Big up Ruby you're hitting all the right spots, Aladdin has nice food, all the roads in Addis are muddy like this, and you picked a great selection of honey yooo! Texture is everything!! 😁 stay blessed & trod safe!! Ps. "Farenji" also means "french" as it's how the countryside folk would refer to the French back in the times..nowadays it refers to all foreigners, but it is a bit small minded for ones to still be identifying ppl like that lol 😁🙌🙌
Haha In Amharic, the word "Ferenj" specifically refers to white people(not derogatory). It's used to describe individuals with white skin, rather than being a general term for all foreigners.
First ....Good to have you in Ethiopia... if you want to invite a person to join you what you are eating, you should say "enibla"....when you are invited to join them and you don't want to you should say " aseseginalehu ...yetebareke yihun" which means let what you are having be blessed. Finally, if you want to enjoy Ethiopian food in London, go to North London...Caledonian Road....
you have to learn Ge'ez alphabet in Ethiopia. it is believed to be one of languages of angels. I think you don't miss that you all originated from Africa (Ethiopia) ancestrally. so, appreciate all aspects and teach others about Ethiopia. 'ferenj' means 'French'; 'tesfaye' means 'my hope'
"Ferenj" is used to refer basically any white foreigner. It came from the word French. French were the first foreigners to work with Ethiopia they are the ones who built our first train & and people started pronouncing French wrong & that is how the word came to existence.
@Rubytwosteppin Yeah, but Ethiopians at that time are only familiar with French so any white person they see is a French for them & they just started mispronouncing French as "Ferenj". Fun fact my great grandfather name is Ferenj 😂 very unusual.
@@Rubytwosteppin its not just in ethiopia. the word ferenj predates the railway construction it was also used by arabs and persians (faranji (فرنجي)) which originally meant Frank and later to mean foreigner usually referring to Europeans.
Finger millet is widely produced in the cool high altitude areas in the region mainly as source of food and traditional alcoholic beverages. It is becoming popular with diabetic patients too.

The driver is right, in Addis Ababa we use landmarks, historical names, and noteworthy old areas and buildings as the names for locations. This makes it hard for someone who isn't a local to navigate alone using online maps so if you can I suggest you stay close to a local that helps you out with certain issues like these.

Our ancestors used the word “Fereng” for all foreigners with white skin… believed to originate from the word “French “ whenever they met those French people who built the Ethio-Djibouti railroad in the 18/ early nineteenth century (Hello I’m French) it’s not an insult nor a compliment just white ppl

Ethiopia got lot of history both Chrisitianity and Muslim wise. I can say 50% of Ethiopians 120 million people are muslims. Welcome to the land of Origin again and much love🇵🇦🇵🇦🇪🇹🇪🇹 Ferenj means white foreigner in Ethiopian language😊. Teff is found only in Ethiopia and Eritrea but after the studies (why Ethiopians are powerful runners) found out teff has increased in popularity as a gluten-free health food elsewhere like in Swizerland and is now called Super grain.😂
Cain Descendants sought to do all that was wicked on the land in the sight of the Lord, for they had been marked by him, for the descendants of cain had received unto themselves the Damnation which was the fair portion for cain sin. And God refused to be angered by cains WICKEDNESS for cain was not FORGIVEN. And The descendants of cain practice all manner of evil that Not shall be forgiven of men. Interesting - the French word for foreigner is ‘étranger’ so the English word ‘foreigner’ seems more similar
