Whenever I see her father Charlie it makes me feel sad. His daughter decided to leave because of a vampire. He continued being alone. 😭 Damn I love her father. Seeing his daughter changed from human to vampire probably hurts him a lot.
She actually sees him more then most would at that age. whereas many of the people she went to school with would of probably gone away to college and stuff she is still living in Forks at the end of breaking dawn where her Dad can visit her. Charlie also ends up in a relationship with Sue Clearwater.
Charlie was done well in the books and the movie. You really could relate to him and his desperate love for his child when he has no idea what’s going on.
@@TomatoesandCheese I almost forgot about that Clearwater. It's been over a decade since I read the book. Remembering everything he'd been through makes me still feel sad for him. I hate Bella. 😅
@@ivannapaisa3512 I think no one told him but it's kinda implied that he knew or he have an idea that his daughter is not the same/human anymore. 🤗 Actually it's been a long time since I read the book so I'm not sure anymore. Hope someone clarifies it if they still remembrr it well. 😅
Being clumsy or having a mental illness isn't an inherently bad thing, but Bella lacks agency, self-awareness, and a sense of responsibility. She's clumsy yet constantly puts herself in dangerous situations expecting others to save her. She self-harms and hallucinates but those issues are never addressed in any meaningful way.
The clumsy part is true, but about the mental illness I think you misundertood what was said in the video. The critic is the way its approached, not the fact she may/ probably has a mental illness.
@@rayraferreira4435 I guess but when I was watching the video I was agreeing on that point until they brought up mental illness because it felt like they were insulting Bella for being depressed when Edward left, if it was depression/a mental illness then that's not something to insult... But maybe it's more an issue with the phrasing :)
Honest I get so pissed whenever Bella leads on Jacob when she was with Edward. She straight kissed Jacob to see if she felt anything while she was engaged to Edward. Or how she was more obsessed with being a vampire than her own life. Her being obsessed with Edward too was just annoying I wish she had a character arc
@@enjoyingmyvodka1013 exactly it just go so annoying, at first I thought she was using him to be a vampire but she just has a lot going on she needa work on that. My thing is how are you gonna claim you love someone but be leading on another boy, and we all know dang well she wasn’t born to be a vampire yet she claims to be. 😐
@@2lovedd.ttmariee people try to play it off as her trying to move on but please! She showed all the signs of using Jacob. Edward had everything she wanted which was material stuff, Jacob was ordinary and she was ordinary and claimed she was tad admitted she didn’t want to be . She was like that secret selfish mean girl
Ive always hated the way she was so ready to drop her whole friend group and family over a boy she hadnt been with or even known for that long. Like dang girl, what about your mama she made you that college shirt quilt remember?😭😭
I get your point. But - and that's from someone who's read the books, so I'm talking about them, not the movies - Bella's mom was basically really neglectful. In the books Bella says that she basically had to be the adult from a young age because her mom was too immature to take care of herself, let alone her own daughter. When her father got her snow tires she almost started crying because she wasn't used to being cared for by a parent.
I mean Jessica and Mike (and Eric and Lauren if you read the books) were never really her friends, Mike just wanted to get in her pants and Jess was just clinging to popularity (Lauren and eric never cared for her like that), it was ALWAYS Angela who was the real friend outta all of them. Still, the way Bella just slipped back into the mix after being mentally MIA the way she was was trash at least for Angie
I don't think clumsiness is a bad trait and can in some ways make a character more relatable and I don't blame her for being depressed after Edward left but I do think Bella was extremely selfish and took everyone for granted. I felt so bad for Charlie throughout the series and he deserved to the truth about Bella and all the Cullens
Let’s not forget when she left Charlie in the first movie, saying the same thing her mother said before leaving him as well, and never actually apologizing or explaining why she did it🤮
@@Stxrry_Haley A book adaption movie should stand on it's own without having to read the book. Bella could be an amzing person in the books, but in the movies.. not at all.
I don't like Bella she was a badly written caracter, she had no hobbies and no personality.... The only thing she did all day was like hanging out with Edward and laying in the gras with Edward and looking at Edward for way to long and always asking him if he could turn her . And the whole romance thing between her and Edward was creepy and they were overly obsessed with each other and had no goals in life exempt be together and do nothing I guess..... And she was leading Jacob on even after she got married and used him for protection then at the end she blamed everything on him.
I feel the same way... I was team Jacob the entire series until she started blaming him for everything ... he basically became her punching bag. So in the end I was happy he didn't end up with her.
Ngl I think jacob should have ended up with someone else other than Bellas daughter. Like yes take her away from Bella and Edward a bit, like let her live with the wolves, but dont like end up with her. I understand it's not a sexual connection at the beginning of her life, but in 7 or 8 years it might. That or Renesmee was just like Stephanie giving him a love interest bc Bella had done so much damage to him. No hate tho
@@purpledreamsforever3553 I agree it's weird because he is so much older than her and I know she will basically be an adult in like 7 years but I am still not a fan of the idea that they would be together.
That's Bella in a nutshell. In the first book alone, practically every guy she meets is falling over themselves to date her, despite her being awkward and clumsy.
@Dominique Higgins the difference here is that even in the books Bella doesn't have any other interest besides Edward its like what do you even talk about with her, what does she do in her free time ? For instance I was quiet but if people wanted to talk to me they would still find something that interested me, they would check my books or something of mine to find something to talk about but with Bella everything leads back to Edward in the books when she would talk about her Romeo and Juliet assignment it would lead back to Edward 🙄so I don't think its dumb for guys to feel attracted to "cool mysterious " girls its dumb in twilight because she doesn't have any personality but also she's just popular with the guys because she's new and isn't unattractive
She only thought about Edward and no one else. She kicked around with Jacob because she was lonely and after a while when Edward came she just treated Jacob like trash.
exactly! it was so sad and annoying. she's a heartless idiot who only used jacob to fill a void even though she was going to immediately ditch him for Edward anyway.
But the thing is, she acted like she cared about both of them without caring for either of them, everything she did was so that she could benefeit from it. First, as soon as Edward left she moved on to Jacob to ease *her* pain. Then as soon as Edward came back, she *ignored him and kicked him to the curb. Then she kept wanting to go back to being friends with him after hurting him because she wanted to take away her own guilt. Then she forgets that she's hurting Edward by doing so* but still goes to Jacob and basically starts cheating on him openly, but since Edward's blind he doesn't notice lol
I didn't understand how she had any friends. She moped around like her entire family had been murdered in front of her and acted like she was better and smarter than everyone around her
The worst about her is still how vain she is. She can’t stop obsessing about age as if someone can tell the difference between 17 and 19, from all I know. I feel like Bella as a vampire would use all her eternity to stare at herself in the mirror. And it’s pretty clear to me that she only loves Edward because he’s a vampire. She doesn’t seem to be able to find qualities about him that she admires or anything, it’s all about the looks and the supernatural chemistry. Female gaze all the way.
I completely disagree. Bella is the opposite of vain, in fact the whole wanting to be close in age to edward when changed i believe has a lot to do with her lack of self worth and insecurity. Wanting edward to still like the look of he, to for once be on equal footing in one area of their lives. Bella is like many young people and even adults insecure in herself and self worth especially when comparing herself to edward and considering herself plain despite the many boys at school vying for her attention, Edward and even volturi members showing admiration. She always considers herself as almost an embarrassment and unworthy standing next to edward. Her desire to become a vampire comes purely from her pure and intense love for edward. She has no desire for immortality without edward and just look at new moon. She had no interest in even her limited human life without edward.... Becoming zombie like or forcing herself to pretend just to please Charlie. That's the thing with bella... When she loves she loves whole heartedly. I mean just look at how she fled to protect her mother.... At the cost of her own future. Knowing the risk. She shows more then once throughout the books that she's more then willing to lay down her life for those she loves. Just think about it....renee in twilight not to mention the risk she takes in loving edward. Edward in New moon when she goes to volterra to stop edward fully aware of the high likelihood she wont make it out alive. Jacob too choosing to put her life at risk with the volatile shape shifters because she cares about her friend and is fiercely loyal. Eclipse when she deliberately cuts herself in front of Victoria preferring her blood be drained at the sight of Victoria about to rip edwards head clean off his neck..... Not to mention continuing her pregnancy with renesmee knowing the almost certainty of her death. Then expecting to fight with the rest of the Cullen's to protect renesmee. So i guess what I'm saying is bella is ruled by love. Edward and renesmee being of course her highest priority and the two she'd do anthing to protect so think of if this way.... Bella lives a happy life with edward.. Grows old and dies.... Edward after already knowing what it is to be lonely for over 100 years is then left once again alone only this time he has no hope for the future as vampires have only one mate. Just look at what became of Marcus after didyme's death. Do you really think bella would want to leave him alone again. Then in new moon she knows that were she to die of old age edward would kill himself.... So yeah of course she wants to be a vampire. At no point does she idolise and go on about wanting eternal youth and beauty and the speed. Bella also finds blood disturbing and has to sacrifice a great deal in order to be a vampire.... I. E her parents whom she loves very much (despite in many ways her being more of a parent) and her best friend. Her ability to have children which despite being somthing she at that point has no desire for is still a big deal. Bella is very mature for her age so she thinks things through and doesn't make life altering decisions lightly. But her love for edward tops all else. Even the agony of transformation which she still chooses to be a vampire despite having experienced the sheer agony (that makes you beg for death) when James bit her, knowing how horrific it is. You see she chooses to be a vampire to be with edward. To live and love with edward. To be an equal with him.... Somthing i personally think ia is always good in a relationship to feel like your equals. As a human bella is constantly relying on edward for protection and safety unable to offer any in return. He has loads of money...... She has the money she's been saving up for college he looks like a Greek god she considers herself plain, the list goes on and on. Is it any wonder she wants to be close in age to him.... Tobe similar kn that way.... Joint in that way... To feel more equal. Not to mention the Cullen lifestyle and how they have to regularly move and redo high-school. Finally id like to point out that bella dresses modestly, minimal if any makeup an very reluctant to fashion. She is shocked by her appearance on her wedding day and had never even looked in the mirror till after she'd said her vows. As for looking in the mirror as a vampire...... She's never even thinks to and only does because of alice. Her huge alice wardrobe in her new cottage and designer clothes don't hold anything but exasperation and a loving amusement for Alice. Reading your comment i really can't understand how y reached such a harsh opinion of bella.... I'm questioning if we even read the same books. Is there another twilight series by another stephenie meyer that I've never encountered because the ones I've read hold no such depiction of bella whatsoever.
Joanna Stubington girl no one’s gonna read that, but sure... you should listen to a podcast called “Is it teen enough for you now”, they made one episode for each book and maybe you’ll understand from an objective perspective how vain and obsessed with being young Bella really is.
@@pennyname2756 haha i agree that it's unlikely anyone will read all that. That really made me chuckle but i am not really interested in the podcast you've suggested. Penny Name Yup. She’s way too obsessive in general. It’s creepy. I get that the author tries to excuse it with Edward being her soulmate or whatever but jeez.

