How to build a DIY Miter Saw Stand. This mobile miter saw station has been the backbone of my shop for almost 5 years now, only second to my table saw. It has production stop blocks with an adjustable fence for easy repeatable cuts. The folding wings give almost 4’ of support on both sides so you can easily cut 8’ material. The coolest part of this miter saw stand though is the automated dust collection. I used a cyclone dust collection top on a 5 gallon bucket along with a shop vac and an automated relay. When the miter saw turns on the shop vac turns on and stays on for 5 seconds afterwards. If you’ve been looking for DIY miter saw stand plans I think you’ll love these! Хобби

how about metric plans? would make things a lot easier for a lot of us i guess
I'm getting closer to going to metric plans as well. It's just a time vs. reward type thing.
Most measuring tapes have both metric and standard on them
@@kevina5688 still, if u NEVER use "standard" it can get very difficult or a reason for lots of mistakes. Would rather recalculate everything before I start
@@Knatterbart I was thinking that a measuring tape with both metric and standard measure, would make converting to metric much faster. I use one with both and have not had any issues. Being 🇨🇦 l use metric alot
I love building shop projects more than house projects
My wife has wanted a painting table with a flip up side. This is exactly what I am looking for to make that project. That and redo my own miter station to be a bit more mobile, so that I can reclaim some space in the shop. Great build, Brad!
BTW all the plans are extremely well done. Thank you.
Thanks for proving these great instructional videos! You are very easy to listen, and learn from due to your fun loving attitude, clear voice, and explaining things as you go.
Good project, Brad. Thanks for revealing the amount of 3/4 ply needed, right at the beginning of the video. That kept my attention.
Thinking of buying a mitre saw so this video was perfect for me. 👍🏼
Thanks for the easy to follow plans. I've built 2 sets of base cabinets and the bench with pegboard hutch with one slight modification (shelves with cabinet door instead of drawers on one side). I just picked up this plan set and it will be my next project. I've been needing a mobile miter saw station and fatigued with manually moving my saw all over. I like the mobility. I will build this next and then start in on upper cabinets and then more base cabinets. I've installed electrical outlets and power strips so the bench systems are fully functional. It's already made a huge difference in my garage. Thanks again.
Awesome! Glad your building out an awesome workshop to enjoy! 💪 💪
Thanks for showing how and sharing that, well done!
I built that!
I am so happy! The plans were easy to follow and the result was a well built miter cart!
bought the plans, and all the supplies last night. I'm excited for the build.
Have fun with it!
Been waiting for this!
Just ordered the plans for this! Looking forward to building it soon!!
When I used your plans to build mine, my dust collection is a Buckethead on a 5 gallon pail, w/the bottom compartment lined in Rockwool for some sound absorption. Finally I put a quick disconnect on the hose connecting to the saw so I can use a short hose for cleaning up the area around the saw of sawdust in 5 second bursts from the delay of the relay. Generally only takes about 3 bursts of the saw to vacuum up all the errant sawdust that didn't get sucked up the 1st time!
Between April's vid and yours, I've got some great ideas for my own stand. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! Have fund with it!
and since Brad's is plagiarized from Drew Fisher, you could add his great ideas too!
@@RainDog222222 Serious? This stand has been built about 1000 times on youtube. I doubt he saw Fishers video and decided thats the one!!
I bought April's plans for the first stand I made. Bought a new saw that does not fit. Second time around I want to fancy it up, so this time...tag this plan is it. Purchased all the Kreg fancy pieces...tomorrow I start.
Another great video. Thank you so much. I got the plans for the planer/sander flip top and I’m hoping to make it next weekend.
just completed the miter saw stand build up to the point of adding the fences. a local lumber company got an insane deal on 3/4" baltic birch plywood with melamine on one side for $48.00 per 4x8 sheet and thats what I made the miter stand with. I am being too exited about how the wings fold up and fit so well. Your plan is awesome!!
I built this from your plans about 6 months ago. It has been my favorite tool stand, and is incredibly useful. My son will even play with it and pretend it’s a transformer. 😆. (With the saw unplugged of course). Keep up the great work!
That's awesome! Glad you're loving it!
