I was born in 1961. I was raised on a farm with many generations in the same household. We only had 103 acres, but we had a gravel pit, sand bank, hard woods, pine woods, crop land, pastures, and the barnyard, farmyard, gardens and the outbuildings to make it all work, including the 3 seater outhouse. Many of the things that Joel teaches & uses on his farm is how we lived & I was taught but my Grandpa. Grandma taught me how to garden, cook, bake, and preserve all types of foods. Grandpa also taught me about the animals too. I wish all children could spend the first 18 years of their lives on a farm. The world would be in a better place & the people would be healthier, more knowledgeable, and more compassionate. And everyone would know where Good Food comes from & how to feed their own families.
Always enjoy listening to Joel Salatin. Each time, I learn something new and helpful! God created a beautiful world, and we are stewards of it, no matter what you believe. I appreciate Joel giving us practical advice and encouragement about redeeming the environment and making it beneficial for all creatures, and fruitful for humans. I also appreciate hearing and the affirming truth about how government has negatively impacted us, but we (in unity) can be good stewards of how God designed it for more satisfying, joyful experiences and better health! Joel's joy for regenerative farming is infectious and helps motivate me to keep going and growing. :)
Joel has a life time of hard work and knowledge. I am thrilled that he is very willing to show us the way to making our farm productive, healthy and GREEN! Cows, grass, chickens, pigs and all the rest working together to make it all work! I'm just starting this journey at 69, but this lifestyle is what I want to leave to my children, grandchildren and even great grand children. I don't have my acres, yet, but I know I will. My future farm will be called 4-Gen's Farms, because my dream is for my farm is to be able to support my family "for or four generations". Every day I work on get closer to the end goal and I'm sure I will reach the point of having that farm. You are never too old to learn or to dream. God bless you'll and keep growing! Oh, by the way, our fourth generation should be showing up on May 7, 2023!!!
Beautiful statement~ I especially like the part about you are never too old to dream! Thank you for leaving that wonderful comment. Congratulations on your farm Nancy!!! 😀🌻
I wish you all the power in making your dream come to fruition. I am in the process of doing something very similar for my children and hopefully their children. A May baby will be a child of the earth, a Taurus, they will want their hands in the dirt. Trust me, my birthday is May 7th.
Well a lot of people didn't. That's why it's made. Regulations are often written in blood. People used to put arsenic in pickles to make them more green and put plaster of Paris in bread.
@@thatonedog819 They didn't do it often. The bread guilts wouldn't put up with it. They had rules and regulations that bakers followed or were put out of business. The only times they tried things like that was in the winter when they couldn't get yeast from the brewer in the cold winter months. I don't remember plaster of paris being mentioned. And most made their own pickles.
Words can't describe what Joel does for my hope for this world and what I am seeking. A mission that is bigger than my lifetime. The key to all of this is happiness and freedom. Freedom from the mainstream by utilizing labor and responsibility for our land. This is all part of a human revolution. I am starting to understand my why. Thank you Joel. You are one of my heros! Nam Myoho Renge Kyo 🙏
Joe, when you spoke of being burdened by the lies that farmers are responsible for feeding the world and for fertilizing their fields and keeping up production, I thought back to the Hebrews who came to Egypt wealthy and how Pharaoh burdened them with taxes to enslave them. Then God saved Moses and raised him right under Pharaoh’s nose to set those very people free, I see you as being sent with a mission for our freedom. Praise the Lord and thank you for being obedient to him!
The number of people that Joel has inspired to live a life of THEIR choosing is astounding. I learn something every time I hear him speak. Enjoyed this video so much!
Love Joel's passion and confidence about what he does! So glad he is igniting people's interest in farming and hopefully bringing them back to the land to care for and be a part of it again.
I was thinking how Savory and Salatin have helped my outlook and respect for God's creation and how we can mimic what God shows us! Thanks to the Creator for our earth and how amazingly we are made and rue the systems that force burdens on the farmer, that disrespect his calling and poison the minds, the air, the rain and the soil we need. At 70 I am implimenting the mission on my citystead of 1/2 acre and doing it with a grin and "respondibility" thx to Joel and Allan!
Good video. I loved both of these guys. This real farming movement is critical to our environment and our families. I live in southern Arizona where not much wants to grow without gallons of water and tons of inputs. This is not natural for our ecosystem. I have gotten my lawn to grow with wood chips and a weed eater. I never have to water despite the drought. Start your permaculture career by our purchasing a weed eater.
We have been a follower of Joel for a while now. He has inspired us in so many levels. We bought 60 acres for building our Homestead. We are in central, Logan County. What area in Ar. you are in? Trying to hookup with liked minded folk close to us. We will be in Camden TN for SELF RELIANCE Festival and for Joel chicken butchery class. Thank you for all you do.
Love to learn from Joel! Thanks for putting this video out there. Working towards converting to completely regenerative practices and he is a wealth of knowledge. People should have the freedoms to choose what they want to feed their family and buy off the farm without all of the red tape and regulations! We are supposed to be the land of the free!