@@jennifermuratalla2382 Actually, Bella doesn't care about anyone except herself: This is seen in New Moon, when she manipulated Jessica into going with her to the cinema just to get her father off her back. Let me just go book wise lisa li. Twilight- Went to a vampire alone, who was planning to torture her to death, just to save her mother. New moon- went to Volterra and faced the volturi while still human to save Edward. Eclipse- cut herself in front of two vampires who were tracking her for more than a year to save Seth from dying. Breaking Dawn- Saved the whole Olympic coven, Denali Coven, the Egyptian Coven the amazon coven and many other nomads from getting killed in the confrontation with volturi. She saved them all by HERSELF. Through her sheild. Now you know what she did.

@sraboni 1234 I very well know. I was trying to make a point here for Julie Mclntyre that it is the way the story is. If she did not get involved with the Cullens there would have been no story. If Harry Potter wouldn't have been a wizard in the first place there wouldn't have been a story. Katniss and Peeta started a rebellion just so the could have a life together. Percy and Annabeth gave up immortality for each other. Harry and Ginny saved each other from Voldemort’s mind games. Some one remind me, exactly WHAT did Edward and Bella do for each other?
I guess Edward saved her at certain moments but she didn’t really do anything other than ignore the fact that he originally wanted to kill her and told her that.
I agree, I mean I understand how teenagers can be insecure and all that but she straight up HATED being human without ever ACTUALLY experiencing the joys of being human 😂
If you think about it haha, she can be young and beautiful forever, and still attend A LOT of colleges and universities, and even get all the world champions in different sports, save a lot of lives and do a lot of other stuff lpl
That’s one of my biggest issues with Bella. She puts the family in danger countless times and it doesn’t seem like empathy for what she’s putting them through. Not to mention she puts her feelings over Edwards quite often.
That's how I see her too. It's understandable that her whole dna changed but she behaved arrogant and vane. She isn't a heroine as Kristen described her, Bella became spoiled.
@@missmimi6817 she was the ugly duckling turned into the swan. She was cocky afterwards and wanting to be a hero. She wasn’t a heroine she was just more like a spoiled brat who everyone had to please. I saw her kinda selfish but more after becoming a vampire.
How about a video on how Jacob is literally the worst character! He was needy, manipulating, abusive, and inappropriate! Like hello he forced a kiss on Bella and tried to justify it. He didn't respect Bella's choices and completely undermines Edward and Bella's relationship. Like take a hint! I can't even touch the whole imprinting thing.
Jacob? Edward is no better than him. And Bella is the one who was manipulative and being inappropriate, playing around with him even though she's saying how she'll always love Edward more, like they said Bella was using Jacob it's hardly his fault. The reason why also Jacob got upset at the wedding was when Bella told him she wanted to do sex with Edward, Jacob was worried that it would hurt her and what might become of this. Jacob is a good person, he was always supportive and was there for Bella, not to mention he left his pack, his brothers, to keep Bella safe. Bella doesn't deserve him at all and Jacob should've gotten a better imprint than Bella's daughter, Renesmee or as I call her Bella 2.0.
@@juliemcintyre428 honestly they're all flawed and the only good thing about this saga is the soundtracks. And the best character's are the Clearwater family.
People who say they can relate to Bella worry me. How could anyone relate to a girl who's got no reason to be miserable but still is, thinks she's better than everyone in her school, hypocritically accuses another girl of being shallow and only caring about a guy's looks while only caring about said guy's looks herself, mistakes obsessive lust for "true love" thinks the appropriate response to a breakup is to nearly kill yourself to hallucinate your ex and so on.
I can relate to Bella’s pull towards Edward. There was someone I thought was extremely handsome and the most awesome guy in the world and he was my world. I threw up, refused to eat and cried all the time when he broke up. Except when I matured I realized he was just a creepy douchebag and wasn’t that attractive. I came to my senses that I have a life and things to see instead of moping around a man. Wish Bella got her redemption but no she just became more conceited as a vampire
@Sudeeptha S the fantastic creatures are the only real difference, the type of abusive relationship is the same. after all 50shades is an erotic fanfic of twilight
Man. How many people would give everything just to have a dad or a mom, it's really really really really unfair the way she treats Charlie. He's so sweet, caring, worried, just loves her and wants the best for her.
Remember how Jessica was portrayed as really shallow in Twilight and New Moon and then in Eclipse, she gave that speak that suggested character growth and like she's going on to do great things? She would have made a better main character!

It's truly fascinating to me how Bella has friends who still likes her when she keeps ignoring them. That would never happen in real life, there her friends would quickly abandon her and think she was pathetic for making her boyfriend her entire life. I think that Twilight could be a really interesting story with better writing such as Bella being a more complex character with an actual personality, and the vampies being classic vampires that doesn't turn into fairies in the sunlight lmao. ._. Also if there'd been more focus on the side characters, they all have pretty interesting backstories especially Rosalie.
@Sanne Mathiasen The difference between straying and the way Bella handles her friendships is she doesn't care about her friends. She only cares about Edward and she never shows any enthusiasm or love for her supposed friends, they drag her along to things and she doesn't care or she hangs out with them when it can benefit her somehow.
On a whole, these books are the worst. Edward’s obsession with Bella, Bella’s obsession with Edward, the wolves attacking their significant others when angry, it’s all a poor example to young, impressionable females of what a relationship should be.
Natasha Coda I do not think this form of obsession and relationships (or these books) scratch the surface of today’s poor example. The worst could easily go to nonfiction on many levels. 😔
The wolves did not get angry and hurt their girlfriends. Sam phased by accident and his girl got hurt. Not abusive at all. He never forgave himself for hurting her by accident.
Natasha Coda You guys seriously need to stop pretending like these stories are meant to teach you something. If anything it teaches you sometimes things happen and you just have to accept it.