Looks great! Awesome project! Sweet vid! And that's what I appreciate about ya.
Ok squirrelly Dan
Awesome build video! I just bought the plans and am excited to add this to the shop. I was planning in going with the same dust collection setup and I’m curious to hear how the 4 hp shop vac performed over the years. Thanks!
This is an excellent build! I want the compact size of this style but really wanted the positive stop feature. You gave me both. Thanks
Love all your videos and I am building this over the weekend. Also, with your advertising/sponsors. It is so smart to have the ad run while you are doing the build in the background. Keeps my eyes on the ad because I don't want to miss the build! SMART
I thought you had a video for this. I bought your plans for this earlier in the year. By far one of my favorite additions in my garage, as I don't have the room for a fixed mitter station.
glad you're loving it and thanks for the support!
Dude, love your channel. Have been watching non-stop! Great, creative, ideas!
One of my best shop builds. A must have
agreed!
Your builds are really nice and easy to follow. I may have to get this one and your flip top stand plans for my 1car garage shop. Only change I would make is maybe go with the no fence style wings others are doing now to make it a few inches more compact.
Loved it, bought plans, plan to build soon 👍
What a great video. Thanks for you instructions.
I like the extras to this stand Brad! Lots of good ideas!
thanks!
I love this build and all your work! Have you ever tried relief cuts? They work great for tight spaces like on the finger holds. Thanks for sharing your build!!👏
Thanks for the inspiration. I used your nested support design for mine.
"a little bit too meta for me ..." XD .. and you get my subscribe for that one. Great video :D
Just ordered your bundle pack. I actually started to build one before seeing your vid. I started cutting my side depth to 18. Hope I can still make it work . Just one peice/side.
My God Man! SLOW DOWN!
Great content, just getting anxious listening to it!
haha, I was literally looking for the video for this last night!! I guess I looked 24 hours too soon. I bought the plans a couple months ago and i'm now ready to put it together. Thanks for posting the video!!
Sweet! You can download the new plans using the same e-mail.
@@Fixthisbuildthat Awesome!! Another question I had for you was what setting do you keep your drill at when screwing in pocket screws? I always feel like I either don't get them tight enough or I blast right through my material.
Beautiful, love it
Excelente trabajo , muy util y sencillo , un diez de calificacion.... Saludos desde argentina ....
Pretty cool. I like it!
great idea and well done. Like the drop down wings with adjustable height. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
Excellent! Thank you.
This is another great video. I just purchased the plans. I would like to add the Kreg accessories . The stop block and tape measures would surely be helpful. Could you tell us more about the Kreg track and the measuring tape? How do you set the left and right measuring tapes up so that you get an accurate measurement from the center of the saw blade?
I finished mine last spring! It isn't as perfectionist as yours but I love the wings and after I got my saw's dust chute fixed to work with the vac it is pretty slick. Nice that you now have the video...at a couple points I could have used that! LOL
Nice work! Glad to see an accompanied video to this infamous set of plans. I noticed you emphasized not wanting to do drawers (dagger to my heart). I really liked the handles I need to add that. One small and easy thing I added was some magnets to the ends of the wings and side of the body so that when I put the arms down the wings didn't bang, works great! Nice Work!
Great addition with the magnets, Taylor. Love little details like that
You have become my favorite channel Brad. I feel like everything you make for your shop, I've either been wanting to make or have already made (but yours are better). Can't wait to buy plans for this and make it!!!
Thanks, Christian! Glad you're enjoying the builds
Great job very nice 👍!!!
Wicked build Brad! Killing it!
Thanks!
First time viewer, impressed with your approach, video format & editing and easy going commentary. I was so impressed that I'm now a new sub.
I love the fact that you are thorough with information like your tool list, material decisions and design approach.
All in all, I learned some new tricks ... and for an old dog like myself, that's quite the accomplishment.
Cheers, dave
Lovely build. One of the things I liked about April’s build is that she set the height of the top shelf based off the height of the miter saw she had. This way you don’t have to worry about shimming up the saw. Can you also post of video or blog post reviewing the dust separator?
Yep, that's a cool aspect of April's!
