In this problem the stress along z direction is less compared to x and y so can we say this problem as a combination of both plane stress and strain as you said in the tunnel problem ?
This is happened because of loading condition.
please check loading condition in both cases.
Sir, is it enough to select displacement only? Why you did extra support as (cylindrical support)?
Sir, can we analyze here by taking a thin ring of inner and outer dia.

Sir why we have to select mid surface.??..It is just because there will be no deformation in the direction of z...
No Its not logic behind that.
Actually we have selected because we are using 2D element. It saves our time.
Now for theory purpose read good Book. I will suggest you to have a look on Gokhale.