It’s sickening that young girls look up to this character. When I have a daughter, I’m gonna make sure she gets a good dose of Hermione, Katniss, and any other good female role model in fiction.
I read the books and saw the movies when I was 10-14 and my mum was so obsessed with Edward and told me all the time how great he was and how I should want a boyfriend like that and to be like Bella. After the series finished I didn't touch it for years but this past month I've been watching videos like this and, as a 21-year-old, it freaks me out how much my mum PROMOTED all this negativity as 'goals' to me my whole teenage years! It'd be another thing to take me to see the movies for entertainment but she was always pushing the series at me and basically telling me to base my whole life around it. Like, no, even if I was into men I DON'T want a boyfriend who breaks into my house at night to watch me sleep, thanks
To be honest the books are better than the movies, they're more detailed and set into motion and I actually really like Bella in the books, it definitely gives her more of a character but not that much in the movies I feel like the movies kind of ruined Twilight for me.
Bella was EVEN WORSE in the books. She is so obsessed with Edward it’s crazy. She is manipulative and pathetic. And the books goes more into detail about how manipulative and pathetic. She broke her fathers heart and would rather choose Edward over her own family, friends, and her life. She even shouted at Charlie what her mother said all those years ago which broke his heart. The books deserve a 2/10.
Not me. I wanted to throw the book away after the first chapter Twilight because I couldn’t get over how annoying and boring Bella was. Just because she chose to cook, clean and do her homework like a “good girl”, she thinks she’s better than others although she bitches about her parents, manipulates people and disregarding their safety. Edward is not any better in the books. He is a total creep.
MyLifeAsSkye I get that, but I thought it was funny how much she discarded the werewolves and talks highly about vampires, like saying “you can’t kill vampires, because they’ll kill you”. That sorta stuff.
@@Gyvulys No. There’s never justification for touching someone without their consent. Period! There’s no excuse for that assaults Jacob inflicted upon Bella physically or emotionally (‘better you’d really be dead than one of them’, ‘you’re in love with me too’ etc.). None.
Is it in the movie or the book? I think it's understandable. There are people who was like that. I have a friend who is always emotionless but she's a good friend. Each people are different.
Right?! If she didn’t want him to kiss her, she should have stopped him as he got closer to her. She knew that Edward couldn’t read her mind but could read Jacob’s mind. It’s like she wanted them to fight. Edward and Jacob were already enemies, but it’s like Bella just wanted to add fuel to the fire and watch them fight over her.
Umm. No. Jacob knew she was in a relationship with someone else, he kisses her without consent. Bella is not in the wrong because she didn’t physically stop him. Shes She shouldn’t have to. Jacob shouldn’t have pushed himself on her. She made mention multiple times that she has no romantic interest in him, and that her feelings are platonic. Seemingly implying "well yeah but not as much as i love edward" which is messed up because she plans on tying herself to him forever lol. Honestly they're both kinda shitty
From what some had told me, Bella wanted to become a vampire because she felt like her life was meaningless; she didn't feel alive. When she became a vampire, she blossomed. She had loving parents who always looked out for her even if they were divorced, friends who still accepted her even if she's socially awkward, clumsy, and quiet, plus had a childhood friend who loved her and would do anything for her (also fine as hell). What was so lifeless about all of that?? And yet, she tossed all of that away for one vampire who was craving for her blood in the first place, but later down the line, the lust for blood changed into love for her? Sometimes I wonder "just how?" when it comes between Bella and Edward, but it is what it is lol
Kourtney Dixon I have all that too yet I feel very much lifeless. It has nothing to do with being ungrateful or anything, but sometimes you just feel dead inside. Sometimes you just need more and there's nothing wrong with it.

