- You might have too much junk when you find projects to revive just sitting in the back yard! Scratch that, you can never have too much stuff, just not enough storage space!
Needed to move the '84 for some spring cleaning, and rather than drag it with the tractor, figured it could use some run time. This old beast fired up with fairly little drama, as I hoped it would. However, I'm surprised to see how much the rust termites have eaten while it's just been sitting behind the barn. :( Авто/Мото
Craigslist be like “$5500 firm! I know what it’s worth. Just surface rust”
Exactly
This thing would prbly be worth upwards of 4000 here they are getting so rare
@@abccanada6248 they aren’t even that rare. People are just asking insane money for them.
@@KCbuffalo they are pretty rare in bc. I found one that my neighbors have tho (theyve known me since i was born im 18 so still at my parents house cause covid) they have a mint 85 sr5 like 60000km 5 speed. And they said theyd sell it to me for 6000 so im currently tryna pull that together. But all ive seen posted anywhere near me are over 10k unless they look like the one in this vid
Would be a mint buy imo if it was around $400
Old toyotas are the kind of trucks that will out live my un born child
Even rhis one will mate
Unless the frame turns to DUST, like my 96 low mi baby Tacoma.
Holy shit. I remember when you got this truck.
I ran across your videos years ago when I was still driving my 89.
It’s good to see this old girl’s still kicking around. Mine is too.
“Storage”
haha, that's awesome! Yeah, hard to believe it's been that long. Seems like you park stuff thinking you'll get to it next summer, then next thing you know years are going by.
These 80s and 90s small trucks seem to never die
Toyota hilux never die 💪
Besides the frame lol
@@dustinstumbo8144 Old toyotas never die, they just rust away... lol
In the same way, many other brands will rust if they ever get the same as this one. I'm not a fan of a toyota but the fact is that many Japanese car manufacturers are in a more trusted reputation than for example American cars
Top Gear really tough us something
Not a Hi-Lux
The fact that this thing is even cranking is MINDBLOWING. You just can’t be toyota
You will never kill a Toyota 🤙🏻
Looks pretty dead to me
I have seen a Corolla die. timing chain snapped
@@jesseh2277 I have a parts truck with 110,000 miles on the 22R which lost the timing chain. So occasionally the impossible does happen, haha.
My toyota tundra died along time ago for no reason
i put a fist size hole thru the block of my 90 2 yrs ago
I had no doubts it would run. I can even smell it! Good work mate
Haha, thanks man!
I retired my 85 4- runner 8 or 10 times. The last time, it sat for 10 years. Threw a charge on it... fired right up. Lol. Drove out around for a few weeks. Decided to buckle down and just go through it. Rebuilt and upgraded steering and axles(limited slips). Parked it because it had a slight coolant leak at the head... which fixed itself. Lol. Wheeled it at EJS '19. Worked AWESOME.
Love these rigs!!
Those problems that fix themselves are the best, haha.
remembered watching this when i was younger and wanting one being amazed that it started
This year I have owned my 85 toy for 34 years. Love that little guy. good vid.
That's a long time! Thanks, truck is currently getting a little bit of work to make it usable as a yard work truck.
Love the cold start and love the boot shot! Please make more!! Subscribed
jesus, can't believe everything still works! even the power windows! thing looks straight out of that life after people show.
Just got my 85 running today after it sat about 8 months
I miss my 1984 Toyota SR5 Xtracab pickup 4x2. It was sweet.
"Check out that 4x4" - Marty Mcfly
She is good as new
its so impressive. once you get these toyota trucks started up. It'll always start right up smoothly. And remain still being beast! So much respect for the pick ups and 4runners from back in the gen 1-3. Such tanks. But i gotta say, Even from now on. They're still beast af.
I hear ya, it's amazing what these trucks can go through.
That dashboard sure brought back memories. I had an 85 SR5 longbox, first year of fuel injection, last year of solid axle front end. My box rotted away as well. Had that truck 15 years, bought it new. Guess what I traded in when I bought it, 77 FJ40 landcruiser, pretty rusted but nothing like yours.
Nice! That was the peak year in '85, wish there was more of these trucks still around.
As rough as this Toyota truck is currently, it is still worth $1500.00 all day long. Those 22R engine are a jewel find, as are the 22R-E (fuel injection models).
Used truck prices have been crazy lately.
You can't kill hilux🤣🤣🤣
How I loved my old 22R
We're you live en the telephone
Heck yeah! I'm doing this to my 91 that hasn't run in a few years, gives me hope.
Old toyotas are tough!
for sale classic 84 toyota great original condition -hurry it will not last...
Literally, one more winter salt season and she'll be gone folks! Lol
It won't lol. I can't find a 85 or older.
@@toocheaptosmoke this is a northern state truck that surprises me. Salt should of had this truck years ago
She’s a beauty
Holy hell! Thats a project and a half
One of these days it will see the road again, haha.
Some souls, never rest.....
I have that same screwdriver that you were looking for😂
Shit in Florida these are every day type trucks
That's because you guys don't get snow so they don't rust up on you
@@swimmer8585 You guys don't have salt in the air like in Florida.
