Don’t get me wrong I love the idea and having a new system put together in the US. But when I watch those games I sometimes get the vibes of an “open gym” instead of a competitive match. Yes, every athlete gives 100%, but I miss the anger during timeouts or a coach being mad at the side of the court because the players don’t follow the game plan.

    • @oscorpio1365
      @oscorpio1365 2 года назад +1

this is veery beneficial though if any players decide to play over seas, they will have the presence of mind to not only listen to their coaches but be REAL leaders out there on the court and make sure the team is playing together, always communicating, etc. I love that this format gives more power to the players, it’s more pressure on them.

I absolutely love watching AU and it's format keeps the game interesting! Personally I would pick a setter first then libero because you need a leader on offense and defense to run a well balanced game. But it also depends on what position in the draft I'm choosing bc power hitters with good defense can arguably be a great 2nd choice if available. Side note: I hate that 1 setting error is -12, the setting scores don't really balance out to make them as competitive to be on the top of the leader board.

I think it's an interesting format, but I don't think this is the best way to go for growing the game. With sports being the way they are it's much easier to follow a team with a 'brand name' behind it that carries weight like Perugia or Modena than individual players. the scoring system is also hard to track in game, so it's hard to care when it pops up at the end.

    • @mariana6557

Agreed, volleyball is much better the way it's played now than au's way. Amazing how Americans can turn a team event into an individual one 😅

  • @KyleHandles

Setter is definitely #1 - controls the ENTIRE game, Get a Solid middle - the difference between a good middle and a decent middle is EXTREME, I would go Oppo next for blocking purposes against OH - where most of the sets go, so stopping them from pounding every ball is important.. THEN 2 consistent aggessive OH's - then feed liberos. There are a million top-tier liberos. That's my take!!!

    Strat in terms of priority:
    1. Setter
    2. Middle
    3. Libero
    4. Outside
    5. Opposite
Focus the team around a defensive shut down lineup on both blocking and receiving. Setter gets priority because a good setter can bring out the best in the priority 4-5 outside/opposite.

From my perspective how I would draft. I would choose setters first because they're really vital to the tempo of the game. A team with an special setter can bring out the best of the abilities for any player, even including liberos. I would then draft libero 2nd as you need the anchor of the team. Many times liberos get overlooked because they come in and out but they're one of the most important roles in the team. Having a great defensive player is like having a vortex effect. Your teammates actually play around you lol. The ball always somehow gets to the libero for some off reason. Next I will go into hitters, depending on what is left of the choices, I would go for a player with high hitting IQ. Clearly at this level everyone is a powerhouse hitter, some may be more powerful or "better" at hitting. But having a smart hitter creates options. In combination with a high IQ setter and high IQ hitter, it creates double the attack openings. As for me, having a middle is extremely important but I would choose it last because a good setter brings out a good middle lol. I personal value strong defense, of course your offense has to be there to finish the point. But in the end at this level, its who makes less mistakes. Unless, you have a Prime Giba or Prime Clay Stanley whose unstoppable. Its rare to run into that lol.

Don't forget chemistry. With this format the captain, if she wants, gets to choose the players that they play well with. Drews stacked her team with strong net players in week 3 which should work as a strategy. Sheilla wanted to pair up with Nootsara and that worked out well also.

I'm all for change in sports, I mean as a volleyball/beachvolley player you're used to rules/competition format changing and inventions coming along like the king of the court series in beach. But this ain't it for me. What is the long-term connector of this game? Or is it only a short-term project to get people interested and then create a full season pro league with the normal rules? How on earth will you remember all the ways a player can score points? Are you even watching for the volleyball then? Doesn't the highlighted individual scoring take away from the fact that it's a team sport?
I'm just confused. I don't think volleyball needs to be gamified like this.

I would go Libero, Middle, Right-side; then the rest.
As long as you have the best passing libero, a great blocker who’s controlled and a killer on the right, you’re set to go 90% of the time.
Any pro setter can use those tools and most pro outsides are either powerful or crafty (meaning you could get either thing and still work) while passing at least average.

  • @cinemasianx

Do you find that certain positions are more heavily point favored than others? For example, a LIB wouldn't be hitting, so some of those high value points wouldn't be available to them. And if teams are smart, they wouldn't serve or hit to the LIB reducing their touches. Been watching these since they're on RUclips and it's been interesting to see the mix of players and how they have to gel with new teammates each week.
