I tried following along but once I highlighted a layer like you did to change the words, it ended up highlighting the individual letters instead of the entire field like yours. I have a .ai file from fiverr that I want to change the letters but can't figure out how to change them.
So frustrating, I am trying to learn how to edit a template file, specifically the text. The directions here simply do not help. I get to 3:39 and the directions fail. It does not highlight the text it selects the paths of each letter. I have literally spent hours looking for tutorials to learn how to edit text from an anothers authors file.
It usually means that you're not trying to edit "text" but the converted paths (the designer probably converted the text to paths). Designers do this frequently for consistency reasons, after the conversion to paths, it won't change the look (cannot be sure that the customer has that specific font installed/licensed a.s.o.).
LVR so is there any way to fix this. I downloaded a template file that’s a neon sign “now open” from Adobe stock and I want to edit it to my own text but cannot. Please help me bro

I'm here wondering why it's not being explained
Me too bro! I'm beginning to think Illustrator can't do it! It's sooo frustrating!
