great; ain't it?
Hi, this is KS. when I came here in 2001, down town Vancouver was declined city. But now it became one of great spots. I go there a lot but it is difficult to find parking spots especially weekend. when a new parking will be available?
hi KS! Yes Downtown Vancouver has really been revitalized. There is a parking structure being completed right now. I would expect it will open in the next few months, then there will be wayyyy more parking for everyone
Just a heads up that you can always take a bus into downtown and not deal with parking! We also have a lot of great bicycle routes that’ll get you to downtown and the waterfront, also no parking required!
I do like the new Vancouver waterfront but I do wish it wasn’t going to be so densely populated with residential living and hotels and high rise buildings. I think it loses the charm of a beautiful waterfront area.
I hear that a lot, and I feel you! It is more of a city vibe so density just comes with the territory. All housing will become more dense in the future, for better or for worse.
As a native Californian relocated to WA 4 years ago here are my thoughts of the waterfront development. The Vancouver Waterfront is highly overrated in the areas of retail and housing. The apt. complexes are overpriced and not luxury. Parking, traffic, and noise is terrible with many tourists constantly roaming around invading the area,The restaurants are expensive and sub-par. I lived in San Francisco and Encino/Bev Hills and the waterfront is a pacific Northwest wanna-be. The only attraction is there is really no place like it between Vancouver and Seattle/San Fran. but that still doesn't justify the prices for hotel/food/or apt leases. My guess is it is attractive to those working in Portland that commute daily/save on their income tax and escape the crime and politics of Portland. In a few years all that Portland has become will be brought over to Vancouver which will add to its livability decline! On June 14th a homeless man was shot and killed by police in the afternoon a few hundred yards from the waterfront on Columbia Street. June 17th another homeless man was shot and killed by Vancouver police just a few miles away from the waterfront after waving a gun at multiple people.
Agreed that it can be tough to find a good parking spot on weekends, but I'm surprised you'd call the apartments overpriced. I was shocked at how affordable they are (for example, you can rent a premium studio unit with a huge beautiful river view for as low as $1.7k last I looked, and that includes an infinity pool and all sorts of other luxury amenities). It's pricier to lease a decent place in Hough, or even Lincoln.
I have made a comprehensive study of a ll apartments in the Downtown Vancouver and Riverfront are adjacent including conversations with the city MFTA coordinator(multifamily housing) and apartments are expensive. A one bed average (500/700)sq ft is about $1700/2200 and 2 beds average from 2700/3800 a month. The rental prices have doubled in the area the last 5 years.Compared to portland they are still cheaper but that does not make Vancouver Wa apartments cheap by no stretch of the imagination.@@spineleafcover5932
You failed to mention the price for parking at the waterfront district..$1,75/$2.50 per hour...it's cheaper to park in the Bev. Hills public garage lol. Apartment 1 bed average $1,700 to $2,300 and 2 bedroom $2,700 to $5,000 and that is not REASONABLE because i assure 95% pf these apartments have no view of the river. @@spineleafcover5932
Another double homicide a short distance from the Vancouver Waterfront took place July 26, 2024. Vancouver area used to be safe at one time. Again, the waterfront is overpriced, parking is expensive and a mess, the restaurants are overpriced and average at best food quality.

That is terrible news about the crime. I don't feel the same about the experience of the waterfront and the restaurants but to each their own!