The books are better at addressing this issue than the movies ever were. Between the low self esteem, absent father, and neglectful mother (resulting in her practically raising herself and being her parents caregiver) of course she’s going to be socially awkward and out of step with typical teens etc.. This was such a crucial part of her character and the movies completely failed to address it properly. It seems out of style for people to like the series anymore, but if you were real fans then, you would not stop being fans just because someone says it’s not cool to claim to like it anymore!! Just my opinion.
I agree with this in a lot of ways. I read the series when I was a sophomore in college...and I was going through stuff in my personal life that was oddly similar (but without vampires and werewolves of course...just the personalities and events were similar) and I really related to Bella and looked to the books as my 'manual' for how to get through what was going on in my life at the time. I was obsessed! Fast forward several years and I am writing my own series that is based on the true events of my life at that time, and it does include vampires, but nothing like the Cullens. But I realize, as I write my own books, that the character development for Bella really WAS lacking. I related to her when I was in that time in my life...but she is like a blank sheet of paper that stuff just happens to. Like the video says, she has no ambitions, no plans for the future, nothing. Basically very little by way of personality as well. I was writing the character based off of me in my own books with the very same shortcomings. I had to really reflect on myself and my personality and realize that at that time I was 'lost without the man' but I also had goals and ambitions and my rebellious streak got me through tough stuff instead of getting me injured. I realized that I wasn't 'a Bella' (as the literary joke goes) but that I had a lot more personality...which was a news flash to me...because I remember feeling so empty at that time and watching the days and weeks pass by like she watches the months from her chair in the window. Don't get me wrong, I am still a huge fan...I will love this series for the rest of my life I am sure...because I connected with it! And I love the movies, though I haven't been able to re-read the books.
@@KatelynStapleton1989 I agree with you on several points but I'd like to say Bella was purposefully bland-ish (not really bland alltogether but enough) so that people could see themselves in her place...
"She makes life-altering decisions as a teenager." Wait, like joining the military or choosing what profession you're going to sink thousands of dollars into learning? Bella is a teenager, written for teenagers. These are all pretty typical teen behaviors for everyone at some point in time. Bella isn't a bad character because her decisions read as bad when viewed by people who know better.
I was thinking the same thing. Life altering decisions is exactly what teens do at that age. Hey, let’s get married. Hey, let’s have a baby. Hey, let’s join the so and so group. Teens making crazy decisions is not at all unrealistic.
I agree, also Bella in books is like 99% of the time is described as an adult and that she "never was a teenanger" etc. Of course she's not mature all of the time, but like rEaD tHE boOkS
I'm re-reading the books, and I actually really like Bella. The books are written in her perspective, and you read the events through her thoughts. I kind of relate to her 'socially distanced type' character.
same. I read the books twice. And, i came up to realization to her socially awkward when it comes to have had conversation with her friends or acting nobody in her life would be meaningless.
Being clumsy isn’t a sin She can’t make a huge amount of decisions because the people she’s dealing with are immortal and strong. No decision really matters then. Also telling Charlie the truth would mean he’d be killed. Juuuuust saying
@@jetdelarosa1868 thats valid. she does have her faults but if the genders were reversed this wouldm't be an issue. people love traits like this as long as its not a female character then its "weak"
D V. Crane funny u say this cause the author of twilight released twilight remastered a few years ago and it’s basically twilight but with Edward as the human and Bella as the vampire.
ALSO Bellas relationship with her dad runs deeper than what's shown in the movies, if she feels detached from her father and calls him charlie, thats her choice and she calls him dad later in the series as they get closer. It's obviously quite awkward for her to move in with her Dad full time after not seeing him much in her childhood. She doesnt tell him about being a vampire because she is protecting him from the Volturi. I'm not a huge twilight fan but I just think your arguments are petty and unfair.
I honestly did as well. She comes across as shy and nervous in interviews, yet she's tasked with portraying such a bland, expressionless and emotionally manipulative character. 😪
I think she is someone with a soul and determination towards love whether you like the love between Bella and Edward, at least they are happily ever after, unlike most humans
@@cindyli8177 Obsessive lust is what's between them not love. "Happily ever after " only exists in fairy tales kiddo. And stop being pretentious and talking about humans as if you aren't one yourself.
(I know that I reply late) In this case, you have to connect the dots: Bella has spent her life being invisible, as her parents divorced when she was a child and had to live with a neglectful mother, an emotionally stunted woman who was more concerned about living the high life rather than caring about her daughter. Bella had to practically raise herself and was completely friendless, as she was taught that her needs are irrelevant.
Jacob is such a good friend to keep up with he bulls***t i could not and she keep on playing with his feels and she know she will never leave Edward of jacob
There’s so many reasons why she sucks. The fact that she is being extremely selfish. She was willing to give up her family to become a vampire. That shows she was more committed to her relationship with Edward whom she literally just met compared to her parents. This relationship between the two of them are so unhealthy and annoying. She literally had no type of personality until she became a vampire so vampirism unlocks personalities now? Plus she isn’t easy to relate too. She was basically using Jacob’s feelings for her. If you are about to give up your entire family to become a vampire but refused to marry the guy until he agreed to change you, wouldn’t that make you a user? She’s irks me and she is as bland and boring as a bucket.
@Alex Barlow plenty of other people’s parents are the best but they didn’t become products of their environment. That’s the same excuse that people use all the time. If your parents weren’t the best I’m sorry that happened but at some point you have to pick yourself up and realize you can make your own decisions.
@@ollie1915 I found her just as dull and lifeless in the books. Bella was a blank slate, the reason so many people identify with her is that she wasn't given enough characterization of her own, and so it was easier for people to see themselves in her. The movies made this lack of characterization obvious is all. With a book, you can fill in a lot of details on your own. With a movie, more has to be provided.
@@ollie1915 And she was supposedly better in the books? When you read her inner thoughts, you realize even more just how selfish and manipulative she was.
It was talking about how she never was aware of her surroundings and purposely put herself in danger (but I think her slipping on ice was uncalled for)
ChewyWater true, but her lack of fear and her underestimating people that are SUPERNATURAL AND DANGEROUS is what makes her naive and unaware, she needed to be more careful and because of her lack of care or worry, she put herself in danger (thank you for kindly responding with your opinion, I respect you and your comment)