Great job!
great project! i gotta say though, i couldnt stop keeping track of how many different battery brands and voltages you must have to charge, got a bit of everything :P
Brad nailed it with this one ☝️
😀👍
Love the cabinets😊
"and everytime I see those screws it'll itch that little scratch for me"....😂😂😂😂😂 love it
Watched this video a few times because I'll be building it soon, it will help save me some space in my tiny workshop. Did you ever get around to making a video on a dust hood for it?
Very cool design!
thanks!
Another quarantine project I built to improve my shop. Thanks, Brad. Great plans. Could have used one more dimension on the cutoff of the wings, but ultimately it wasn't critical. How has the 4-gallon vacuum worked for you? Does it provide enough suction? Thanks.
Great Job, thanks!
You're welcome!
I really like your channel, your perfectionism makes it so enjoyable to watch your videos. It has definitely improved my eye for detail when I prepare stuff. As I am from Europe, do you have the plans also available in metric units?
really like the sturdiness of this build, thanks for you clarity. checked out plans and wonder if you provide them in decimal for those of us not in US.
I have absolutely no use for a mitre saw rn but I still watched the entire video
Built it this weekend. Love it. Paid for the plans for appreciation, but didn’t really use the measurements. Wanted it match my work table height. Thanks
appreciate the support and hope you enjoy the build!
Great build. I’m going through videos of miter stations to find one I like and I like yours. btw, how do you like that Armor workbench? I’m thinking of getting one
Awesome inspiration. Definitely get better vac suction with a shorter house and less bends in the hose that causes extra friction I think.
I built this a few weeks ago. I got Miter Saw and Flip Top Cart Combo plans.
I haven't hooked up the Vac in the cart yet and only have the Kreg top trak on the left side.
I have a Dewalt 8 1/2 inch sliding Miter Saw on the stand...I think I will try to build a dust hood for it.
I really like the miter saw stand and the flip top cart...Nice designs Brad.
Glad you're enjoying the cart, Walter!
Dust hoods help a great deal as the chop saws tend to spray high and wide! You could even have a little drop tray or suction port in the back to catch the dust.
As always a great build. I look forward to each and everyone of your how to videos. Where did you get your casters from?
Have you thought about putting a door to cover the shop vac and separator? You could line it with egg carton foam to reduce the noise of the shop vac. Awesome build! I enjoyed the breakdown of each step.
Interesting idea! Could be a nice noise reducer with proper airflow allowed
Awesome plans. I built this in two days this week. Tricked it out with everything Brad recommended. Definitely a huge upgrade to my current miter saw setup. And I am liking the idea of having my table tools on wheels. Built 5 of Brads designs over the last month...really enjoying finally getting organized. Thanks Brad.
Wow, that's awesome! Glad you're getting some building knocked out during these times 💪
Hey Brad. Amazing mobile miter cart. I bought the plans. I’ve been building mine. Though the video makes it look a lot quicker build. I’ve been working on this project for some time due to life getting in the way (lol). I’m starting to see the light at the end of tunnel. Thank you for you ideas.
You've got this! 💪 💪
Joli travail bravo salut Jeannot 🛠😉
I notice that you favor Ridgid tools. You gotta love the warranty, By the way, great miter saw stand.
So great.
Thanks! I bought the bundle. It's now Jan 2021. The Miter stand is going to cost about $500cnd to make. That's with all the aluminum track, stops and upgrades. Crazy!
yeah, wood prices have gotten out of hand
Hey Brad, love your vids! Your shop is super Neet and your dust collection set up seems first class! Just checked through your vids and couldn’t find one on your dust collection set up, any chance you have one in the pipeline? I’m in the process of turning garage into a workshop and all the dust tips shared the better 🙏 the automatic vac looks the go for sure
DAMN!! What a great set up!!! That's a really nice setup. and love the folding wings to make it flexible and compact when not in us...WELL DONE!
Got a little woodworking woodie thinking about building my own. lol
Thanks for sharing!
Glad you dug it!
Yah, it’s a very good design. I built it about 2006. Can’t remember where the plans came from. It’s great because of the drop down wings. What I have not done is build a dedicated dust funnel. Maybe this year Your shop is well appointed and neat.
