@@finally7664 The first time I saw an SR-71 Blackbird I went up to it and hugged and kissed the left main landing gear. I sat in a P-51, B-17, B-24 and a Super Connie. I have stick time in a AH-1 Cobra. I miss it. But they were good times. 33 jumps. 82nd ABN DIVISION 1/17th Air Cav.

Seeing that A-4 Skyhawk go by reminded me of an airshow where our squadron and sister sqdn had an A-4 / A-7 air race. Our A-4 and their A-7. Both stripped down for speed. A-7 took the straight aways but A-4 took the turns. Our A-4 took the race. After the race the A-4 had ripples in the wings between rivets in the sheet metal. The pilot had taken an excess of about 8 Gs on the turns. The bird was retired after that and used for fire fighting training.

So these guys are zipping by a little over the speed of sound (767mph)- The SPACE SHUTTLE enters the earth's atmosphere at around 15,000 mph- I busted out my calculator and 15,000 mph converts to a little over 3.80 miles per SECOND- almost 4. In one second!! It's difficult to even imagine that kind of speed- unbelievable

Yeah! The space shuttles final approach from like 30,000 to landing is like 3.5 minutes or less. Insane numbers. Completely controlled with air dynamics makes it even cooler.

And just think these pilots are the best in the world! And chasing an enemies fighter jet at those speeds. firing guns, missle's and dropping bombs on things the size no bigger than the rooftop of our houses, not to be caught, flying that fast, and that low
under, enemy radar systems, sams, RPG'S. We have the best fighter pilots, and today they stand ob the giants of WW2 They started dog fighting bringing it to this level. When WW2 pilots flew they were starting out at maybe 350mph to 450mph. God bless our U.S. Military. Air, land, and sea! 💯❣🙏🎖

Impressive though all of them may be, not all of the very swift moving jets here are supersonic. Not even all of those with the vapor cloud forming on them.
A great sign of a supersonic aircraft is if its silent until it has flown above and past you, and then you hear a bang.
If you can hear one while it is approaching you, it is not supersonic. It will be high subsonic or transonic if it has a vapor cone. And the greater the humidity, the more likely it is for vapor to appear.