But you're not a fictional character whose clumsiness was only written in because the shitty author thought it somehow proved that her Mary Sue self insert wasn't one.
@@idk_why_cant_i_just_be_idk yeah but not worth the risk. Before bella's changed the volturi are already intrigued by bella making the risk to her parents high enough as it is. She's not going to risk her parents life no matter how much it pains her to be apart from them.
Joanna Stubington that’s laughable, since the first movie she has been trying to become a vampire, she clearly don’t give a fuck about how her parents feel, as long as she got Edward she is fine. If she had prioritized her family sooner, she never would have put them at such “risk” in the first place
my dad wouldn’t have believed or would have been satisfied with an explanation she told charlie. i thought this scene was kinda unbelievable and not a ,,solution‘‘
kai’s hoe Yes, they did. Bella had the same predicament. They gave the cullens an ultimatum that either she got turned, or they’d kill her. This was all in the second book/movie. Also, she wasn’t aware that there was any risk until she learned about the voltori and the ‘rules.’ They were already a couple by that time.
she couldn't tell her parent's about the vampire world or they would be killed she used a loophole just to stay close to her dad. just thought I'd point tht out lol
A loophole that she’d been willing to abandon but then got forced into using due to Jacob wanting to keep Renesmee close to the reservation, not once considering the risk to Charlie’s safety or the physical pain Bella was going to be put through.
@@jessicadangerfield1539 true. even when she found out about the imprinting she didn't even care that she was going to separate her kid with their imprint. she only cared about herself. in my opinion.
@@roselyngomez3271 perhaps… her thoughts on the matter of separating Renesmee from her imprint are definitely not conveyed clearly (the books gave more insight into it). Jacob’s selfish intentions and careless disregard for both Charlie & Bella’s well-being, his complete & wilful ignorance on the matter however, are clearly conveyed both in the book and onscreen.
Honestly, in a lot of ways I was like Bella when I was a teen. I was clumsy, always tripping over my own two feet, I was an introvert and never really comfortable expressing my emotions. I was always ready to face off against people bigger than me if it meant protecting those I cared about. I also call my dad by his first name. The only major difference is that I didn't have a vampire and werewolf fighting over me. But I did have that feeling of not belonging 🤷
You just described the majority of introverted people. Many people are introverted, have trouble communicating and would fight for their loved ones. Not you or bella are that special
My thing with Bella 1. I wish she didn't rush to get married and become a vampire.. Who cares if Edward is 17 forever? She should have waited a few more years. 2. I wish she wasn't so dependent on Edward. She's completely submissive to him. 3. I wish she'd given Jacob a chance. There were many times both Edward and Jacob himself tried to get her to chose or leave Jacob alone and it seemed hard for her so I wish she would've tried it out to see where it could have gone.
So much of Bella can be attributed to having been parentified. She’s spent her childhood raising herself, running her mother’s household, juggling the fallout of her parents’ messy divorce… resulting in low self esteem and unpracticed at processing her own emotions as they’ve been low on the priority list for most of her childhood which is exactly when she should be learning healthy ways to prioritise process her emotions and her own well being.
@@jessicadangerfield1539 well sure but I don’t see what that has to do with my points lol.. I think Bella was just young, impulsive and a bit of a hopeless romantic with lots of insecurities. There’s many different ways to interpret the books in my opinion because so many things happened that weren’t really explained properly :)
I don't hate Charlie, he clearly loves bella veey much but he also leaves bella to do the laundry and cooking etc and doesn't actually spend much time with her. He's kind with her when she has nightmares but also a bit more f a coward in some ways i feel as when he gets intimidated by emotion he avoids it. But the thing i hold least respect towards Charlie for is how disrespectful and crass he is towards bella when she is upset after jake forces himself on her even when she hssya broken hand he laughs and jokes with jake when she's clearly distressed. Also he is disrespectful of bella's independence and choice often treating her like a child when in reality often she's the one taking care of him and being responsible. I very much disagree with him pushing Jacob on her when she is clearly desperately in love and in a committed relationship with edward. That being said i also don't hold everything against her dad as a lot of his issues with edward are due to him having to be kept in the dark therefore to him it would seem like since edward was in her life she'd disappeared twice withy barely any explanation and been verging on catatonic after edward left. If course if he knew why edward left he'd most likely respect edward. If he knew all, he would most likely love Edward. But he can't know or his life would be at risk.... So edward takes the abuse like a champ. Poor Edward😔
P. S just as a side note i don't agree with edwards choice to leave bella in new moon but i understand it and don't really blame him. I also understand why bella forgives him. It was wrong for him to override what she wanted but it was done out of love and fear and desperation to protect her as well as his own self loathing as well as being basically a 17 year old teenager in his first ever relationship with feelings and emotions he'd never experienced. Pretty overwhelming. So i think i can cut him some slack
Bella abandon her human life and family to live with a vampire she has loved for a short time. When i was young, it is beautiful and i admit to be obssesed by E/B. But when I grew up, i think both Bella and Edward are super awful and irresponsible when they just focus on their love and ignore their family 🙂. I hate Bella so much because Stephein is so bias and give her everything (Renessmee). Rosalie, Alice, Esme and other vampire women are so poor when living the same world with Bella 🙂
@@baohannguyen7448 Of course Stephenie is going to give Bella everything: Bella is her self-insert and reading Twilight is like reading her private diary.
"Bella can't even stroll down her own patio without slipping on ice." Who the hell hasn't slipped on ice? When we had a snow day at school and we had to wait outside for fifteen to twenty minutes to be let in, literally everybody was slipping on ice so much that we had to enter through the back of the school.
Hey 17 year olds can sometimes make important decisions. Unless you've found your soulmate you can't understand the fact that a person knows from the beginning. So, wanting to be with Edward for forever as a vampire. You can't see how her clumsiness was gone after she was turned? She didn't toy with Jacob. She told him flat out, at the movie, that she would ALWAYS love Edward and she knew she was being selfish by wanting him around all the time. How do you expect her to tell her Daddy she's a vampire WITHOUT making him a Target for the Volturi? I disagree with pretty much everything on this list. Sorry. Just Sayin'!
Bella gets turned into a vampire regardless I rather be a vampire then die. How is being clumsy making her the worst it's not her fault. When she jumps off a cliff and gets hurt on a motorcycle she's not doing it on purpose it's called depression and if she has got a illness you shouldn't joke about that. but we all got to remember it's just a movie but let's just leave at you like twilight or you don't and I love the twilight.

