    This is definitely a hard NO for me. I have 3 pre-2020 R Nine T's and wouldn't consider a newer version. It's clear the designers of the original R Nine T are long gone from BMW. The obsession with all the technology (adding cost, weight, complexity) is over the top.

    Really happy BMW is continuing to invest in this model, and I like the new tech (gas gauge?). I think the challenge for BMW is going to be that my 2016 R9T Classic with the all aluminum tank is still a beautiful bike, and I was able to buy an immaculate, low mileage version for half the cost of a new one. I can take the extra money and splash it on the suspension and custom bits. Nice video, keep up the good work.

    Useful vid, thanks. After seeing it I’ve ordered one of the last ‘23 classics. The original was clearly a passion project - the Akra exhaust, the alloy triangle under the seat, the snorkel. Felt special, iconic. The R12 models feel like the accountants have had a greater say. Generic, plastic UJM vibe that’s been designed with cost cutting and modularity in mind. Smaller brakes, more weight (if on the same rims) and less torque that’s 1500rpm up the rev range. Pretty disappointing. I’m sure PCC will make some interesting customs with them, tho.

    wow; it sure is ugly compared to the old model. Wat was BMW thinking? Headers are sharp; and ugly. The catalytic converter is huge. The valve covers are a step down that looks like they came from intertoys. The iconic snorkel is gone that made the R nine T unique. The seat cowl is a huge ugly thing. They removed the Akrapovic stock exhaust. The tank is smaller.
    I'll happily stick to my 2018 urban gs; every day over this.

  • @domd2304
    @domd2304 8 месяцев назад +15

    Unfortunately the new R12 NineT is looking like a step backwards in most ways. Aesthetically it's not nice but that's subjective, however it also has smaller brake rotors, even more rake on the fork (so heavier slower steering), less power and more weight than the outgoing model. It's a hard pass from me.

    • @motozest7856
      @motozest7856 8 месяцев назад +8

      You can't simply make up facts, mate.
      Looks are indeed subjective - I, for instance, think it looks a lot better now. It has smaller brake rotors because it doesn't need them as big as before - it's on an overall better braking setup (better pads and better rotors). The slightly increased rake and wheelbase will give it more stability while leaned, which is what most R Nine T owners were asking for (BMW asked some of us owners what changes we'd like to see). The power - 109hp - is exactly the same as on the previous generation, and the weight - 220kg curb - is actually 1kg lower.

    • @domd2304
      @domd2304 8 месяцев назад +1

      How am I making up facts? The new bike has 1hp less power, 1lb-ft less torque (and at 500 higher rpm). The new bike has a smaller tank so add 1.2kg to the wet weight - the weight also seems to be reported with cast wheels not spoked so the bike sans wheels seems to be even heavier. As for the brakes, aside from monobloc calipers, I still think 320mm rotors are going to offer greater repeated stopping power than 310mm - never heard someone say that smaller rotors are a braking upgrade. The rake was already very slack on the 9T and the bike too stable - slowing it even further with 1.8deg more rake is just silly. I have raised the rear on mine 45mm, effectively reducing the rake by approx 1 deg and also reducing trail significantly and it feels much better and still super stable. The 2024 seems to be a backwards step in performance terms - but if you just want to pootle around slowly then you may like it.

    • @motozest7856
      @motozest7856 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@domd2304 Maybe in America - here in Europe your figures are wrong and what I said is right. If you want a steep steering geometry I suggest an M1000RR - anything less than that and your otherwordly riding skills are being wasted.
