This is what I don’t like about Reaper. It takes an 11 minute video to explain what should be much simpler and is on other DAW software. I like that Reaper is inexpensive and powerful but doing anything involves the most complex set of instructions.
I've been at this trying to install.drumbs for literal f*cking hours now bro 🥺 I just got myself a new Scarlett today so I can finally plug my guitar in, but I downloaded REAPER v7.15 and even though my project carried over, it said it couldn't load MT-PowerDrumKit. So I re-download it, did what I did last time I'm pretty sure, and it still won't appear anywhere in my pluggins or effects. So I'm sad now and I want to mass murder my laptop, but I can't because I need it to use my new interface.
Ok so I have it downloaded and it pops up in Reaper when I look for it...now how do I use it lol. Its my first time ever really using a DAW and I am kinda clueless
Oh My GOSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have no idea how much your videos have helped me. I am a new student and wanted to start making music. I have been fumbling around with reaper for ever. Reapers Authentic videos are informative but almost to a fault. It's like if you don't start from the very first one you won't understand a thing let alone know what video title to look for. Your Vid's are straight forward and for beginners like myself. Thank you 1000 times! I am subscribing and referring others to your awesome videos!
What the EFFFFF is a DLA???? I HATE REAPER because it's impossible to learn! I used to hate all of the other stuff that was out. As they developed they all became less user-friendly. I gave up and quit recording. Tape and tape machines are too expensive to maintain. ADATs and the like, are too. Bring back Cool Edit Pro and the EARLY versions of Fruity Loops!!! EVERY time I open my effing REAPER program I go through HOURS to DAYS of relearning/reconfiguring EVERYTHING!!!! EVERY GD TIME. WTF is up with that??? It's always a GD EFFING beating is what it is. By the time I do(if I do) get it up and running the ideas and inspiration are LONG, LONG, LONG, LONG, gone. REAPER sucks as much as the rest. It's a pity that Adobe bought out Syntrilium. THAT was intuitive AF!!!! I just USED it. I didn't a manual or help file. It might be fine but when they "upgraded" it and called it Audition, they jacked the price up, several-fold and made it harder to use. EFF them too!!! My point is that I need to understand Reaper. I wasn't trying to rant. However, I agree with all of the previous statements. SO, HOW in God's name do I use Reaper??? I've watched videos. I've done the things. EVERY DAMN TIME I START UP THIS OR ANY OTHER MACHINE, it's all about trial and error and starting over. I don't get it. I HATED Sonar. It was Sonar 5 or so. It was clunky. BUT, it remembered my settings. I will not pay for Reaper until it is usable. I've never accomplished anything with it other than headaches. Because I don't think they are capable of making it usable, I think I will go back to a tape deck. PLEASE HELP!!!
Here is how I did it. In Windows 10 File Explorer, I created a folder for VST plugins. I downloaded a VSTi which included a dll file and a folder containing an MSE file. I put the dll file in the VST plugins folder. as well as a folder containing mse files, which has the graphic interface for the VSTi. In Reaper, went to Options > Preferences > VST. In the list of file paths which Reaper scans for VSTs, I added the file path for the new folder which I created. Then did a new scan for VSTi's and Reaper found it. Success! I still don't know where the "Add" button is, or where the Steinberg folder is, but at least I could install a downloaded VSTi.
I am a beginner, and successfully downloaded the plugin and can see the control settings for TAL noisemaker like you showed, but I cant make it make the synth noise! Its just the "nope" sound with every key that I type. Just using my laptop keyboard. Help is appreciated!
Hi thanks for the video but when i click 'Scan For New Plugins', the plugin doesn't show. I have downloaded it and is in the right folder. Please help, thanks.
Double check the folder you installed the plugin into is in REAPER's VST path. You can check in Preferences, under VST page. Make sure the folder is listed in the VST Plugin Paths. If not, you can add the folder or move the plugin to a folder that is listed there. Hope that helps. Cheers!
You can either download the link from Reaper's website if you search Reaper plug-ins, or you can create a new folder in your files. If you create a new folder, I suggest looking for the directory that Reaper is looking for when it comes to finding the VST plug-ins and use the default directory Reaper is searching for because that's how I was able to install a synthesizer into Reaper.
Audiohacker, thanks for all the help you offer us Reaper users. I have no VST, VST3 or Steinberg folder in my Reaper 6.02, but I did find a folder, AppData/Roaming/Reaer/User Plugins. I copied a 64 bit VSTi (Sonatina Trumpet) to this folder. But scanning for new plug ins does not find out. Also, contrary to the manual, when I go to Options > Preferences > Plugins > VST, there is no Add button to manually add. Help?
Well, I thought I'd really found a way to do this and your instructions were straight forward and simple. I go to the TAL noise maker to download, they make me sign up for an account, They want to download an installer that I don't want and things freeze. somehow I get back to the download page. I download the synth, go to my downloads, open a file, there is no DLL file to drag to my desk top. There is a Mac file and a windows file. I click on the windows file and have no software to open it. Boy, I'm having fun now. Makes me wanna go back to my Roland 2480. Thanks for trying. No doubt I'll run into some downloads that don't make you install an installer that wont install. Till then this is too time consuming.
Thank you for keeping Windows separate from the other one. Some idiots think apple is all there is... No no no no way. And for that reason I will actually subscribe to your "Recording Your Own Music: A Step-By-Step Guide for Musicians" online course!
I have Reaper on my D drive because I have a large Albion orchestra library and cannot find the library inside reaper. Does reaper have to be on the C drive? Also this is my first time loading instruments into reaper and I’ve been copying the folders over. Do I need the folders or just copy the files inside over?
The Synth that I downloaded, it wasn't have only 1 simple file dll. like that. it has 3-4 different folders such as: soundbank, main folder, dll., fxb. I'm using Window 10 - 64bit and Reaper V.5. More, there are 2 different folders of Program on my C and E drives. A "Program" and a "Program x86". which one is 32 and 64 bits thu. Sorry I just got Pc desktop at the first time ever. I am a Mac user btw. Thanks
Thanks for watching! What VST instrument did you download? Often there is an installer program that will put all those files in the correct place. If not, check to see if there is a ReadMe.txt or Instructions.txt file that explains what to do. Cheers!
WHEN IT COMES TO VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTS, dO i HAVE TO BUY OR JUST DOWNLOAD THE FREE ONE. BECAUSE i CAN HEAR THE SOUND COMING FROM ANY OF MY KEYBOARD CONTROLER EVEN AFTER INSTALING SOME FREE VST INTO REAPER.
Thanks for watching! You can use free or paid virtual instruments in REAPER. If you're happy with the free instruments you've found, that's great. Paid instruments often have more sounds available or are often more versatile. However, there are some amazing free instruments out there, and not all paid instruments are great! Cheers!
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure about .mse plugins. I haven't used any plugins with that format. Check out the REAPER forum. I'm sure the answer is there! Cheers! forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20
Thanks for watching! You can create those folders yourself if you want. The important thing is that REAPER knows where to look for your plugins. Cheers!
your videos have been really helpful, do you know of any piano/grand piano and/or orchestral vst plugins? iv'e downloaded two but they were rar files i don't know if that's relevant but they do not work
Thanks for watching! .RAR files are compressed files and need special software to open them up. For free VST instrument plugins, check out www.samplescience.ca/. They might have something that would work for you. Good luck!
do you have to install ezdrummer to the same drive as reaper?? i had reaper installed on my ssd drive and iwant to install all other plugins on my hard drive but when i did that reaper couldn't locate ezdrummer or ezmix etc
Thanks for watching! You don't have to have the plugins installed on the same drive as REAPER. However, you do need to make sure REAPER knows where to look for these plugins. In the Preferences window in REAPER, go to VST (under the Plugins header on the lefthand side), and make sure the folder where you've installed EZ Drummer is listed under: VST plug-in paths. Add the location of the folder there, and re-start REAPER. It should find the plugins the next time it's launched. If you need more help, I suggest posting on the REAPER forums at forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20. Cheers!
Thanks for watching! To find the folder you're looking for open up File Explorer, click on "Local Disk (C:)" in the lefthand pane (under "This PC"). There you'll find a folder called "Program Files", in that folder scroll down to find the folder called "Steinberg". In that folder, there should be a folder called "VstPlugins". Let me know if you have any problems. Cheers!
7:00 is when the video starts for windows
Lol, thanks
thanks lol
Thanks lol