Yes, a video topic I can REALLY get behind! 🖐️Kristen Stewart might be a talented actress, but even SHE couldn't make Bella any less whiny. Bella constantly mopes about after Edward leaves her, treats her friends and parents badly, and strings along Jacob, yet nearly every guy who meets her is crazy about her?! 🙄
Bella's character is made that way cuz she just fall prey to Edward and lost all her sensibility for her obsession. And come on people, she's just a fiction.
We are debating because people are starting to normalize this kind of behavior and say stalking and watching people sleep is cool let's be realistic when we were kids we were obsessed with twilight but as we grow we see the complete nonsense we thought was cool and cute don't get me wrong I love twilight and I love the books but we can't approve when we see bella Edward and Jacobs actions normal
Yes, she's a normal teenager. That's why she's acting immature. But why most people don't like, or at least I don't like Twilight, is how they're sugarcoating an abusive relationship. They married and had a kid so fast that in reality wouldn't last for another couple years. In the story, Bella has no purpose other than being with her hot man. From what I read, I don't think they're in love. It's just an obsession. She has no ambition, aspirations or even hobbies. This book is nothing but a wet dream for lonely teenagers that never teach them the reality of a relationship.
But she is fake there is fictional characters that are amazing like aang, toph, zuko, suki, katara, and, soka and others like emma ,ray, and Norman etc. From other moives/shows
could you do a top ten reason why Leah Clarewater is the most sympathetic character. i have to say out of all the characters in twilight she went through the most mentally. she'd also my favorite character. along with Demetri and Marcus. and a top ten volturi background video would be so cool to:). .
Bella never really had friends to begin with. She was the "new girl" upon moving to Forks and furthermore, never interacted with any other classmates in much depth besides the Cullens and Jacob, soooooo yeah I'm still not a fan of her.
I was watching new moon yesterday with my mom. When Bella was going through her depression and she was having nightmares; she said "okay this bitch is doing too much!"
Honestly, I disagree wholeheartedly with the entirety of this video. I watched to see a different point of view, but this was exactly that. So, there. Spoiler: none of this is throwing an attack so I'd appreciate if no one threw any towards me cause it will be ignored. You're taking random pieces of the movies and planting them for your own uses without proper context. Bella may be clumsy. She may seem dark and against her own humanity half the time. Hell, she may not be the strongest fighter in the world. That does not make her the most awful character cause she's a TEENAGER. Everything she's done is the most teenage shit ever. But she grows in more ways than one. Like the idea that she treats her parents like crap?! Hooooowwww?! she protected charlie (who was fine with her calling him that because of the condition of their relationship) from the vampire world to keep him alive! She cared more about everyone else's humanity than her own, and that says something. If my boyfriend/girlfriend/partner left me, I'd be a shell too. It doesnt matter how short or long the relationship was, it hurt and she cared for him. You want to make a character seem awful to get the attention of every person who hated the idea of the movies in the first place, pick one with actual evidence of being a dickhead and stop tossing around bullshit reasons like it's a salad. Like Jacob. Who really was manipulative and jealous and inconsiderate. Who focused more on his own feelings than anybody else's. The guy did everything he did for the hope that she would just choose him, and not just because it needed to be done. He threatened to go out and get killed when he found out she was engaged for fucks sake!
Agreed... I would like to add something else. She was heartbreaking because she love all the Cullens. And she planned to be part of their family. Yeah, she lost love of her life, but she also lost the way of living, she chosed. That is like losing your family. Everybody would be shattered and everybody Is different and dealing with things differently.
THIS COMMENT IS EVERYTHING! Thank you for that! And after just reading Midnight Sun, my opinion of Bella is only better. People are way to fucking harsh on her for no reason.
Her ambition was to become a vampire For that she left behind everyone her family her friends and her human life To an unimaginable painful way to become vampire She used jake his team and put Cullen's in multiple dangerous fight to save her She should've transferred to another place when she realized vampires wander around in fork
Okay I agree with most of these but I just need to speak my mind on a few things, first of all, how does being clumsy make someone a bad character? And second of all, I get she literally has no goals or ambitions but y’all need to remember this is a ROMANCE series, it’s not about ambition, it’s about the romance. There’s also saga stuff I need to point out, her not telling Charlie/being rude to her parents is for their own protection, sometimes she needed to be rude for the plot (like in the first Twilight when she has to lie to get James away from him) and if any mortal knew about the vampire world they would be killed (as highlighted by the Volturi in New Moon) so in a way that doesn’t make her selfish, it just means she cares, and finally her making life altering decisions as a teenager, that’s when most people go through that phase and they make all their life altering decisions or are still thinking about them, you can’t shame the girl just for being a teenager.
What makes Bella a bad character is that she is a Mary Sue, she is shallow, selfish, manipulative, whiny, pretentious, entitled, lazy, spoiled and self-absorbed, who thinks that she is better than anyone else, mistakes obsessive lust for true love, tries to kill herself to hallucinate her ex, teaches women that they are nothing without a boyfriend and treats her family and friends like crap.
I feel so bad for the Poor actress who had to play Bela... Like the actress is an AWESOME person, but her character in this movie, such a douchebag....
What makes me angry is that I actually go out of my way to be nice to people and make people happy and I was bullied until high school. Bella treats her friends like crap and ignores them and they cling to her like she’s their queen bee.
You forgot that Bella didnt tell Charlie everything to protect him...Bella knew that if the volturi knew that Charlie knew about the vampires the volturi would kill Charlie
@@christina9111 no it’s not. this person in the original comment is right. and stop trying to cancel a fictional character, that’s pretty fucking pathetic
Bella didn’t go catatonic. Bella had developed clinical depression, and was suicidal. You’re right, I wished that would have been addressed as a character problem to grow from rather than the boyfriend coming back into the picture.
She really didn’t though. It was Jacob’s own doing with the encouragement of their fathers and the prelude to his imprinting on her daughter that led to Bella trying to see Jacob the way he insisted she did. Plus, Bella was parentified meaning she’ll do whatever it takes to please and protect those she cares about because they’re her priority, and has a very little self worth or self esteem. Bella set out clear boundaries with Jacob, but he kept nagging and manipulating and assaulting her until she gave him what he wanted so that he didn’t go and purposely get himself killed.
Whenever I see her father Charlie it makes me feel sad. His daughter decided to leave because of a vampire. He continued being alone. 😭
Damn I love her father. Seeing his daughter changed from human to vampire probably hurts him a lot.
She actually sees him more then most would at that age. whereas many of the people she went to school with would of probably gone away to college and stuff she is still living in Forks at the end of breaking dawn where her Dad can visit her. Not defending Bella but two of your points; being clumsy and having a mental illness, shouldn't be used as insults or make her "the worst"...
Kerrie ikr maybe they couldn’t come up with anything else
True, but still she becomes practically an empty shell just because a boy who she hasn't even known for a year leaves her.

