    I caught a thief in my Honda S2000 which i left unlocked at a Acura dealer. I was freaked out because I coudn't remember if I had my conceal carry Glock in the car. Luckily unlike today the Thief obeyed and got out of the car and started spewing lies about how he works for the dealer, he was checking the car, etc. I let him go and still to this day he doesn't realize he almost caught several federal firearms charges on top of theft.

      You can keep it running if you lock the doors. The issue is when you do not lock the doors, then someone can drive off with it.

      Me personally id never leave my car running and walk away from it plain simple but its at least good to know where the options lay to secure if a person does.

      You have to lock the car with the key fob if you leave it running and walk away from it. You cannot lock it from inside, that won't work.

    I have 2 air tags in my Z. Also have a throttle controller that allows me to put it in Valet Mode (limp mode) through an app on my phone. I’m probably a little extra about my car but I’d hate to go through all that crap dealing with insurance.

    Manufacturers are in the business of selling cars, actually engineering them to make them much harder to steal is bad for sales
    How about making a video with different types of hardware and software that Corvette owners can use to help to keep their Corvettes where they belong

    After I watched this, I feel better about my C8 not being that easy to steal as long as there isn’t negligence involved. The cold hard fact is that pro thieves will steal whatever they can, and there’s not much you can do about that. Thanks for the list of ways it can happen.

    • @NuHorizonC8
      @NuHorizonC8  8 месяцев назад

      Glad it could help! Yeah thats the reality that pros theives will steal what they want and not much that will stop them. But its good to see if you do the due diligence, it covers alot of other potential cases. Thanks for commenting!

    Great program! Helpful to remind us that it just takes a moment to take your unlocked car. Also to be mindful of what we need to do when we hand our car to a 3rd party, for any reason.

      Hey Gordon thanks for the comment and I absolutely agree. I'm definitely going to take the extra step to vet a third party if im ever needing to hand the keys to someone like a transport company.

    I totally understand why OnStar wouldn't give the location without police, because it is a privacy concern. They can't just give out addresses because if they are wrong, they will destroy someone's reputation and frankly it makes sense to have cops with you anyway.

    • @NuHorizonC8
      @NuHorizonC8  7 месяцев назад +1

      Oh i totally agree on why Onstar wouldnt give the location without a decent amount of documentation to go with it. Its definitly one of those unfortunate situation if its the real deal going on and your having to wait on police, id hate to be in that position waiting. Thanks for commenting! 🙏😎👍

      @@NuHorizonC8 Absolutely, and I am no fan of the police these days. But at least we can build in some privacy protection that they HAVE to follow, unlike Tesla who will just record you in your own car and then pass the videos around. Getting my vette soon!

    Never valet any car but on that point, why isn't there a true valet mode, there are a few things that could be done to implement this. Activate PDR if equipped, severely limit power, disallow manual shifting, limit rev range even when in Park or Neutral, note any aggressive control inputs (especially useful if no PDR), display a message on the digital dash (maybe "Valet Mode - Your actions are being recorded"). Display indication of attempted aggressive driving on next startup.

    • @NuHorizonC8
      @NuHorizonC8  8 месяцев назад +2

      Hey Hank thanks for the comment! There is a valet mode on the C8. Valet mode for sure keeps certain aspects of the car limited like you had said including pdr, rev and speed limited. so its definitely a start if the car were to get stolen after its been valet.

      This works. But my Vette got stolen where my FOB was nowhere near it. Thieves used a high-end electronic tool to create a new digital key and drive off.
      The Club, a hidden on/off switch to kill a circuit loop to the fuel pump , etc are helpful.

    Well looking at the C8 getting stolen and transponder removed that's sounds to easy and should be located in hard place to get to and be installed in safe lock box that can't be opened by anyone or only by the dealer. Also I guess there were some C8's stolen through the use of OBD2 type device to start the car.

    I watched your video as the result of the search string “how are modern day corvettes stolen.” Really sad that you really gave no info on how or beauties are stolen. I mean the actual method. You only recounted a bunch of vehicles stolen in a no brainer method ie left keys in car unlocked. Not so hard since the vehicle won’t lock with the keys in it. My friend parked his car in a hotel in good ole Memphis. The gift in it and drove off; friend had keys. But maybe someone gets something out of your video

    Tip: If you don't have a garage, always cover your car with a weatherproof car cover when parked (locked!) in your driveway. Opportunity thefts occur often on sight and must be quick and easy. When your beauty is covered, it is less clear what's underneath it (it can be a car that needs a lot of TLC...), and it takes extra time to remove the cover versus a car without one. Besides, the car cover protects your beauty against the elements. Win-win. Lastly, install a security camera facing and monitoring your car. All cheap and easy to do.

    • @NuHorizonC8
      @NuHorizonC8  8 месяцев назад

      That's a great tip! It's always better to take precautions and protect your car from potential thefts. Plus, the added benefit of protecting it from the elements is a win-win situation.
