Drinking this right now. Totally agree with you, I've got 3 or 4 beers that it reminds me of, but it is still 'Peculier' to me. Very enjoyable and will definitely buy again. 👍 Cheers! 🍻
Thanks so much for doing this review mate, I had pretty much the same thoughts as you when I first tried it. When you pour it, its almost as black as Guinness, yet drink like an ale - very peculiar indeed. I know actively look for this in the shop as I really enjoy it. Thanks again and keep up the great reviews - cheers stew 🍻
This is a great beer, one of my favourite, along with, king goblin, Abbott reserve, old crafty hen, Exmoor beast, keep up the great work. Would have given it myself 8.5👍😁
@@BriggsonBeer Ok, I got my bottle and it didn't disappoint! It's much like a Munich Swatzbeer, a dark lager! Try Krombacher Dark, I'd say this is more rounded, the latter has a much more separation of the fruit and bitter flavours, in a start and finish sort of way - fruit then bitter Chocolate/coffee!
tried this myself for the first time today and enjoyed it very much, looked like a Guinness when poured but tasted like an ale. also gave off liquorice flavors to me, overall gonna be one I think i'll be going back for! thanks for the review!
This is in my all time top 10. As usual your analysis is absolutely top notch. I especially enjoyed your dawning realisation that the beer's name is totally apt. With regard to its uniqueness, may I point you towards OTT produced by the Hogs Back Brewery. As of right now, its the closest taste I have had so far to OP. But there are too many beers and too few days left to drink them all.....
This is great if u want an evening from the norm, smell is fruity, had some spicy crisps with this and the fruity taste is still there, 3 for 4 (6.30) in asda at the moment..... had this up in buxton on tap years ago.... very nice if u want a change from the norm..... :)
Holds a special place in my heart as my old man’s favourite beer. Better on cask, has more body and less carbonation basically. Great review as always 👍
Pronounced “massam”. Well worth a trip for a weekend stay lovely little market town few good pub and the two rival breweries either side of town theakstons brewery and black sheep brewery
Evening, Paul. Great beer, got pi55ed on this as my initiation into the print trade many, many, many years ago. Bit of a low score there, though. You hadn't put it in the fridge, had you? COYS
That right there is my papas favourite beer mate.. don’t mind it myself bud👍 picked up a bottle of delirium and the peanut butter and jelly northern monk😃
I might just have to disagree with you on the scoring, sorry. I'd give it 9/10 just because I cannot see any way to improve it, apart from maybe not filtering or pasteurising it. Any change in the recipe would just take something away from what it already is. It does what it does and it does it well, a great allrounder
There's something about this review that reminds me why I've not had one of these for ages- it's nice enough but doesn't stick in my mind enough to make me buy another one.
It's a good one for a boozy session. I like that it says it's unpasteurised. Seems to taste as it did a few years ago too, which is a nice thing in this corporate age of penny pinching boardroom bastards
Enjoyed that video Paul. Lots of flavours in one beer it seems . I see cards hanging up. Is it your Wedding anniversary? If so it has gone quick & Happy anniversary
Try this in Yorkshire pulled from a wooden cask, it really will blow your mind
One of the best
Absolute stunner is this
Can't wait for the pubs open again to try this beaut.
Sounds amazing
Goes really well with great friends, had many a pint of Old Peculier, shame we live in the South East, never seen any of it down this way.
Its sold in every Tesco or Saintsbury's I've been in
Old P - my absolute fav!

Cheers for your kind words pal. Much appreciated 👍🍻👏😀
Pro tip : you can watch movies on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Zahir Dexter Yup, I've been watching on Flixzone for since november myself :)

old crafty hen is a good one had my second one yesterday and it seemed even better than the first time!
Had four pints of this at the Hodden Horse, north of Ashford many years ago. When I stood up to go to the loo the whole pub was spinning
Easily done mate. Strong beer on the quiet that one 😆
Highly recommend this in a steak and ale pie...as well as for supping of course
my dad used to add it to his lancashire hotpot, it's my go to cooking ale
You've sold it to me! I've never drank this, but will pick one up for this weekend!
Steve, you have good taste! 🍻👏👍😀
Likewise buddy

This is my favourite ale. Nectar of the gods.
I used those exact words to describe it many years ago on Facebook!
What a brew! Looking forward to the next Livestream.
This is always a winner for me. I regularly buy It. Great job.
Ha ha I really thought you had a matching Tee at first
Can't remember the last time I had this. Might even pick up a bottle for the weekend after watching this. Cheers mate.
Ah, the Yorkshire legend! 👏👍🍻 Cheers...
Amazing brew. A winter staple for me.

Sounds fantastic. I’ll have to look into that
I've been to the Black Sheep Brewery when I was just a lad... quite a lovely tour.. I'm back in the states now though
@@paulsbeerreviews Southerners never come up north.
This beer surprised me. Really like it myself 🤤

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. Bit smashed after a 'extra spicy challenge' vindaloo. This beer is awesome.
I'd say it's a strong dark mild - it's excellent.
Been to the 2 brewery’s at masham, Theakstons & black sheep. Best beer I’ve ever drunk.
What an ale, stands boldy on its own!! Haha cheers Paul
£1.49... B&M... result. Wonderful beer. Amazng on cask in Yorkshire. Strangely sessionable. Balance is the word.
"The official of perculiar of masham 1747..... whatever that means???" I laughed so hard xD
Not had this in years, may have to have another look at it, great review Paul, as always

Great review!! A fantastic dark in my humble opinion
OP with strong cheddar, yum.
Great review and it's a very nice pint indeed
Great beer, I’d describe it as a Stout flavoured Ale with some subtle dark fruit flavours.
It’s different.
Quality beer this one, funnily enough prefer it from the bottle than on tap.
There's something about this review that reminds me why I've not had one of these for ages- it's nice enough but doesn't stick in my mind enough to make me buy another one.
My perfect combination with a Hungarian Goulash at the Dog and Gun pub in Keswick
Hungarian Goulash? Blimey
Used to be able to get this on draught, which was a great pint back when I had a life... 😅 Still a nice drink though... 😉
tried it for the first time on tap yesterday in Wetherspoons of all places! Seemed a bit more stouty and smoother than the bottled version

That glass is missing a handle :)
it's a excellent drink , have drunk it many times

No Anniversary yet mate. It was Abi’s birthday this week, so lots of birthday cards.
Cherry coke
Nice
Be good to say the ABV?
Did I not? Apologies, it’s 5.6%
Cheers 🍻
No need to apologise, Paul. You clearly stated it -- 13 seconds in! 👍