I’ve seen more rusted out trucks down here in Florida than anywhere in my life lol, we’re stuck on a salt island haha
My truck has little rust but it’s not frame it’s around extended window
@@interexmobiledetailingserv6300 That's no lie, I've lived on the Gulf Coast all my life, all of my vehicles that I use to launch my boat rusted fast. I've got a 1996 Toyota T100 that still runs like a top but I've had the bumper fall off it way too many times haha
Toyota's trucks for life.
Men if u can get that thing fixed and be on the road again you can easily bring a dead body back to life
Haha, it would certainly be a bit of work, but I've seen people bring a lot worse back to road worthy again!
Let's knock it up another notch BAM!
Back to the Future Black Truck right there !!!!, I have a 1987 22 R and just 1 week ago sucked all the 5 year old gas out and it started like a champ!!
Nice, these trucks are tough!
The "old tuna can full of fuel" trick! :)
I got a 86’ no solid front shaft but strong 4x4 transfer case, 5sp Manuel Tranny. Good project truck. Bed on but about rusted. Was running when I parked it. Needs an aftermarket carb. 22re carb. Reg cab & pretty much original. Had a brush guard & headache rack made for her & mounted. $500 come & pick up in Texas, S. of Houston. Clear Blue Texas Title. I just used it as a run around town & ranch truck.
My 2001 Tacoma has as of today 463 thousand miles on her. I bought her from a friend 3 days ago haha. She's a trooper. She has not been babied the last 35,000 miles at ALL. From donuts, to mudholes to burnouts probably on the daily. She has a little lifter tick but what wouldn't after being around the world a few times over. Can't kill a 22RE.
By the way, my buddy pulled the main caps off and said the bearings and caps were free of major scouring and bronzing. If you are knowledgable on how to maintain a car and make sure you change fluids(!!!) Cars tend to last
Nice! Ya, it's amazing how many times a car/engine gets destroyed from poor maintenance rather than age or mileage.
@@toocheaptosmoke yes sir. Maintenance is key and it's sad everything is going from being mechanical to electronic because these days people do not understand what their cars are doing even just idling at a red light. Sad
F....ing amazing, respect!
Dude did that thing have a sun roof, helll yeah
It sure does!
Germany: "well, some of our more heavier and complex tanks didnt work so well during the war, but if we put our minds to it, german engineers could sure make a damm fine car!"
Japan: "atomic bomb bad. build car to survive atomic bomb. good car."
Haha!!
Respect 22r
in my country, the toyota hilux of version 22r, is known by the name 22r, not by hilux, the motor mythic 22r is the one who defines the name
i love them Toyota's fix her up i have a1987 love it good luck
Its restoration time🔥
Eventually I hope to, just using it for plowing and yard duty for now.
I want the gas saver gauge for my truck. Cool video
Them 22r are some tuff motors had one with close to four hundred thousand on it and still ran alright when I sold it
Yeah man, definitely one of toyota's best.
I just finished a 85 Toyota 4wd pickup thay was setting in a field 8 years
What do I have to do to get get you into this truck today?
Feed her some tuna oil
That right is a rock crawler project
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Not sure what's up with all the "dislikes" smh.
Make it the ultimate off-road machine
Is this the cut third truck from Sorcerer?
yeah those wasps are cray cray
I had this truck in a 4X4 standard cab longbed you cant kill them
I have had 11 if these trucks from 79 thru 89 all no rust ...well except the bed
Now I drive a 874X4 that I built a bed on outa wood and it works good
They are tough trucks for sure!
I still watch your videos on the regular but I'm still waiting for a resurrection video of the Back to the Future truck
It will one of these days, for now it's at least back driving with the plow on it. Still got the 85 parts truck and a 90 parts truck with a good frame for when the time comes.
@@toocheaptosmoke when you're done with that it will be the last vehicle if you should ever need... it will outlive all of us
@@Eric-Franks Only if it's not driven in the winter, haha.
Good old fuel filder
Awesome video, Loved it!! I was hoping you'd make more videos about your old Toyotas. What about your 85 grey Toyota that's similar to this one? Around 19:00 shows the tape deck. (I still use cassette tapes too). Try to find an older one from a junkyard with a mechanical tape mechanism with metal parts; I just don't quite trust the newer style electronic ones not to jam. (I'm sure you can tell by listening if it's got flimsy plastic parts). U should've used your "Frame tester 5000" ball peen hammer at 11:30. The soft spots in the frame you mentioned at 0:30 were "factory flex joints" so the frame is not too rigid. 2:55 shows your old "ignition key." Where's the wood-grain repair panel that came from a dehumidifier? At 14:25, do you remember, the E-brake was actually a block of wood you kept in the bed. (17:00) At least you don't quite have the "inspection windows" in the floor boards like the other truck, but whatever happened to the wooden ones? Great to see the ol 22R "purring like a kitten" again, thanks to the presence of the cats (12:10). Truck's got some fun memories, hope you make more vids of this truck real soon!!!!!!!!!!
haha, wow, talk about a trip down memory lane! I still have the grey '85, it's just sitting, waiting... I also have a '90 2wd truck with a blown timing chain but a good frame for parts, all together I have enough parts to make one solid truck. Just need to find the time to get to it... One good thing though, it now looks like someone is making patch panels for the 84-88 beds, so that might make things a bit easier there. Thanks for watching!
