I agree that people's sense of sovereignty and restoring the attitudes that engender liberty and republican self-governance must be restored.

Hillsdale does a great job advocating for the Constitution and our republic in many ways. I appreciate their advocacy of classical education and the Great Works.
Charters schools, though, undermine our republic. Unelected parents make decisions with their neighbors' tax dollars at schools with selected, not elected boards. Taxpayers cannot exert any oversight or accountability over the use of their money or for the educational outcomes. This is taxation with representation.

The system is not 100 years past due for reform. Communities have been losing local control slowly and steadily. NCLB, Race to the Top, and Common Core have all accelerated that, turning education into a worker bee conduit for corporations.
Education needs to build citizens who know the responsibilities of living in a constitutional republic and can shoulder that self-governance. Broad knowledge and a wide array of skillsets and some common sense, a disposition towards liberty, need to be inculcated in order for people to defend and perpetuate our republic.

A third party has not been inserted in education. Representatives are elected from amongst the community to make decisions with pooled tax dollars for the education of the community's children. The pooled resources for the education of all the community's children is intended to educate all towards adulthood in a free society. If we all can participate in our own self-governance, then we all should be at least foundationally educated such that that goal can be shouldered.

The bird's eye view of education that parents got of education during lockdown did not reflect reality in the classroom. Teachers do not normally teach on computers like that, especially with kids. They can and do engage kids in activities in the classroom that are impossible via computer. Teachers, I suspect, also, too often got inadequate or poorly considered guidance about how to try to manage teaching, assignments, and grading during that time. If people visited classrooms now, it'd look completely different and probably a lot better than the computer version.

Newt Gingrich advocated letting China into the WTO; then we fed them as all our manufacturing went overseas. Economics weren't going to do anything to make a communist dictatorship into a democracy.
Economic prosperity seems to mostly have the effect of making people get fat and happy and complacent; it wasn't ever going to create in people a sense of self-direction and liberty (particularly in a long-running collectivist society).

That whole bit about parents being called terrorists was propaganda from the NSBA (don't participate by repeating that nonsense).. The NSBA does NOT speak for all local school boards. If a school board messed up, that is a local problem, not one that can be broad-brushed to school boards generally.
