at the end you can see her explaining why she couldn't make it last year. I can't make out what she says but Ellen says "i'm so sorry" so I think it must be about her dad who was ill at the time and sadly died shortly after the Emmys.
I have a feeling that she was covering herself because at the very end when their mics were turned off, they looked really serious and Ellen looks like she was saying sorry and Marishka was explaining something.
