  • Extend the vase life of dahlia flowers with these tips!
Dahlias should be cut in the early morning or late evening when the flowers are well hydrated. Unlike most other types of flowers, dahlias buds will not open in a vase. Wait to cut the blossoms until they are almost fully open. The back of the flower head should be stiff, and the back petals should stay in place when you rub them.
When harvesting, make deep cuts so you get stems that are 18-24 inches long. To get stems this long, you need to sacrifice side buds. This is hard to do, but it’s the correct way to harvest and will pay off with a consistent supply of long stems.
Immediately after harvest, place the stems into 2-3″ of very warm water that is between 160-180°F. If possible, add flower food into the bucket. For best results, use a large plastic or metal bucket and do not crowd the flowers as steam can damage their delicate petals. After at least one hour of conditioning in the bucket, remove the stems and put them into fresh, clean water.

I really enjoy watching your videos I think your content is amazing and your deliveries even better
I have recently started working at a floral shop inside of a grocery store and I have to tell you I was really shocked at the condition of the flowers that they use for arrangements
    For me,
And I think I've proven that in the last nearly 2 months
Is that even though these are not top grade flowers they are the be rated versus what generally the floral shops carry which is grade or more on the premium side
It really is how you process and condition the flowers that will make the most bang for your buck
I listen to my intuition because I'm highly intuitive I can sense things about people mostly around biology and plants plant medicine etc.
After a huge traumatic event in my life eight years ago this gift just came to the surface full force and I had to learn over this course of time to interpret what I was
Suppose what I'm doing right now and I can tell you the few things that I have implemented not only my intuition but from sources such as yourself have really impacted the quality of the arrangements and what we offered to the customers so they can make their own
It really is amazing how well these plants are doing and just cut flowers but the potted plants growing in the middle of a grocery store challenging particularly with orchids and now I have orchids that are budding the first lot of them were dying off so quickly it was horrifying
And then I moved into problem-solving and what a huge difference it has made
It gives me a sense of satisfaction and purpose to know that life and bring these beautiful creatures from the doorstep of death so that people can enjoy being surrounded by them because they are very healing extremely medicinal
Even there looks and they are for the scent which is the other element that I would really like to see but I'm only one person so I'm not sure what changes I can personally affect
At least in my locations so I am very excited after living in my car for eight years to be able to secure a place so that I can start growing my own

Thanks for the tip. I arrange flowers for the church and we love dahlias but they don't last long. Ontario Canada

Thanks for such an informative video on dahlias. Some of my dahlias have quite short stems so is it still OK to put them in hot water or will the petals wilt?

This has been really helpful. Can I ask do we need to use a stem dip solution at the arranging stage if we recut them after initial heat treatment? Or can they be heat treated twice to refresh them? Thank you.

    QUESTION?
Thanks for this truck Danielle ❤I just picked my 3 ever, ball dahlia yesterday.. 😍 I bought bulb food that has a hormone in it. I will defiantly try this and compare with and without hot water. Do you use CVBN tablets in harvest bucket?