Love hearing from Joel. On the gut biome stuff etc. , I have a few observations, thoughts. So, I was a dairy farm kid and we didn't have terrible hygiene yet we definitely weren't necessarily avoiding ever coming into the house beyond the entryway with our barn pants on, and later when our farm got harder, busier, with boots on too. Etc. . But I had basically no immune system, in one Dr.s opinion, as I really struggled with my health as a preteen/my whole life. I was the only one of us 8 kids that I know of who'd had an ear infection as a toddler ( which we hear of as basically standard in the US among kids today). Maybe the antibiotics for that really screwed me up, and we didn't usually consume plain yogurt back then, or raw sour kraut etc. . I was also exposed to plenty of harsher cleaning chemicals both helping with housework and in the milk- house ( place where the big milk tank on farms is and where the milking machines etc. when u don't have the kind that stay in a parlor, get hung up and washed, washing buckets, pails and calf bottles there too). I didn't usually drink out of cow tanks - ours weren't emptied and moved often like yours, so, were typically coated in algae and gunk... . I/we licked salt blocks in the hay bunks regularly though :) . Had plenty of exposure to soil and everything. Gardened and picked wild apples, drank raw milk although I quit by age 8 because I didn't like it. Bought flavored ( they're SO high in sugar) yogurts though which I loved and sometimes made our own. We ate healthier than most of my peers there in the 80s, we rarely had pop or junk food, cool aid etc., cold cereals. My mom was one of the only farm wives who was part of the fledgling natural foods co-op and we only ate brown rice and usually whole grain bread, but of course there was plenty wrong with the breads and with the hot cereals like cream of wheat esp. ( without eating more fiber and protein with it, for breakfast b4 school ). For me too, I was sensitive and my Dad was quite hot tempered and touchy, so, lots of very high stress at times, didn't help me health either. But to me, while obviously there's a lot of truth to what you're saying about living an outside, nature-immersed life that's good for ones gut, otherwise that study between farm & city kids wouldn't have found what it did, unless in Norway, was it ?, the farm kids eat way healthier than the city kids do and than the American farm kids nowadays do. But my opinion I'm getting to is that diet and probably vaccinations ( the damage the ingredients in them do, at least, if not the very way they work vrs. nature's way) play a HUGE part, too. That exposure to soil and even probiotics is only a small part, esp. if you're eating a very acidic diet ( high percentage of refined sugars and etc. & cooked, very cooked, highly processed foods) and a lack of it being nutrient-dense enough to be able to have those minerals in abundance to be taken to balance your gut or blood pH, without causing malnutrition issues elsewhere. Probably still causes a lot of damage in the meanwhile, when one's gut gets too acidic, in killing off the good bacteria and the bad ones, fungi too etc., taking over. Just from the what I've picked up over all these years. Plus use of chlorine, harsh cleaning products, even in the dishwasher. Also a main difference in city vrs. farm kids is what's in their water. Farm kids may get too much lead or farm chemicals in theirs, but usually not chlorine and some other junk in city water.... . If they even drink water. Farm kids work up more of an appetite for water, besides theirs usually tasting better, so even the ones allowed to reach for soda's to quench thirst, probably drink more plain water on average. Plus exercise is good for overall health, and bowel movements, so, may impact the microbiome just from moving more on average. I'd be very interested in knowing more of all these types of details of the lives of each kid in the study, and the state of their individual guts.
The nutritional density of farm produced vs industrial tells us 2 things: 1) Average Americans are forced to consume more to get the same benefit, but then get loaded up on the unfavorable nutrients and calories along the way- contributing to obesity, and nutrient deficiencies. 2) And that what industrial AG puts into the soil/plant/livestock translates into the food and thus reflects on the health of the end consumer.
Anyone can make change happen!!! Building great soil health and being proactive in good land management can be done no matter how small your yard is. Don’t use chemicals, integrate perennials, let clippings lay or start a small compost bin including your food scraps. Plant a fruit tree or more, plant fruiting perennials or a couple complimentary vegetable plants and keep trying new things. Try to grow things that you can eat, don’t worry about the perfect manicured lawn. Perennial flowers on your building edges. No more need for a weed wacker. I did “no mow May” last year. I didn’t mow lawn till first or second week in June. Surprising on what grew, over two gallons of morel mushrooms among other cool things!!!
What a refreshing and inspiring message. I hope this movement becomes stronger and stronger. I'm curious is there is a solution for the Dutch farmers, or what your educated opinion is, from an experienced cow farming perspective.
Hey I have some training in anthropology and archaeology as well as plant ecology (novice). Human impact leads to diversity of environments, the Amazon jungle is the best example I can think of. Estimates are 25min lion people lived there before colonization and it is one of the most diverse ecosystem. If humans don’t interfere often the 1 best tree, best plants and very few animals are what thrive in an area. We can actually be great catalysts for bio diversity.
I have found that once you clean up your diet, you can't eat what they sell from the grocery store anymore. At least I can't. I can't eat eggs from chickens that are fed a lot of grain. They make me sick. Same for meats.
I raise birds haven't bought an egg in years last week I ran across eggs for 99. Fox I bought 1 just because. Ugh omg I had horrible stomach issues n burped sulfur? My in law is allergic to eggs but she had eggs from my yard n no reaction. Hummmm
Talking about freedom of choice of what to eat. I believe that God gave you and I free will, and the right to choose. We are just afraid of the consequences of going ahead and DO what we believe to be right. Don’t ask for permission.
To the regulation question. Instead of licensing and regulating you had to get insurance. Could you make the case to an insurance company that your food is safe for people to eat and that they'll pay damages to anyone your products hurt? I think it would be better all round. The insurance has a direct financial incentive to keep you safe while understanding you still have to work in order to pay your premium. It would incentivize safety to be more efficient.
Joel- I always enjoy your interviews. This one is not an exception, but I would love to hear your thoughts on individual rights, natural law, and victimless crime. It sounds like you aren't for defunding the police and I'm curious as to why because you seem very aware on the corruption within other areas of our lives. I am for law and order, but true law, not man's law. No more victimless crime prosecution and policing for profits which is what we have now. I am for a moral system. Maybe look into the freedom project 2020 or the thick red line.

