- Excerpts from a May 25, 2016 speech by former Mets player and manager Bobby Valentin on an event that occurred on Jn 9, 1999. bobby played for the Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Mets and Mariners batting .260. He managed for American, National and Japanese League teams..
They actually did go 40-15 after that loss to the Yankees, but 55 games later wasn't September 1, it was August 6.
Cool story. Also cool that Pat Mahomes Sr was pitching during this!
This is why I love baseball
Bobby tells a famous story and forgets what the actual call was. It was catcher's interference, not a catchers balk. If it was a balk then how did the batter end up getting first base? The runner was safe at second regardless. Piazza caught the ball basically in fair territory before it ever got the the plate which technically speaking prevented the batter from having an opportunity to hit the ball.
Dude, I will ride all day w an employee like Bobby V. Dedication to the game, and its (now-dead) tradition of having a few permanently concussed managers in hi profile spots like the Mets.
He got a bad rap in Boston. They loved him in Japan
I went “incognito”
The best (and next?) manager of the New York Mets, Bobby Valentine!!!
This is funny stuff
I thought the ump caught him and yelled at him that's a fine...
Who was that writer?
Think it was Jack Curry or Jason Diamos
This dudes a joke