I was about to say exactly like what you said, what the hell she only used Jacob as her satisfaction in her lonely times
She’s definitely a user and Jacob deserved better.
exactly! it was so sad and annoying. she's a heartless idiot who only used jacob to fill a void even though she was going to immediately ditch him for Edward anyway.
I lost interest when i watched eclipse and when she admitted that she loves jacob too but she loves edward more. Like WTF??
I never understood why her friends didn’t ditch her. She ditched them so many times and yet they always wanted to hang out with her..
well she is a nice and trustworthy friend

In midnight sun it is mentioned 😒
HAHAHA
I've read each book over 4 times as well as the detailed guide stephenie meyer wrote. I have thought hard on my opinions and listened and taken into account other people's. I've learnt and realised things that i hadn't before but from your comment alone and the suggestion that bella is vain that you say the podcast suggests (which in my opinion is ludicrous) i think you and i will have to agree to disagree. I really hope you have followed your own advice and read the books and considered different view points before making your judgement otherwise i would have to consider your view void.

Twilight- Went to a vampire alone, who was planning to torture her to death, just to save her mother.

She’s very selfish and I find her kind of manipulative. Very arrogant and cocky and wouldn’t mind being a bully after she became a vampire.

I can relate to Bella’s pull towards Edward. There was someone I thought was extremely handsome and the most awesome guy in the world and he was my world.