1:16:57 now is not time to forgive. First, all the responsible need to be taken down and locked up for the rest of their lives. Then, I expect an apology from all who called me out for telling the truth. When (if ever) all of that is said and done, I will consider forgiving the fools who fell for the propaganda. Anyone else who just played along to get along should pay for their ignorance.
Line drying clothes must be a cultural thing. In Australia it's normal to line dry the washing all year around, in Winter we have Airers for indoor drying near your heating. Using a dryer is for emergencies only.
I am very grateful to Joel and you for all this wonderful information on how to care for the earth we have been given to steward and care for. However, both the view of current farming, dominating the earth, and Joel's "nature" description is not a Christian understanding of our role as stewards of the garden. It is deeply pagan and is a stumbling block to the faithful. "Nature" is both benevolent and malevolent depending on what angelic or demonic principality is given reign at the time, because remember, the world as well as us are in a fallen state. As much as we serve God and act as Christ has called us to, God gives, however, as we abandon the path we are to follow God takes away as a warning and as a call to repentance and correction. "Mother earth" is pagan and demonic. We must be ever vigilant to call this out as followers of Christ or misfortune will come whether we care for the earth properly or not. I hope this finds all of you well. God bless all of you.
I imagine we will see with the new One World Religion the globalists are pushing, a convergence between the catholic mother mary and the mother earth conecept.

