I wish this hurricane would've gotten more credit that it did because it was "overshadowed" by Katrina and became the forgotten storm. I live in Jasper County, a county mentioned in the video, and rode out the storm here. I was 3 years old, but remember that night on September 24, 2005 like it was yesterday. It was absolutely the scariest night ever. This storm is the reason I want to be a meteorologist when I get older. This hurricane really did change my life as well as many others. I remember the damage, the wind, the rain, the sound of the tornadoes! It was incredible and destructive.

Repent and put your trust in Jesus.
We've all sinned and deserve Hell.
Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, defeating death and sin.

It truly was the forgotten storm. So much coverage from Katrina overshadowed this storm. Not saying Katrina wasn’t bad because it was, but what made it so bad was the levy breaking. We evacuated from Rita to broadus Texas thinking it wouldn’t effect that area as bad but it made a turn east last minute and we were right in the path of it. I was 12 years old and I vividly remember watching the storm from the glass doors at the school we were sheltered at. Tornado after tornado touching down. Trees being broken like twigs. What should have been a 40 minutes drive home ended up being 5 hours because we had to cut our way through, and back home was even worse.

I was living in Bridge City Tx at the time. We thought for sure we were going to get flooded. Fortunately, Rita went a little bit east of us. She still did a lot of damage and we were without power for 3 weeks. 5 years later Ike comes by and puts 5 feet of water in the house.

I volunteered with US Army Corps of Engineers clean up. Long long hours, my meds were stolen, got cut on one leg, snake bit on the other, got a brain virus from mold, etc. I was like a stroke victim, ended up unable to read, drooled all the time, could hardly speak or understand others, major hearing loss. I am better now despite being told I would never get better. Prayer really helps. I would do it all again. Saw amazing sites, met amazing residents, amazing dedicated coworkers.

People don't seem to know that Hurricane Rita was far stronger than Katrina. Rita was just weaker at landfall, so damages were less intense. Hurricane Rita was so powerful, in fact, it is the fourth-strongest Atlantic Hurricane on record!

@@terrorblossom4829 Hurricane Katrina had winds of 125 mph at landfall, making it a Category 3. A storm's intensity is also measured through its pressure, not through its wind speeds. Rita's pressure at peak was 895 mbar, and that will be compared to Katrina's 902 mbar.
Sub-900 storms are very rare in the Atlantic, we've only ever had five of them in roughly 172 years of record-keeping. Rita was one of them, Katrina was not.

The city focused on getting as many people to the city via these casinos so much that everything else began to suffer.