I think the reason why she’s socially awkward is due to her low self esteem
Yeah but the story should have addressed it if that's the case
The books are better at addressing this issue than the movies ever were. Between the low self esteem, absent father, and neglectful mother (resulting in her practically raising herself and being her parents caregiver) of course she’s going to be socially awkward and out of step with typical teens etc.. This was such a crucial part of her character and the movies completely failed to address it properly.
I could go on about how parentified she was, the consequences of it (low self esteem, socially awkward etc.) and how the movies failed to show any insight into it, but I get the feeling you’re someone who understands it.
Bella in book was better. But bella in the movie was boring. No emotions.
I agree with you lol. Some people say that kristen was perfect for her and that the bella from movie is the same as the bella from the book...nahhhhhhhhhh
@@pxnd18 Bella was rebellious and passionate in the book. I was not surprised K steward likes girls because she had no chemistry with either guys. She delivered the lines but gave no emotion lol.
She was a miserable bitch in the books too. Lies to her mother that she wants to go to Forks even when she doesn't yet acts like she's being dragged there against her will regardless, cries about of all things the position of the clouds in the sky, acts like one of her teachers is a monster for asking her to introduce herself to the class, arrogantly says she's already studied the subjects in the classes that she's in and goes on as if she's better than everyone else. She isn't.
OMG someone finally realized that she has no emotions at all in the franchise
No, actually in many ways she was worse in the books.
2020 is like when Bella kept looking out the windows for months.
Well I still love the books and the movies. I’m so in love with my husband of 16 years married and 23 together , that I completely understand Edward’s view of not “living in a world were you don’t exist”! It seems out of style for people to like the series anymore, but if you were real fans then, you would not stop being fans just because someone says it’s not cool to claim to like it anymore!! Just my opinion.
Bray Brannan-Saine 100% agree
Bray Brannan-Saine yes god!❤️
Absolutely agree!!!
Those are occupations lol not the same thing
I was thinking the same thing. Life altering decisions is exactly what teens do at that age. Hey, let’s get married. Hey, let’s have a baby. Hey, let’s join the so and so group. Teens making crazy decisions is not at all unrealistic.
True. I personally feel like she needed more adult guidance in her life.
I agree, also Bella in books is like 99% of the time is described as an adult and that she "never was a teenanger" etc. Of course she's not mature all of the time, but like rEaD tHE boOkS
Choosing to die and be immortal is alot more permanent than those
She always seemed sad in the best moments like what
I'm re-reading the books, and I actually really like Bella. The books are written in her perspective, and you read the events through her thoughts. I kind of relate to her 'socially distanced type' character.
I like Bella, too. She is too down on herself just like a lot of teen girls are.

Being clumsy isn’t a sin
She can’t make a huge amount of decisions because the people she’s dealing with are immortal and strong. No decision really matters then.

To me bella was always a monster because of the way she treated her father and neglected her friends!
Yes
Absolutely, Bella is seriously damaged and "why" is never explained.
She clearly states in the movie that she didn't want to be " older " than Edward.
Jacob is such a good friend to keep up with he bulls***t i could not and she keep on playing with his feels and she know she will never leave Edward of jacob
Same buddy, I felt same
There’s so many reasons why she sucks.
How true!
Julie McIntyre thank you for feeling my pain

Book Bella is a bit different than her movie counterpart.
The books are better than her movies. (I hate Bella either way. Fanfiction Bella is WAY better than either.)

I'm clumsy too. Does this make me the worst? No.
If she told her parents about her being a vampire the Volturi would kill them. Or she would have to turn them too.
Janell Draper that’s what they said, yet Bella knew all the Cullens were vampires and the Volturi didn’t do a damn thing
None of them got me REALLY UPSET enough to hate her but avoiding her human friends got me pretty pissed 😤
she couldn't tell her parent's about the vampire world or they would be killed she used a loophole just to stay close to her dad. just thought I'd point tht out lol
My thing with Bella
Charlie Swan is my favourite human ever!

It's not clumsy that we make fun of, but the dumbest thing like purposely putting herself in danger all for the sake of getting close to Edward.
I think her clumsiness is partially a function of being not engaged in the world around her
Bella is a Mary Sue, a perfect character who lacks any discernible flaws. Clumsy is not a personality trait.

Bella's character is made that way cuz she just fall prey to Edward and lost all her sensibility for her obsession. And come on people, she's just a fiction.
exactly my point she s just a fiction n thing else
A fiction....with behaviours that can easily happen in real life, like abusive relationships.
Her being fictional doesn't justify the character's actions or mean people can't criticise her.
What ur calling the “worst” is the average teenager minus the vampire and werewolf part
That's your idea of the average teenager? Where are you from?😬💀
True so fucking true omg
Yes, she's a normal teenager. That's why she's acting immature. But why most people don't like, or at least I don't like Twilight, is how they're sugarcoating an abusive relationship. They married and had a kid so fast that in reality wouldn't last for another couple years. In the story, Bella has no purpose other than being with her hot man. From what I read, I don't think they're in love. It's just an obsession. She has no ambition, aspirations or even hobbies. This book is nothing but a wet dream for lonely teenagers that never teach them the reality of a relationship.

grace sherlock Yeah, her situation was the WORST. And the story ends with questions about her future as a female wolf.
Thank you!!!! I think this sums up most of my thoughts on this.

Agreed... I would like to add something else. She was heartbreaking because she love all the Cullens. And she planned to be part of their family. Everybody would be shattered and everybody Is different and dealing with things differently.

Her ambition was to become a vampire
For that she left behind everyone her family her friends and her human life
To an unimaginable painful way to become vampire
She used jake his team and put Cullen's in multiple dangerous fight to save her
She should've transferred to another place when she realized vampires wander around in fork
That so true I agree 💯 team Bella 😻😻😻😻😻👍👍
I didn't know what I wanted to do in life when I was seventeen.
also to point out in the book Charlie was the one who said he only wants to hear what he needs to know
What makes Bella a bad character is that she is a Mary Sue, she is shallow, selfish, manipulative, whiny, pretentious, entitled, lazy, spoiled and self-absorbed, who thinks that she is better than anyone else, mistakes obsessive lust for true love, tries to kill herself to hallucinate her ex, teaches women that they are nothing without a boyfriend and treats her family and friends like crap.

Bella didn’t go catatonic. Bella had developed clinical depression, and was suicidal. You’re right, I wished that would have been addressed as a character problem to grow from rather than the boyfriend coming back into the picture.
I love twilight but Belle played with both Edward and Jacobs emotions too much like she went back and forth between the two of them
She really didn’t though.
Bella runs away from home to PROTECT Charlie. And doesn’t tell him about her becoming a vampire to again PROTECT him.