Brad what do you think of the Kreg ACS table and saw? Been looking into it and would like to hear what you think of it!
Just finished mine. It will work well to roll out and store in my garage. Thanks.
I have a photo if you like.
Nice one 👍👌
Awesome
Well done
"I'm a good plan maker, but not a good plan follower."
I feel this.
Hey Brad, great plans and fun build. I'm about to wrap it up and discovered that the standard 1-1/2" piano hinge from Home Depot has way too much play for the wings. Lateral movement front to back at the end of the wing is unbelievable. Home Depot's hinge is is very loose at the pin between the leafs. Perhaps there is a heavier hinge that you can recommend or I may try to use a pair of standard door hinges with 1/4" pin for each wing. Keep up the good work! Thanks!
Hey, Ken. Those hinges have gone downhill it seems. I'd try a small utility hinge like a door hing but smaller. Thing thr door size would be too large
Thanks for sharing, great resource, excited to start building my own, where do you buy this level of quality plywood?
Hey Brad, love the design and the video. You totally inspired me and I just built one myself. Haven't had a chance to use it yet though, but I'm wondering - are your wings super solid, or do they move around a bit? My wings move a little, but I'm thinking I may have bought cheap piano hinges. I also shorted my wing support to about 12-14" tall at the hinge, which could be contributing.
You'll have a little big of wiggle in most hinges (more in cheaper ones). Just register it to the same spot when calibrating and cutting.
Brad: I want to thank you for publishing this video and am purchasing the plans. I have a 12" Dewalt Compound Sliding Miter Saw and a contractor stand. Since I am getting up in years the 12" miter saw is just getting to heavy to store and then have to set it up on the contractor stand every time I need want to do a project. This seems to be a great solution for my limited shop space, which seems to be a common issue for most weekend, project, woodworkers. I have read a lot of comments and there are some concerns expressed about strength of the wings. My thoughts are that they are pretty strong as the weight on the outside of wings is transferred to the bottom of the cabinet.
One question: Could sanded 3/4" pine be used instead of birch plywood? I know that the birch looks nicer but is there any strength reason you chose birch?
Got this set of plans and two others. Brad we need a portable bench top jointer stand with extension wings. I can see how modifying the Miter Saw stand would work. I challenge thee.
Love the casters you’re using. Would you happen to have a link to those?
Terrific build Brad! Great set up for sure. Now you need to install a drawer at the top & doors to hide the dust collection, just saying................. :)
Nice build! Glad to see someone finally building a miter station NOT specifically built for the saw they happen to own right now. What happens when (not if) they replace their saw and the new one is *taller* than what the station was built for?
It seems to me you have a great deal of faith in fasteners between the plies. Nevertheless, those are all fine improvements on the basic design. Yours is as good enough project that I've watched it three times now. Thank you.
I have a Wen planer that produces a good bit of snipe. I've McGyvered a longer bed which helps but it just doesn't work for my garage shop. I have thought about making this stand but modifying it for my planer. Using the wings, again modified for the planer, would provide a significant bed and would go a long way towards reducing snipe. I would love to hear any and all comments and suggestions. Love this channel.
This is one of the best miter saw stands I've seen out there! Really nice to have separate dust collection on board instead of having to run a hose each time too.
Thanks, David! I totally agree
Love this project and I am going to be purchasing your plans for this very soon. My miter saw station is in need of an upgrade. Your milwaukee impact gun you are using, what model is that one?
Excellent video! I bought the plan, what casters did you use?
Everbilt 3" casters from Home Depot
This 74-year-old is delighted America is still making young men like this.
Nice build ,I need to make one! Where do u get your plywood? I use the pure bond Baltic birch from Home Depot but it doesn’t seem to have as many plys as what I see u using
Great video Brad. My only question is where am i going to put other shop stand in my garage
Cars out first, kid's stuff out second 😀
Great Build! Wish there anyone a metric version.
Awesome miter stand, I just purchased your plans I have a question. Do you install tape measure on the right side of the saw? If so what measurements would be on the right side ? Thanks
Ive been waiting for this video lol
