      Try Novation Bass Station 2, with the latest firmware you have oscillator drift for the 2 DCOs and a tuneable sub oscillator. GBP 250 on ebay. Good choice of filters, overdrive, distortion, filter mod 2 LFOs with delay and more.

    Yeah I guess it is more suitable than Moog especially if ya don't have one(a minimoog)there're alot things that are more suitable & less pricey.The same can be said about the Dom 1 and vice versa you of all people are aware that most synths from the 80's are more than adequately sufficient for bass. Kudos EK for posting this & for pointing it out that this synth is more than capable. Although it's among others, it can still certainly be appreciated for that purpose thanx dude 😎

    Glad I picked up one of these a few years ago after the Sonic State review. Multiple filter types, 3 envelopes, 3 LFOs, 3 ring mods (one analog), 3 VCOs, and a multi node filter.
    Tuning is a little obtuse, and the envelopes aren’t as snappy as I’d like, even with the response curves. But it sounds huge and can save presets. The ones that come with it are crap

    Hey Espen, great vid as always! Do you know is there a way to get the sequencer/arp to receive or send clock via midi without sending note data I can't seem to get mine to do that and I don't see where one would turn an omni mode on or off?

    • @EspenKraft
      @EspenKraft  Год назад

      Thanks! I only used it for a short time and my priority was to sample it. It has 4 different MIDI modes according to the manual. It would seem that it always send the notes out the MIDI port in arpeggiator mode. That is easily filtered though with a MIDI filtering device/box.

    • @AudioLomtik
      @AudioLomtik 2 года назад

      Somewhat, but I believe what Espen is saying (and I've read elsewhere), the envelopes are not super punchy and transient. For anyone that wants the real snap of a Pro One, including the low end beef it has, try the Toraiz AS-1, its my favorite bass synth, Dave Smith did a great job for Pioneer on that one.

    • @EspenKraft
      @EspenKraft  2 года назад +2

      It's why I always sample my bass sounds. That way I can get them as snappy as I want. ;-)

    • @AudioLomtik
      @AudioLomtik 2 года назад

      @@EspenKraft That will do it :). Though sometimes I want that punch while also being able to do subtle realtime modulation variations on the bass sound itself, really picking up the true analog character and range of the filter, something that gets lost in sampling.

    • @EspenKraft
      @EspenKraft  2 года назад +1

      Exactly what I want most of the time. I have no great love for analog synths all by themselves. Not in a production. They sound much better to me through a sampler. Mid- to late 80s pop music are 80% sampled or digital sounds anyways so to make it athentic synth sounds should be DX7 sounds or sampled analogs. Nuances will come from a tad LFO in the sampled sound.

    • @AudioLomtik
      @AudioLomtik 2 года назад +2

      @@EspenKraft Totally agree with all of the above... the impact of the DX7 and samplers on music of that era is undeniable. And, sometimes that's what I want. But even though a DX7 MKI was the first synth I ever got to spend significant amounts of time with, my interest in analog was born in the early 70's when I first started hearing early analogs and wondering how such amazing sounds were made. My favorite synth to date is my Prophet 10... which sounds amazing sampled... but so many creative juices start flowing when I just let the oscillators and filter live and breath and do what they will.
