Just because a person is older, it doesn't mean they're dead. Iron Maiden proves age is just a number. They can out perform younger bands and blow them away.

Don't forget Biss, there's also the Rolling Stones playing in their 70's. You also have Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band playing for 3 to 4 hours and they're all in their 70's.

@@soupdragonuk same thing with Blue Oyster Cult. Eric Bloom is 74 and Buck Dharma is 72 and they are relentlessly on tour. I honestly don’t know how they do it.

@ The embarrasing thing is todays artists put on a 90 min to 2 hour show. The oldies do far longer Springsteen often passes the 3 1/2 hour mark and he's like 3 times some of their ages. Sure for alot he's only double but the fact he gives the fans what they want a long show. 90 minutes is taking the piss for a concert.

Hey Biss I hope you understand that you have just entered the god tier room. There is no turning back now. You are officially a metalhead. Bruce and the boys are legends.
You mention the fan base, Biss understand that they built everything without the internet, hell even MTV wasn't a thing till like 10 years into their career. How did they do it? You just saw it. They would always interact with people every show, not just Bruce but the entire group. They gave everything every night and we the fans were grateful for it.

You've gone down the Iron Maiden rabbit hole now Biss. I've been listening to Maiden since 1983. They have 17 studio albums. Bruce Dickinson, the singer, is one of the best in rock/metal. If you like story telling, awesome vocals, great drumming, and great guitarists you will love Iron Maiden. Up the Irons! Songs I'd recommend are:
Rime of the Ancient Mariner - From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage)
Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great)
Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through)
The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s)
Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading Anglo-Saxon soldiers)
Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII)
Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854, which took place during the Crimean War)
Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps
Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus)
To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert)
The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI)
That should give you plenty of material. Happy New Year Biss

"I don't want to call them old, but they are." And it's true if you look at it thru the lens of entertainers or athletes they are old. At this moment all six members are in their 60's and have been professional, touring musicians for decades but you'd never know by looking at them perform. First time I saw them live was 1985 and I've seen them 12 more times since then. Just to let you know, the Book of Souls Tour was right after singer Bruce Dickinson recovered from throat cancer so another testament to their physicality. They are the greatest live band of all-time. Don't care what anybody else says.

I just turned 52 and first saw these guys in concert for my 13th birthday. They play every single show to every single fan and that's why they're so beloved. I've seen them 15-16 times (with festivals I honestly can't remember) and they're excellent every time. It was about a decade back that Lady Gaga saw them in concert and said it was the best show she'd ever seen and taught her a lot about putting on live shows. There are several pics of her backstage with the guys here online and pretty funny.

Metal fans are, special, we listen to music that rarely if ever gets air, radio or TV coverage. Ours is the music that people go, "Oh I listen to anything but not the heavy screaming" or "I don't like that it's just screaming". When you listen to metal you enter a community, it can be weird, everyone has their favourites, but generally a metal fan supports another metal fan and all the bands, because metal is the music grafted out from the devoted fans. He's now 63. I saw them live a few times and they are awesome.

I have seen this band in the 80's, 90's, 2000's and 2010's - they are simply amazing and their fanbase is rabid in their loyalty. That is the legacy Maiden have created with their music - it is almost spiritual being part of a crowd that sings every word back at the band - for the whole show. 🤯

I grew up listening to Maiden when I was young, they've been around for over 40 years, and are basically "royalty" when it comes to Heavy Metal music, Bruce Dickinson (vocalist) is one of the best metal vocalist of all time, and yes they are old LOL 😄😄 They are all in their mid to late 60's now, but they still perform and sound amazing. Like Metallica, Iron Maiden are a live band. By that I mean the studio albums will always be good, but the live performances exceptional.
They developed in a time when radio wouldn't play metal and there wasn't yet mtv or certainly metal on mtv. They grew their fanbase through live shows and kids trading cassettes. This is why they say Iron Maiden concert has no audience, just 60,000 backing singers.
Hallowed be Thy Name is an awesome song to react to

So many songs to choose form.... where to begin???
I'll categorize the songs by the era of their lead vocalist, just to break down the list a little bit...
    -- Paul Di'Anno (1976-1981) --
    Phantom Of The Opera
Iron Maiden (yes, they have a song named after them, lol)
    Women In Uniform (cover song)
    Wrathchild
    Killers
    Twilight Zone
    Purgatory
    Prodigal Son (Lamia)
    Murders In The Rue Morgue
    -- Bruce Dickinson (1982-1993) --
    The Number Of The Beast
    Hallowed Be Thy Name
    The Prisoner
    Where Eagles Dare
    The Trooper
    Flight Of Icarus
    Aces High
    Powerslave
    Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
    Alexander The Great
    Caught Somewhere In Time
    Wasted Years
    Stranger In A Strange Land
    Heaven Can Wait
Seventh Son of A Seventh Son
    Can I Play With Madness
    Tailgunner
    Running Silent, Running Deep
    Mother Russia
    -- Blaze Bailey (1994-1999) --
Man On The Edge (Falling Down)
Sadly that is the limit of my extended knowledge of their songs, having only recently picked them up again after losing interest when Dickinson left the band. Had I known his departure was temporary I might have stayed on for the ride.
But the above list will definitely get you started on all their classic stuff, and other fans will be able to recommend the newer stuff from 1995 onward. :-)
    Enjoy!

Some good viewing fodder would be "Aces High" (any live version), "Wasted Years" (actual music video), and "Wrathchild" (any version). Wrathchild, in particular, would be interesting if you find an old enough version, as it was recorded with their original singer, Paul D'ianno.

Wasted years live in Monterrey Mexico (Flight 666 DVD)
Dance of Death Live in Dortmund (you're going to enjoy watching Bruce singing that song in a way that seems he's telling you a story and dancing and IDK the performing is really nice)
Rhime of The Ancient Mariner, one of my favorites and Bruce's favorites song, really long but again... another story told by this guy which puts a lot of theatrical performance into this song. It is based on an old poem. Flight 666 too, is more theatrical than Live after death video.

Bisscute see it this way: Iron Maiden are like The Rolling Stones of Heavy Metal. Black Sabbath are like The Beatles of Heavy Metal, and Judas Priest are like the Led Zeppelin of Heavy Metal. Iron Maiden are very influencial, their fan base are passionate, and extremely fanatist. My favorite era are the one with Bruce Dickinson, especially the albums from 1982 up to 1992, they released good albums after that.

Something you won't truly learn until many years have passed for yourself, but "old" is physical, not mental. They (and I would say most people our age) FEEL exactly the same as we did at your age. There are some aches and pains for sure, but in your head, nothing has changed. The way you feel right now is how you will feel when you are 90. I promise you, when they are on stage, they are still 20. It's not until afterwards, when they look in the mirror that they remember... For another song, try Aces High. One of my favorites.

So many people yet they know the song & are part of the show. You spoke of their energy level I can offer two theories for what they may be worth.... This is their job, plus there are certain chemical substances that increase your energy. Those can kill you. But you can run around like a much younger person. I do not recommend the use. I am impressed with how well the audience know this song. ENJOY and rock on girl.....

The reason for "Fear of the dark" it's because the main songwriter (bass player) is actually terrified of the dark, he really is.

Want to become a fan World tour this year " The legacy of the Beast" having the word legacy in it tells me it could be their last one, Bruce is 63 (still looking good) but his commercial pilot license has been retired ( if by him or others I do not know) so he can't fly their plane as he used to. As I say it's just a feeling.