Thanks mate

This is the first video I watched that actually helped. As a singer who's a complete numbnuts about production, this was so well explained. Thank you.
Ok so I have it downloaded and it pops up in Reaper when I look for it...now how do I use it lol. Its my first time ever really using a DAW and I am kinda clueless
Super stoked! I finally have sound: )
This series is brilliant. It's so good to watch this stuff presented by someone with teaching chops!
Thanks for saving my life. Very clear video!
Cheers! Thanks for watching!

how do we use DS library files in Reaper?

When i download the plugin it's a 7zip file and it doesn't work when I put it into the VSTPlugins folder
You'll need to unzip the file so your computer can use it correctly. Try unzipping and following the instructions from there. Thanks for watching!
I cant find VST plugins : (. i know this video is hellla old but damnnnnn
type in reaplugs into your browser, and download it at the official reaper website
WHEN IT COMES TO VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTS, dO i HAVE TO BUY OR JUST DOWNLOAD THE FREE ONE.

HELLO ! What about .mse plugins ?
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure about .mse plugins. I haven't used any plugins with that format. Check out the REAPER forum. I'm sure the answer is there! Cheers! forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20
Boom! Excellent!
Awesome, thanks mate!
6.57 windows
I don't have a folder called vst plugins or a Steinburg folder. great video otherwise though
Thanks for watching! You can create those folders yourself if you want. The important thing is that REAPER knows where to look for your plugins. Cheers!

do you have to install ezdrummer to the same drive as reaper?? i had reaper installed on my ssd drive and iwant to install all other plugins on my hard drive but when i did that reaper couldn't locate ezdrummer or ezmix etc
Cheers!
thanks mate. i managed to solve the issue but the way you said was much easier lol
Thank you, this worked out real well.
Excellent! Thanks for watching!

I'm happy to hear we helped you out. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! To find the folder you're looking for open up File Explorer, click on "Local Disk (C:)" in the lefthand pane (under "This PC").