@@lynnchaney5258 that's part of it. Another part is throwing out anything that "looks ugly" instead of selling it. Part of it is people letting it rot in the fridge. Part of it is the food deserts in poorer neighborhoods who don't have access to all this fresh food. All that could be going to other people.
One more thought. What is a license? Why is it necessary? It is permission to do that which is otherwise illegal. Why is growing mushrooms and selling them illegal???

I have had problems with eggs for many years and we are going back to raising chickens again. The garden is getting huge😊
Eggs from my neighbor taste amazing and don't bother my stomach at all. Used to have to quarantine myself after 3-4 eggs 😂
@@garrettpatten6312 I can't eat eggs that are fed commercial feed. They won't stay down.
I raise birds haven't bought an egg in years last week I ran across eggs for 99. Fox I bought 1 just because. Ugh omg I had horrible stomach issues n burped sulfur? My in law is allergic to eggs but she had eggs from my yard n no reaction. Hummmm
I love this guy! He is like a Doug Casey or Rick Rule of ecology
Talking about freedom of choice of what to eat. I believe that God gave you and I free will, and the right to choose. We are just afraid of the consequences of going ahead and DO what we believe to be right. Don’t ask for permission.
Did you say west ozzy, investigating regenerative agriculture. Oh yeah. ❤
Nice 👍
Joel- I always enjoy your interviews. This one is not an exception, but I would love to hear your thoughts on individual rights, natural law, and victimless crime. It sounds like you aren't for defunding the police and I'm curious as to why because you seem very aware on the corruption within other areas of our lives. I am for law and order, but true law, not man's law. No more victimless crime prosecution and policing for profits which is what we have now. I am for a moral system. Maybe look into the freedom project 2020 or the thick red line.
Law and order only exists by your permit. My question is. Where does YOUR LAW. Take effect??..
@@nocount4339 I'm not sure what you're trying to ask?
As a leukemia patient, I’ve been told to live close to a sterile lifestyle my first year after a bone marrow transplant. Anyone have experience on the next best steps to improve my immune system?
I love you Joel ! LoL let's roll up our sleeves

The correlation between seed and veg oils, the use of round up ready crops and fast food additives and the loss of human health is shown by Chris Knobbe low carb down under
And DrZach Bush in an AfterSkool documentary. Very interesting....😮❤😂🎉

1:04:29 just with a few people unfortunately. Most still have no clue that the entire world is upside down, almost nothing is as we’ve “learned”.
American here - Being lazy is our cultural thing 😂

The US Pharmaceutical industry doesn't want people eating truly healthy. That's not good for their business model.

You serious? Cause that sounds quite appealing.
@@danielhoward7310 offer still stands, we have a spare cabin for two. 30 ish sheep who need, well sheep things and long sunny days, and nights, yes the nights are sunny now...
Just maintain the origin ( in labels) and whoever wants to really be regulated can announce it in the label.
Interestingly there was a big commercial fertilizer advertisement in a portion of this video. ( I’m sure not authorized by creator or Joel)
Creators have no idea or control what type or how many advertisers are put on their videos. Nor can they file appeals to remove /reduce them. That's one bad thing about being on RUclips.
The topic of "what if those 20h/w of videogame" hit deep cause i always prefered to watch some diy, some carpentry or farming. Videogames grew ever more boring as i became an adult but i still dont have the capital for the diy stuff
We are making enough food to feed the world. The issue is resource distribution.
Are we importing most the food we eat?
@@lynnchaney5258 that's part of it. Another part is throwing out anything that "looks ugly" instead of selling it. Part of it is people letting it rot in the fridge. Part of it is the food deserts in poorer neighborhoods who don't have access to all this fresh food. All that could be going to other people.
One more thought. What is a license? Why is it necessary? It is permission to do that which is otherwise illegal. Why is growing mushrooms and selling them illegal???
Can just imagine what Joe would say about the bloody toxic hand sanitisers so many are still using.
Teddy Roosevelt and JFK each sponsored an event in which everyone walked 51 miles over 3 days.

Could you do a show on how cow farts and belches , which are temp raising methane, are broken by hydroxalines into CO2 and water? . This does NOT occur in concentration camp feedlot style meat and dairy. 50x the Hydroxalines needed to prevent methane come from a pasture. Those eeveal cows and steers ! Green piece of shi.❤😂🎉

The government definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Un yum.
I love Joel so very much, but his libertarian nonsense is a little flawed. Capitalism is the problem, and the government is under the control of all the worst capitalist. Get money out of politics and you can start there. Beyond that, i have learned so so much from this national treasure. Joel thanks!
Regulation prevents true free market capitalism

Joel believes that farms can be weaponized in the West Bank. That's not Libertarian. Simmer down Joel.
The bottom line here is - that "farming:" (regardless of what the "more-sustainable" eco-green -"gimmick method" is:)
Is: a non-sustainable method of predominatly-mono-cropping on large swaths of repurposed (for "making money" for money-empowered-overlords) of the land (which in its self) for rhe nature of predominantly free-of-charge provisions-sysrems of "nature" - "is an un-sustainable (human-over-infestation-of-nature-"type"-human practice-all-for-the-money)

Without money generating personalities.
And without money empowered hierarchies.
Because those types of people end up leading us into a life of purchasable addictions.
And I - for one - in a village population would rather be a slave to my stomach and nurturing nature for my provision and my fellow local population - more predominantly than my money empowered overlords who we could then keep "more on the outside" of our borders.