Shit, and mine 91 4runner looks mint and cant start for over a month now. Hope I hear this magic "Vroooom!" again soon!
He went back in time.......briefly.
things mint
I've always wanted 1 of these in a 2 wheel drive version
The 2wd ones are great for commuting and pretty good on fuel too.
What did you end up doing with this truck ?
Awesome!! 😎👏
Thanks! 😁
what tires were you running on this ol girl? I have a 1988 ford ranger i wanna have the similar stance with meats
Those are 33x12.50R15
Just put a cheap mechanical pump on engine never worry again. We called mine the beast. That thing work amd went anywhere
Literally sounds like a push mower/ 2 stroke weed eater
Backed into a filing cabinet haha
I had a 92 22RE , best truck i had in a long time the only thing who will kill those are rust !!
What’d u end up doing with that old beater? Love these old Yota’s man. My 89 w/ 22re is still my daily driver.
Still got it, ended up putting a snow plow on it. Hope to put it back on the road someday.
Tough trucker's and a lot more simple then an F-250 or a Chevy as it's smaller in size
Does the coolant temperature gauge work?
Yup, sometimes you gotta smack the dash though, haha.
you can part it out for a good bit of money. That Quartz clock and the dash bezels you name it they are worth money.
I've seen the sr5 4runners of this era bring some crazy money! :O
what tires cool rims bad ass
Coincidentally I had a problem like that with my car except my car wasn't standing for 5 years...more like 5 months and it wouldn't start. *BUT* when it did start it passed alot of snog and you had to rev it profusely
"Someday Jennifer... someday" ♥😋 😎
Haha, nice.
You kinda sound like a older gasman from quadricers lol
Attention 2 Detail Automotive Towing And Detailing omg ikr
Attention 2 Detail Automotive Towing And Detailing yeah ikr
i lo9ve quadricers (quad racers)
This reminds me, what happened with the diesel land cruiser?
It's still up north at my friends place, hasn't been ran for a couple years cause it's been too wet the last couple times I was up there to wheel it.
@@toocheaptosmoke lmk if you want to sell it lol
Toyota Hilux. The AK-47 of trucks.
lol i just stripped and painted my 85 frame because i thought some light surface rust was bad that thing looks like its gonna break in half
You have gold with those electric windows and door panels
Haha, maybe, guess you don't see too many around with that option?
toocheaptosmoke very difficult to find. For a good price actually. There are trucks around that have them but they're expensive
Just keep giving her
what is the function of the transmission control relay toyota SR5 1985
Not really sure, but probably something to do with overdrive or torque converter lockup on an automatic?
What dose the dodge look like?
You should do a restoration project on it I would be keen to watch
Maybe eventually, it could be a "Hack to the Future" style truck.
That would be sick!!
Hey do you still have the wheels on this and would you be willing to sell them?
I do, but currently using them as rollers on one of my parts truck.
You still got this? Did u fix it up
Yup, still got it, currently being used as a plow truck.
My dad has a 1984 with a Million kilometers in it . Still runs , daily driver
Sweet!
what size tires
33x12.50's on it right now
Fueron buenos carros
@toocheaptosmoke: Where are you from?
Western PA
You get it goin?
Making a plow setup for it right now, so it will be getting some off highway use at least.
holy crap, man! Do you live in a salt marsh?
In the winter when they put down magnesium chloride brine, yes. Lol
Salt marsh, Pennsylvania... in the winter it's the same thing, really.
Always wanted one. But they want crazy money for them here in pa. Especially the ones that aren't all rotted out.
Yeah, it's really hard to find one not completely trashed.
toocheaptosmoke funny thing is i bought a 93 ranger!!! Lol, but check it out. 470,000 miles 2.3 ltr 5speed 2wd. Rust free in Pa. Just wanted something to run to work so i don't hog up my car n haul motorcycle and snowmobile. V8 swap in the future!!!
break line, fuel line and timing guards, the 3 most likely things to break in an ol yota.
And the frame, if you live in the rust belt... haha
toocheaptosmoke haha forgot bout that, they really do like to rust, gotta watchout for that frame rot
swap a new v6 in it they're like 1k if jdm imported depending where ya live
Dalton Newbold did you not listen. Truck can’t go on road because of soft spots and rust issues
Man it's sad because it's such a strong truck buts it's just going to rust away
I hear ya, at least it's not in the scrap yard yet!
I hit Like because I love Hilux.
What exactly was that living on the rocker cover lol
Mud dauber wasps. Those, masonry bees, and carpenter bees are my top three despised stinging insects that do more damage than just inflict pain!
This why terrorist around the world love these cars. They are the toughest cars in the world.
It's a truck
Build it, that thing is amazing.. might even get to pick up a few subscribers along the way
Haha, I think it will definitely happen at some point, too cool of a truck to not get back on the road.
Lol the best part of that truck was the Dodge part in the back at 1:03 lol
